I am super optimistic

It's just a number and means nothing. Accept it.
I do accept it. It was simply when I dug into it a few years ago the top 5 players stood out from most, those are usually the cream of the crop, and Cal had been having great success with em. Again, it has to be 5 because that’s a good smooth cutoff and 4 doesn’t work. How is that hard to understand? I know you get it. I feel like you’re just trolling the shit out of me. I’m impressed.
The number means nothing. The players inside of the number mean everything.

Deal?

Exactly.

Five is not the magic cutoff.

Except it has been. John Calipari has not made the Final Four in the one and done era without a composite top 5 recruit. He’s done it without a composite top 4. See why it’s important? I know you get it. I have faith you get it.

Ya'll crazy. Just won't give it a rest. LOL!

You have to have a number, I get it, have at it.

There's just nothing magical about the number five, though.

Nobody’s ever said there’s anything magical about it. That would be silly. Numbers can’t be magical.

Thought the magic # was 8....Laughs

It’s not just what you would do, it’s what they ALL do. I don’t know why people are acting as if this is not common knowledge. The top 5 kids in each class is reserved for the best of the best. After that the next 10-20 recruits are essentially just thrown into the wash.

I understand a guy like Fox can be considered of that tier in hindsight. That’s far from the point. And I believe Fox’s composite ranking was 6th, 1 spot outside of this category.

It’s not about the number. It’s just that the transcendent talent usually falls around that tier.

Now after 10 years we have Cal with 4 final fours and not ONE of those final four teams didn’t have a composite top 5 recruit. Lol. They simply don’t want to let this go. They’re arguing about Cals coaching ability, we’re arguing something totally different.

A few have always wanted to believe that freshman can dominate and Cal can dominate with them. They’re subconsciously arguing a point none are making.

Goodness.
You know, I think you and @Col. Angus are correct when you say the people battling you on this are more defending Cal than anything, but we are clearly not knocking on Cal. It's just a fact that Cal has not been to a FF when he doesn't have at least one top 5 guy.

That doesn't mean Cal sucks, hell, there is no coach that could do what Cal does. He at least gets them on the doorstep more times than not. What he does is incredible, but getting a freshmen oriented team to a FF without a top 5 talent is ridiculously hard.

UK 2017 should have been there, anyone using Fox is using a bad example. That team was thin in the front court, they had national championship ingredients, but they got derailed by one chicken shit referee.

I think even the biggest Cal/UK hater would agree with that after watching that game.

Agree 100%. There are years where a guy ranked in the teens ends up being better than anybody ranked in the top 5. There are years when there are 2 guys that are locked in at 1 and 2, and the rest of the class there is a big drop off, but what the hell, they have to number a guy in the 3,4,5 and so on, when in reality you could throw a blanket over 3 thru 10-12. It all really boils down to 1. How strong the class is overall, and 2. what a teams need is and if they are able to land one of the elite guys at that position of need. Like last year for example, we where good at the guard spot, whe needed a elite big man. Even if the guy was the number 10 ranked prospect, it COULD have pushed UK over the mountain. Some years it is the opposite, how many years where we good every where except the wing position and did not land a guy that fit that need?
Montgomery was ranked #10

Welp now you’re sucked in. Welcome. Buckle up tight.

The premise is fine. I know Cal needs the best players for his system to work.

I just can't agree that the number five is the special cutoff every year.

I would like to see us get at least one of Green, Clarke, Boston, and Christopher.

Got to get at least one, hoping for two. Three is not out of the question.

We would be stupid good with all four plus Todd. Run with those five and play small ball and try to outscore everyone by 20. LOL!

I’m still wondering how you have that “full life” you brag about when you spend 12 hours a day here 365 days a year. [roll]

Pulled 5 hours at work Friday, made 3 grand on two sales, pulled out my phone and said hello rafters!
