MLB Ump fired for Betting Account

I watched Donaghy steal a series from Phoenix and the Spurs won the title because of it. The NBA blessed it so I am a little doubtful to the league not knowing. I haven't watched the NBA since.

And when I saw that happen, I posted how weird it was. I was assured that I didn't know what I was talking about and referees are above reproach.

I promise you John Higgins was paid for the North Carolina game.

Nothing can top the 2002 Lakers / Kings series. The refs didn't even try to hide and the announcers were just laughing about it. I can still remember the look on Divac's face like he couldn't believe what was happening.

That was a hard lesson for me that shattered my belief in the "fairness" of sports. All the talking heads said people were crazy. Years later Donaghy rolled and admitted the front office fixed the whole thing.

Hopefully this whole anti corruption thing catches on and sports gets cleaned up.

I remember when he later fessed up about him fixing games, but don't recall him saying the front office was in on it? Link?

It was in his book so there is no link. He also didn't outright say the office did it or he would have been sued. Instead he talked about who the league office called in to do games when they wanted a certain outcome. Mainly Bavetta and Foster.

Donaghy wasn't even in game 6. He was just the whistleblower for the scandal. Stern and company then sabotaged the FBI investigation and made him the sole scapegoat. That is when he started to name names.

Interesting. Didn't know he wrote a book. I will have to check that out

In related news, I read the other day that the bookie for Ohtani's interpreter estimated that half of all pro athletes are betting on games. If that really is the case, and the public starts to lose interest, those players will see that they have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

In the documentary (and early on), he said the league used company men (one of them was Dick Bavetta who would hire a woman from the airport to record him and note how many times he was even tied and time frame), and it was encouraged to get the series to seven games.

He offered to wear a wire and the feds inexplicably told the NBA instead and wouldn’t you know it? The NBA investigated themselves and found he’s the only one. What crazy luck😂

In Donaghy’s book, he mentioned how one game, he and his two officials had a bet going on in the game where whoever was the first to blow the whistle for a foul or jump ball or something, had to tip the ball boy which was responsible for setting up the ref’s room with food, drinks, etc.

He said they let those guys kill each other for the first four or so minutes before someone finally blowing a whistle.

They also targeted AI as retaliation for him talking crap to one of their buddy refs. He also mentioned how refs would ask players to sign stuff for them.

I know basketball has probably been the dirtiest in all of sports. I think football isn’t far behind.
