Most Valuable Thing You've Ever Found

$100 bill, PX parking lot near military bank in Giessen, Germany, 1988.
$40 (2 - $20 bills) about 6:30 am one morning near a bar while walking to the bus stop last year.
$20 bill in a ditch down the street from our house last year.
$20 bill near the Virginia-Tennessee state line on Bristol Rd, Shawanee, TN about 3 years ago. Next day, I found a $5 bill in the same area. Both times while hiking to the beer store. Somebody probably had their window rolled down and the $ blew out.
Add:

$50 (2 - $20s, 1 - $10) this morning near the same bar, around the same time and on the same weekday as the $40 find above.

$20 bill on the grass in front of a Payless shoe store around 11:30 am this morning. The find happened during my weekly hike to the grocery store.

Add: $32 (1-$20, 1-$10, 2-$1) this morning. $12 near the usual bar where other finds have occurred. $20 in a semi-vacant lot. We experienced high winds yesterday and last night.

$300 (roughly) spread across a local street on July 27, 2019. Found the cash 60 yards from the site of an armed robbery that occurred 5 minutes previously in which a shot was fired. Shortly after discovery, I gave this money to an attending APD officer before showing him and business owner the recovery location. Additional details here.

$5 bill this morning in a parking lot.

I found two thirty dollars scratch offs on a walking trail. They had not been fully scratched. Top prize 250 K.

I scratched the remainder. Then put them in the trash.

Not sure if someone was being kind or just stupid? I am going with B.

I found a flipped Coors light truck. Beer everywhere. It was 5am and a 2 lane country road. Driver was ok and said we could have whatever wasn't on the truck. We picked up about 10 cases because that's all the car would hold. Took it to my friends barn and returned with a flatbed truck but the state police had arrived and ran us off. Greatest day ever for a Senior in High School.

Found 20 bucks in my dad’s wallet one day while I was cleaning the garage. Wasn’t sure who’s it was so I kept it.
The next day my dad was mad as heck, wanting to know if someone had been snooping through his wallet............well, all I knew was that I wasn’t snooping when I found it, I was cleaning the garage. Funny thing is, he remembered seeing my little sister playing close to where his wallet was and so he just assumed it had to be her. And all though she denied taking it, he beat the crap out of her for stealing his money and then lying about it on top of that.
He never found his $20 and to this day we never found out who stole his money.
Weird !

In high school, we were putting in a car stereo in my car. Out of nowhere, a bag of weed was laying on the passenger side floorboard. It was like the weed gods just put it there.

Have been lucky enough find some cash over the years but...on the end of my first day of grad school I found a half an eighth outside in small nugs. In my last year I had pulled close to three consecutive all nighters. On my last morning waking into studio at 5 am I found a full eighth of some funk. I’ll forever think it was god telling me to keep up the good work.

Found a $41.25 31-day Cap Metro bus pass with mucho time remaining. Calculated value to me = $23.95.

Life is good.

My daughter found another $20 tonight. This time at the Old St. Mary's fish fry at Bockfest. Seemed rather appropriate to donate this time to the parish.

One time when I was about 8 years old I was walking down an old dirt road and I found a wallet on the side of the road. It had $50 in it and no ID of any kind. I asked my pa what I should do and he said if nobody claimed it in a week then I could keep the money.

Well, a week went by and nobody claimed the wallet so I was good to go to keep the $50. Oh Boy! What a treat that was! Fifty whole dollars to an 8 year old! Might as well have been a million dollars.

But then a couple of days later my pa's coworker showed him a newspaper "lost and found" ad where someone had lost a wallet on the side of the very same dirt road and it had...you guessed it...it had $50 in it.

What to do? I mean pa said that if nobody claimed it in a week that the money was mine. Right? That's what he said...Right? Wrong! My mean ol' pa guilted me into giving the money back to the owner of that wallet. Rightful owner? I say no! Finders keepers and the one week rule should have ruled the day!

That sounds like an episode from The Andy Griffith.

I was bar tending while I was going to school at a small bar Some one left their pack of cigs on the counter when they left. I did not think anything about it, until someone sitting at the bar pointed them out to me. I picked up the pack, it was a box of Marlboro's, I flipped the top open to see if it was empty. All the cigs were gone except 2. The rest of the pack were 6 joints rolled up. I walked to the kitchen that was behind the bar and put the pack in my jacket. Enjoyed each one of those bad boys.

Found $275 in a club one night. I was at a table w/ some other people, sitting near the aisle. I saw a dude drop something on the floor and keep walking. I put my foot on it and slid it over to me. I waited a couple of minutes and picked it up. I looked around the place and could not spot the guy. The rest of the night, drinks were on me. Then we all went to Waffle House..

Probably a wallet full of cash and credit cards in a parking lot at the gym when I was a young man. I turned it in to the people that worked there. They probably pilfered the cash themselves. If I had it to do over, I would contact the owner directly. Naive, dumb youth.

This is gonna sound trite but the most valuable thing I ever found is a belief in God. It has allowed me to deal with many hard events in my life. It brings me the ability to find joy in the simplest things. Everything else is cake.

Whenever anybody talks about God I always think about this scene from Caddyshack. It's like a trigger... lol. And I believe in God. Ha.
