The difference is Tubby seemed to understand that the program really belonged to the people of Kentucky and he was just its caretaker. Thus he didn't try to change the basic way it was run or alter any longstanding traditions (such as the Maui trips, the Indiana rivalry, the home and home series, his media obligations, etc.) to suit his personal tastes.
Whereas Cal acts like he owns the program. He sees it as the Calipari basketball program far more than the Kentucky program. What the alums, boosters, local media and fans think about how it should be run doesn't mean squat to him. The only thing that truly matters is what he wants.
And, thanks to that lifetime contract, he's kinda right. Mitch effectively surrendered ALL UK program control to him on that day.
