I’m pulling for the kid big time, but his body language on the court was very lackadaisical. Most of the time he would just jog down, not even looking for the ball.
He’s gonna have to fight like hell if he wants any minutes at all. BUT…it’s early. High school to the collegiate level is a major hurdle and most of these freshman just finished their high school state tournaments. Looking forward to the improvement.

Gonna be a tough road for him this year, given how good the other four guards look. Even if he performs well in practice the minutes just ain't gonna be available.

You know, at the time he committed to UK, it looked like Reeves was leaving ....thus freeing him up minutes. Wonder if he'd still make the UK choice if he knew then what he knows now.

My suggestion for Joey is to invest in a nice pair of tweezers, capable of extracting the many splinters he will incur while riding the pine this season.

He’s a player. Late late addition. Still feeling it out. Just overwhelmed right now.
Good guy for building a core group with Burks Reed Adou and Ugo maybe Bradshaw.

Add in Travis Perry then Jasper Johnson.

Joey will be good when he relaxes and matures. High bball iq. Shooter. Athlete at 6 5. Dad is a coach. Similar background as Reed.

Lol. He was specifically recruited so he could grow into a role as a 3-4 year player, then people read into his “body language” that he is “unhappy” about PT in a July exhibition.

People on this board were wringing their hands a month ago that Kentucky needed at least 11 scholarship players. Well, now that has happened, and somebody has to be number 11 on the depth chart. He’ll be fine and a contributor next year.

I mean what did he play 2 minutes over 3 games? And that was with some blowouts and then Canada comes in before him. I mean I wouldn't be thrilled either Burks is out there a bunch?

I mean Cal could have thrown the kid a bone.
Burks was out there because of lack of depth at the 5. It's a completely different scenario.

You're living in the past. "3-4 year" players at UK simply do not happen nowadays ...especially with these new ultra-lax transfer portal rules.

Expecting any scholarship player ...much less one not getting minutes ...to stay a full career in this era is a fool's presumption indeed.

Harts gonna use uk to get better then bolt.

It was pretty obvious from the interviews after he committed that it's very unlikely he ends his college career at Kentucky. That was my interpretation, anyway.

Putting in Canada over the kid was kinda lame. Tells me all I need to know about what Cal currently thinks about the kid.

Who was our last true scholarship dude that stayed 3-4 years? Lol

Nick Richards?

Seems like 2 years is around the max.

Yeah, Richards stayed 3. But even he might’ve left earlier if the transfer rules back then had been as relaxed and easy as they are now.

You’ve gotta go all the way back to Derek Willis to find anyone who stayed a full four year career.

Bingo

I don’t know if I can perceive anything from 2 minutes at rhe end of blowout that he’s dogging it

1. Hart is here to be a oractice player so we can scrimmage He’s not gong to play any real minutes barring injuries….and even then I bet we’d run Thiero at shooting guard over him
2. Hart is likely to be a third year shooter specialist at best for Ky….and you need those guys to play roles to win championship

I tend to doubt he’ll stick it out at Ky for three years before he gets minutes….but I’m glad to see Cal at least trying out this approach. It worked well wjth Hawkins and Willis

With those minutes it sure seems like a guy we got for insurance but turned out to not need. Multi-year players don't seem to be a thing anymore. We'll see

What is Brennan Canada's role here long term? I'd venture to guess absolutely nothing since he's a senior.

It has to be hard going from an Indiana All-Star to 12th man. Obviously he can play. The few time he did get in for two minutes here, two minutes there, it just looked like he would’ve rather stayed on the bench.

Hart did not play much. When he played, he was beaten on the defensive end. What we used to call matador defense. The speed of the college game is a problem for him at this stage. If he sticks around, he would probably be a 4 year player for us. Does not mean he cannot contribute at some stage, but he does not have the athletic gifts of the other freshmen based on what I am seeing. In this age of college basketball, the ability to hit standing jump shots is not enough because there is too much defense and you are never wide open.

Good post. I recall him explicitly talking about the youth of the other guards on the roster and not having to compete against older transfers.

I’ll admit to being surprised how little he played and how disengaged he was out there in those very limited minutes. It’s gotta be discouraging to realize you won’t play all year in July. Hopefully he takes the mindset that getting some practice time against this competition will help him develop into a role player one day at a place like UK or a potential player at a smaller school.

On a positive note he seems very laid back and low maintenance in terms of personality. You can’t have your end of bench guys being a distraction and it feels like he won’t be.

Don't believe there is any way that Bradshaw would come back.

Canada is a pure walk-on …who gets a scholarship when we have unused ones. He’s never been a real recruit

Bust my ass even harder when I got back to Lexington.

If only it were that easy. Kid has no affiliation to UK. Didn't grow up here, didn't grow up a UK fan. He'll leave like any other kid not getting clock in the portal era. Especially when one of the kids that came in before him was a glorified walk-on.

I wouldn’t read into B. Canada entering before him too much. To my knowledge, Canada hadn’t been in at all the previous 3 games.

I hope he doesn't, but I was just giving a scenario as to why people were asking why the kid looked checked out. Either way, Hopefully Cal at least gives the kid a chance.

Doesn’t have the athletic gifts of other players shows how much you know about him.

He has one of the highest verticals on the team and at 6’5, shot 40% from 3 his senior season. Has a high release point and uses his vertical to get his shot off quite well.

He will adjust, play here and there this season and I think he contributes next year.

He looks like a 18 year old freshman who just graduated 2 months ago.
