Joey Hart

On a bigger scale, out of 10 guys who recorded minutes, Rob D. played the 8th most. While this is different than Hart, Rob D. has one option and that is to get back to Lexington and work on his game. I guarantee he did not think Reed would outplay him in Canada. He played 17 minutes per game on average, so he was still able to get in there and try to iron out his kinks. Hart, not so much.
Obviously we’ve only practiced a dozen times and played 4 exhibitions, so there is plenty of time for improvement from every single player.

This is not the first time Reed has outplayed him. They’ve gone head to head before and he knows Reed can play.

Joey Hart has as much upside as any of the UK freshmen. Some podcasts on other UK BB sites indicated that the biggest surprise from practice was the athleticisim exhibited by Joey Hart, Specifically he has the highest vertical jump on the team. Edwards tried to dunk on him twice during a practice scrimmage and twice Joey blocked it. I also watched several entire Linton, Ind high school games in which he played some highly ranked Indiana teams with some all star players. In those games he was very much a team player, sharing the ball until late in the game with the score tied. He would then take over the game, leaving the defensive player's feet nailed to the floor and skying for a two hand dunk. He also hit a contested last second three by faking a player out of his jock and skying above another defender to sinkj the shot and win the game. He reminds me of Jeff Shepard as a freshmen and sophmore. Joey is one backcourt injury away from playing significant minutes this year. It should also be noted that he was a late signee and has only been with this team for a couple of weeks. He has four months of weigh training and practice against one of . best backcourts in college bb before the season starts. I expect to see a much more confident and assertive Joey by November. He is a great young man and basketball player. He will be a starter on next year's team.

Do what?

Burks is 6’9 and played the 4 a bunch because we were short Mandes in the post.

Mandes? I didn't know he was enrolled.

If you were recruited on scholarship and then saw Brennan Canada come in before you, what would you do?
I'd probably realize that Cal was showing some loyalty to a player who's been around the program for a while. It gives Brennan a story to tell his grandkids: Yeah, your ol' grandpa actually played against the country of Canada...beat 'em for gold in an international tournament...

Pay the kid $100,000 to stick around, and give him a 20% raise for every additional year he stays. He need some hard-nosed guys who know how the system works. "Run" and "go" can be offensive schemes that take some time to figure out.
Schools aren’t allowed to pay players.

Players are allowed to sell their Name, Image and Likeness to businesses or groups for advertising or fund raising.

You could easily pay the $100k to him and it’s perfectly legal.

So pony up!!

I.e....he was your typical freshman lol. Hes what you expect from a true freshman 3 weeks into his college summer career. There SHOULD be a night and day difference between OAD first round Wagner and 4 year Hart. Nothing wrong with that.

I find it odd that people still believe they can foresee the future. 18 year old kids still have rapidly developing bodies and minds. In past middles-of-July we hadn't yet even seen a lot of our incoming players in action. Adou Thiero, for example. Remember how people confidently described his development? How many times do we blunder in our "omniscience" before we show some restraint and just enjoy the play.

When Hart signed here, lots of us watched his highlight footage on Youtube. We saw a very good shooter with a head's up all-around game. I agreed with much of Catzman's post until he came to the "4 year Hart" business. Who knows? Nobody.

We were trying to win a gold medal, and the games were fairly competitive.
What was the excuse the first time we played Canada and were leading by 20 most of the game? Plus in the gold metal game Dilly did not look very good but kept getting minutes and Reed who had been one of our best players of the tournament played the least mins in the gold metal game outside of Joey heart. The first time he came in there was 2 minutes left in a quarter the second time he came in there was 2 minutes left in a quarter.

I think you just want to complain if you’re really worried about the minutes from the 10th man. Enjoy the gold medal. I’m sure there will be plenty to complain about in November.

Be a fool to not think players get paid like that.. I'm not allowed to grow pot but yet i do.. Im sure players get paid to commit to schools also..

He’s a player. Late late addition. Still feeling it out. Just overwhelmed right now.
Good guy for building a core group with Burks Reed Adou and Ugo maybe Bradshaw.

Add in Travis Perry then Jasper Johnson.

Joey will be good when he relaxes and matures. High bball iq. Shooter. Athlete at 6 5. Dad is a coach. Similar background as Reed.
I would be absolutely shocked if Bradshaw was here next season. I have a better chance of hitting the Powerball jackpot.

I mean what did he play 2 minutes over 3 games? And that was with some blowouts and then Canada comes in before him. I mean I wouldn't be thrilled either Burks is out there a bunch?

I mean Cal could have thrown the kid a bone.
I’m sure he must be the furthest behind of the kids who will play and Canada has put a lot of time in practice. Only so many minutes. I hope he stays and doesn’t get discouraged. He’s the kind of dude we can build around for the future.

I think it's a bit weird to assume 18 year old kids have things called "handlers".
Considering any player worth a damn has a team and has had one for decades now it’s not. There are always a few outliers like Thiero who were primarily built alongside family but any kid with draft stock has someone from AAU at the very least calling shots with them most likely.

Bingo

I don’t know if I can perceive anything from 2 minutes at rhe end of blowout that he’s dogging it

1. Hart is here to be a oractice player so we can scrimmage He’s not gong to play any real minutes barring injuries….and even then I bet we’d run Thiero at shooting guard over him
2. Hart is likely to be a third year shooter specialist at best for Ky….and you need those guys to play roles to win championship

I tend to doubt he’ll stick it out at Ky for three years before he gets minutes….but I’m glad to see Cal at least trying out this approach. It worked well wjth Hawkins and Willis
If we have to put Thiero at shooting guard, we are in big trouble- he just cannot shoot

Putting in Canada over the kid was kinda lame. Tells me all I need to know about what Cal currently thinks about the kid.
IMO…Cal was feeling tremendous pressure to add some players and reached out to Hart who he normally would not have anything to do with. Now that he thinks he has some depth, I don’t see Hart getting any minutes.

He’s a 3-star recruit that’s somewhere between 30-50 at his position nationally. He’d have to be the least self-aware teenage boy on the planet (as a parent of a 17 yr old both, that’s quite the feet) if he expected to come in and get minutes immediately.

I'm not sure I understand this logic. So Hart should get clock over a guy who has stuck it out for free and busted his ass off? Hart gets a free education and the best coaching money can buy for free. Canada gets to pay to get his ass kicked in practice every day and doesn't bolt for a scholarship to a lower level school.

Yeah Hart is better than Canada so he should play more it is that simple. You act like Canada doesn't gey anything from being on the team by glossing over the fact he gets to suit up for the most storied program in college basketball. He obviously is good with that trade off. I also thought Hart should have gotten some run but I am not surprised Cal didn't play him all that much. I don't see Hart sticking around because he looks to be a kid who wants to play and has confidence in his ability. We will see how it all plays out.
