Jaden McDaniels announcement date

Hurt's been a known prospect in this class for years....McDaniels shot from low 90's/outside the top 100 last Spring/Summer. Hurt is an excellent offensive player who can shoot the ball. McDaniels has the ability to shoot, but he's not proven it as long. I like McDaniels for Kentucky more then Hurt--even though Hurt would've been a great offensive weapon for Cal--he doesn't have any defensive ability. McDaniels at least has potential to defend--Hurt on perimeter would be Wiltjer like--and both are very thin so against college experience in paint, will be rough go on glass. Can't speak for McDaniels here-but I've seen Hurt since he was a FR-he doesn't rebound well against peers.

He wouldn't have played much here then. Another shooter for duke that can't play a lick of D. Good then! :)

Okay, would someone explain to me what it means that we would only be playing one big if he signs and comes here and is in a "small lineup"? 6'10" is a big in my book!

"McDaniels is seemingly a perfect fit for the kind of small-ball lineups John Calipari wants to use going forward. The 6-10 freakish athlete plays more like a wing, but with his size and athleticism, he could absolutely play the 4, especially when Kentucky wants to go small and have only one true big at the 5 spot."

Evan Daniels on Tom Leach show right now. He said he would be shocked if not UK. And probably will announce this week. Actually thought it could have happened this past weekend.
Good. May 15 just a blink away.

Eww, didn't know daniels was a UL fan
From Louisville, graduated from Western Kentucky. Found this interview with Brett Dawson:

"Daniels loved to play basketball, but with multiple future Division I players on the squad at Male High School in Louisville, Ky., he understood his opportunities were limited. His freshman season was his last, but he stayed connected to prep hoops, attending high school and AAU games, at first for fun....

I met Dave Telep when I was 17 and wouldn't let him get rid of me all through college. He was with Scout then, and he's with the Spurs now. I would show up at events and sleep on his hotel room floor. That's how I got into it, and he took me under his wing and mentored me. I basically interned with him all through college.

My junior and senior years, I worked for Darrin Horn in Western Kentucky's basketball office. By that point, I knew that I wanted to be involved in basketball in some capacity, and every step of the way I was trying to learn how to be a better.

When you evaluate players, there's a starting point, and for me it's their physical gifts. I was at the Thunder-Hornets game, and everybody on the floor looked the part. Everybody fit this physical makeup. That's why size for position and length and athletic ability all factor so much...

Nobody knew who Anthony Davis was after his junior year of high school, but I got a call on him in March. I went to see him in May and June and said, ‘Man, this kid is really talented, but he's so soft.' The first week in July, I go see him in the morning session at Peach Jam. I left the game and Dave and I had lunch, and I said, ‘That's the best player in the country.' Dave goes and sees him at night, and at dinner he says, ‘We don't even have to discuss this anymore. He's No. 1.' We were ahead on doing that by maybe a month.

It's an inexact science. Do for however many hits I have, I have my fair share of misses too. Skal Labissiere is one. Truth is, I think he's going to end up being better than people are giving him credit for. I still think he's got an opportunity to start in the NBA for some time, but ranking him above Ben Simmons doesn't look good...."

So, is McDaniels going to be the final piece to the 19-20 roster or no?

I really can't imagine Blackshear coming. That's an awful lot of size on our roster to contend with: Sestina, McDaniels, EJ, Richards, Brooks. Some of those guys can play the 3, but that will be tough with the amount of guards we have coming in.

Blackshear probably goes to a place where he has a bit clearer role and not a lot in his way.

I totally get where you’re coming from....but we don’t have a consistent post scorer on the roster and Blackshear would start over Richards, Sestina, and Montgomery and I think he knows that. Our wings are where we have a glut of talent. Somebody from the Brooks, McDaniels, Whitney, Allen group isn’t going to get enough minutes. Blackshear starts at the 5 if he comes here and Richards and Sestina possibly fall out of the rotation.

Don't think we can rule out one of the two bigs deciding to transfer and a space for Blackshear "magically" opening up.

Fingers crossed!
With the guards and wings we have for this next season I just can't see Cal willing to risk an amazing season rolling with EJ AND Richards as his horses on the block. Especially with a player like Blackshear hanging out there for the taking(if he doesn't go pro). Pieces to the puzzle are too perfect for Cal not to do what it takes. Opportunities to line up a balanced, talented, experienced roster like this could be are hard to come by, doubly so with the short time players stay anymore.

I agree totally.
