I think the UofL/UNC situations will force the NCAA to vacate titles.

I know most think the NCAA would never do this, particularly to their darling UNC.

But I believe the NCAA will put their own survival ahead of any favoritism towards any school.

The severity of the Louisville and UNC offenses is historic.

The NCAA faces a complete rebellion from member schools if penalties aren't massive.

I have heard that Syracuse is prepared to launch a huge lawsuit against the NCAA if UNC isn't hammered hard.

And don't think other schools like USC, Penn State, and SMU won't join in.

This is a crossroads moment for the NCAA. This is about self preservation. They will burn UofL and UNC to the ground to survive.

nice post. a lot of us had the same notion some five years ago, i used the same argument. they definitely don't want to do it. but we'll see.

Back in the 80's, when Berst and company imposed the death penalty on SMU and considered it for UK, the NCAA had considerable influence and they imposed strict penalties selectively in efforts to establish their regulatory authority more than to objectively punish violations. This is no longer the case. Conference consolidation and other factors have reduced the NCAA to just one of many entities competing for sports marketing dollars. They are a shell of their former selves and their hypocrisy has mostly been exposed.

I don't think UL will have to vacate anything. Lack of institutional control seems to fit however.
