Kansas loses to Iowa State by 17. UK still +7 in all-time wins, despite Kansas' second-tier conference.

If and when Kansas closes in on our all-time wins lead, it won't because of anything Mark Pope is doing wrong. It will be because the toughest games Kansas has remaining are road games against 3rd tier UCF and Baylor, and 2nd tier Houston.

Kansas' remaining schedule is stuffed with horrific teams like Colorado, Utah, and BYU.

They really dodged a bullet playing in a weak conference this year. In the SEC, I think Bill Self's squad would not finish in the top 7 in this league.

So called UK fans will be along shortly to tell everyone that this doesn't matter and they don't care. That's fun, isn't it?
So true. I never trusted any professing "UK fan" who didn't care about the all-time wins record. Yes, winning percentage matters, but so does all-time wins. Every record matters. It's why we want #9, partially because we want the national title record, too. Got to get #9 before we get #12 and eventually pass UCLA.

This is Kentucky. All of it matters.

Agreed!! We want all the records (Wins and Championships)

It was just brain dead Calipari apologism. So many supposed UK fans that couldn’t have an opinion on UK basketball until Cal gave it to them. Nauseating.

I'll bite. The all-time wins record is a nice bragging rights stat but it's not very meaningful in the list of bragging right stats.

If every blueblood team started the same year, it would be more meaningful compared to others. The win percentage stat, since it is easily comparable across all teams no matter when they started is the better stat along with championships to show who's-who.

Given that we started later than Kansas by several years it is impressive to be ahead of them. Interestingly, I see UNC didn't start playing until several years after Kentucky, and have played 3,242 games compared to UK's 3156. I'm not sure what would cause such a disparity in games played, I find it hard to believe they have close to 100 more games than us due to making it farther in the NCAAT/NIT. Granted I have no knowledge of how many games each conference played over the years.

Long gone are the days when the NCAA regulated how many games teams were allowed to play in a season. It would be interesting to see how many regular games UNC played per year on average.

I mean, to be fair, the Big 12 has been vastly superior to the SEC for a better part of the past two plus decades.

So I could easily say that UK was able to pad their overall wins lead against weaker SEC competition while KU had numerous ranked teams in the Big 12 to contend against.

The reason they are close is because of Cal sucking the last 5 years he was here. The SEC was weaker than the Big 12 most of that time too. It’s obviously gotten better and now is the best, but Pope is doing his job. Just gotta win what we can. Kansas will drop more games weak schedule or not. Road games are tough as we all know and they haven’t meshed well.

I just think winning % means more personally.

I'll never understand fans that are okay with UK losing a lead in anything.
Heck, that consecutive 3 pointer made streak was pretty awesome, until Cal peed all over that.
We have a ton of casual fans in this fanbase, they don’t pay attention until there's a big game, but then come in here and tell everyone how to fan.

Disagree.

Like Son of Saul said, it all matters.

UK has had the all-time wins record for as long as I can remember, give or take some years where we fell behind due to probation and Cal’s ineptitude. The NCAA has regulated how many games a program can play in a regular season for as long as I can remember, so it’s not like UNC or KU can play more games than us and pass us up that way, so it is now a legitimate measurement of greatness, IMHO. The only way KU or UNC can catch us is by having a better season or two than us and the only way they can play more games than us is by winning in the postseason. So, to me it’s important to maintain that lead, because we have it and losing it means KU or UNC have surged passed us again. I don’t want that to happen.

I don't care when we, or anyone else started plating games, having the most wins is certainly a big bragging right.
I'd rather have the most wins than not. You don't give any other fanbase an inch, because if you do, they will hammer that nail every day.
If you want to call yourself the bluest of the blue, you need to lead in every stat you can lead in.

Amen my brother
Heck I was PISSED when the our 3pt streak ended. And that’s relatively minor
I want all our records back..

I've never heard a single fan, from any sport, brag about percentage. Nobody cares about percentages unless you're talking about in-game stats.

It's about the amount of final 4's, not the percentage of the time you've gotten there.

It's about titles, not the percentage of the times you won a title reletive to your existence.

The NY Yankees don't brag about all time wins percentages, they brag about wins and championships.

Bragging about percentages is kind of weak. It's admitting you don't have the lead, so you have to fall back on a technicality.

No, it hasn't been vastly superior. Just overhyped. There were years that it had several good but not great teams and the SEC was more top heavy and a few weak teams at the bottom, but the Little12 was not vastly superior at all. Especially so for ku with the opponents having to play against the ku and the officials.
