LSU jumps UK for No. 1 Recruiting Class in 2015

Fine with me if we wind up #2 or #3. Let other teams deal with the expectations.

What MGH said.

He's going to screw it up. I'll say one thing so. Simmons will be really good.

Is Martin the only player they're losing? If so, that could be a majorly-tough opponent next season. Of course, that's contingent on Johnnie Jones actually being able to coach that team and win with them, but they wont be devoid of talent or athleticism.

If Martin and Mickey had stayed they could have been the pre-season #1 or 2. With them gone they are probably a top 15 team.

But, you have to take about 15-20 spots off that because of the complete idiot they have for a coach. How he landed these guys is shocking to me.

Regardless of their recruiting class, I still fully expect LSU to lose 10-12 games next season and lose in the first weekend of the tournament. Jones is just an awful awful coach.

rabidcatfan I believe Jordon Mickey has also declared. Man just not fast enough to post it first.

They lost Mickey and Martin. Even with the great class, and it is great, they could be thin inside. Simmons is an inside out type player. Plus, as other have said, Jones is their coach. Its been a while since I've seen such a sorry display as I did in some LSU games last season. I welcome a more challenging and entertaining SEC.

I don't think Jones is as bad as people think. Is he Coach Cal, Coach K, etc etc absolutely freaking not. But he is relatively new to the college game. Don't count him out. Just my opinion.

I didn't think Kevin Ollie would be worth a damn at UConn, but he already has a title.

Relatively new? He's been a head coach every season since the 2001-02 season and has 16 years of experience as a D1 assistant. Pretty sure after over two decades in D1 that no longer can be called relatively new.

LSU will need talent. Jones has underachieved since he's been there.

He's 54 years old and has 1 NIT win and zero NCAA tournament wins on his resume. His best move would probably be to give the ball to Ben Simmons and get out of the way.

LSU also got a frontcourt transfer from Arizona. They will have plenty of talent next year.

It makes me scratch my head how he is suddenly doing so well recruiting there. They haven't had more than 1 5 star recruit commit in the past 15 years, and suddenly they have two this year along with a 4 star. Traditionally they almost never get a big time recruit outside of the state of LA and yet they have pulled in 2 5 star guys from Florida this year. Not saying anything fishy is going on, but it is kind of out of no where.

With Calhoun's players.

But I do not believe that they will be better with Simmons and Blakeney, than with Mickey and Martin. I would rather have kept the two departers, than have gotten the two recruits for one year.

Yea, the real Kevin Ollie was seen this year. I took a a look at their roster and I think this is the last year with any Calhoun players. Not being power 5 is gonna hurt them. People will definitely say wtf when seeing icons title count 20 years from now

I have read on many national media sources that Jones is regarded not only as a BAD coach but the utmost worst at developing talent. It seems that players regress once he starts coaching them. Something HAS to be going on!

Guess I meant relatively new to high level D1 basketball. The SEC is a big step up from what he is used too. Regardless, my point is that I am not really ready to mark him off as a failure quite yet. We'll see though. Maybe he will be.

Terrible coach. That damned Hornsby kid is a pretty good shooter.
Hornsby was killing us and IIRC he hardly touched the ball in the last 5 minutes. Ordinarily I'm not a big fan of being critical of coaches but that move stumped me. "Give the ball to the guy with the hot hand" is right up there with "Don't start a land war in Asia".

I think LSU is going to really disappoint next year....I just don't think everybody is going to get along. You have veterans in Gray, Quarterman, and Hornsby trying to mesh with and accept diminished roles because of the freshman. When you have someone as talented as Simmons everybody accepts him getting 33 minutes and a ton of usage. But when Blakely starts taking 15 shots a game I don't think Hornsby and Gray are going to be thrilled with him. Cal is a master at juggling ego's and players it's one of his greatest coaching talents. I expect LSU next year to be team turmoil.

This alone should have people questioning why or how is LSU and JJ all of a sudden pulling in some of THE best players in this class.

Might not be, but Simmons is better than either M&M. Interesting to see how Blakeney and the other SG from Louisiana perform.

Their point guard was only a freshman and he did pretty well. Tough kid, 37% from 3.

JJ will screw it up, no doubt.

According to 247Sports. Just landed a 4* shooting guard in Brandon Sampson. If UK can snag 1 or 2 of the remaining undecideds, they should regain the top spot. LSU should be a contender in the SEC this upcoming year. They still have Johnny Jones, but the talent should overcome the coaching deficiency.
Reading this post makes me feel like I'm slipping into the Twilight Zone.. Kudos to LSU I guess..

I think it will be a train wreck. No way Jones knows how to handle all those egos. It could be a disaster.

Is Jones himself a great recruiter, or is it someone on his staff pulling in these hosses?

The two big guys, Mickey and Martin is what made them go, they have other good players like Hornsby and Quarterman, but the bigs were what gave us fits, I'm glad they moved on because if those two had stayed, they had the potential to do some damage.
