HUGE recruiting news coming..?

What about the Euro kid who is supposed to go top 5 in the draft next year? Luka Donicic. Fran does know the Euro players. Now I have no idea if he is eligible or not but could he come over for a year and play college ball?
He plays meaningful minutes for a top team in Europe and is getting paid to do it. Makes no sense for him to play college ball.

Why do you think that's what it was? Also, I think that guy is Australian.

Do you know what Fran does? He covers all euro guys, that's it...to think he had some scoop on 5 star US recruit doing something over pretty much everyone else out there is crazy.

@Wildcat-in-STL WHat recruits are Nike? ALl I ever seem to hear is "Well damn, he's an Adidas kid".. Where have we benefited from being a Nike school. And more importantly, how the hell is Adidas even a player in this game. Nike/Jordan or soccer shoes?

Barrett is a Nike kid...... and his top 3 are UK, Duke and Oregon.... ..

Reddish is a Nike kid........and his top 2 are Duke and UK

K Johnson is a Nike kid

Shittu was on the Nike circuit this past summer

Bol Bol is a Nike kid but unfortunately getting cut soured him on us.

We struggled with Adidas guys for so long but then again it turned around when we got 2 last year and we're pretty much a lock for Quickley.... so maybe someone on our staff developed a great relationship with someone from Adidas or maybe their handlers have both adidas and nike ties or maybe those were just 3 guys who didnt get in deep with the shoe company enough to feel loyal..... who knows.

What you are saying kind of fits in the timeline. I think that story broke about 2 hours after Fran tweeted.

But I was thinking maybe Fran was at some event with coaches. He doesn't seem like Dallas, TX material.

It all depends on the player. I doubt AAU teams/coaches have much effect on certain guys. They have a circle of family, friends, HS coaches, etc., that are the main factors in their recruitment. Other guys probably are hugely influenced by the AAU people around them.

There's no real pattern. When a kid like Kevon Looney ends up at UCLA out of Milwaukee, that seems like a case where a shoe company had some pull (but who knows? maybe he just wanted to spend a year in LA). However, you also see UK pull Bam away from NC State, Kansas getting Kelly Oubre and Cliff Alexander off Nike AAU teams, and so on.

Only on Rupps Rafters would an obscure and possibly baiting tweet by a jerk like Fran Fraschilla generate four pages of speculation, the sum of which would leave readers knowing less than they did before the initial tweet.

I guess that's a good thing. Maybe.
Spot on. Goodness the speculation and analysis.

Assuming he's a fairly legit prospect, going to Virginia is fine with me. Louisville, UNC and Duke will have to deal with him.. Sky's not falling here.

You do know that Adidas gave an AAU team to Zion's father right? That they have sunk a lot of money into that AAU team ........ Do you really think that Zion and his father wont feel the need to be loyal? Lets put it this way... if I gave you that type of money.... I'd expect you to jump when I ask it ...and if not ... there would be hell to pay.

Our only shot.......is if we can somehow convince Adidas we'd help his brand and make sure he signs with Adidas when he leaves here............ and in turn.... we'd have to suffer some wrath from Nike who wouldnt like it at all

Wall signed with Adidas when he left.

Wall signed with Adidas when he left.

Exactly my point earlier... At the end of the day it's about the $$$$..

Lets say you have a top 10 recruit. Plays high school and AAU circuit with Adidas. Gets gear, shoes, bags, invites to elite games with travel, meets top CEO's and marketing individuals during that time. Then decides to even go to an Adidas school or not. When that player gets drafted that's when he gets paid. Adidas comes to him and says we have known you for awhile, great relationship, and now we are willing to pay you 18mil for a 4 year contract. Nike has the same kid fly out to Oregon and offers 26Mil for a 4 year contract... What do you think most people would do? This can also happen with a NIKE kid. I know the AAU is tainted with Shoe deals , I get that. At the end of the day it's still about the $$$.

Different kids have different loyalties.

Usually the kid isn't loyal, it's their handlers.

Adidas does a great job of getting money in the pockets of loyal handlers and they usually deliver.

Adidas also has less schools to spread around.

Nike does it a little different way and isn't as proactive.

I'd still rather be Nike if I was a bluebood like UK and Duke.

Since it's Fraschilla and he's openly biased about his favorites:

1. Under Armour
2. Big XII
3. International Basketball

I'll say his news falls under that umbrella. A school is leaving their contract to join UA, UA is about to get some top AAU programs, a recruit is going to one of his Big XII schools, or an International Star is about to come overseas.

Cal did not cut him. The decision to keep or cut a kid was by committe. Various college coaches did the choosing. For example Arizona's Miller voted to cut Bol Bol and he is recruiting him very hard.

While true... there has to be a reason we went from perceived favorite to no buzz at all and many saying we wont get him now ....which started after he got cut... I mean something changed... either butt hurt feelings or Cal decided Bol wasnt the right fit.....

Well if Mr. Washington can run Findlay with UNLV boosters paying his salary and saying no to them to send his son to UK.... I suppose Mr. Willamson could do the same for his player/son in Zion. But do you really trust KU and Adidas?

From KSR today:

Matt Jones "Ryan, if Shittu plays for UK, will you dare do pre and post game shows?"

Ryan Lemond "Agree 110%, Matt"

Sad that coaches have to resort to footwear made half way around the world to bolster their recruiting.

"hey we suck in the tournament and our players are all criminals and we'll nuke your draft day chances, but check out these sweet Adidas shoes you get!"

I figured it out... the news is that UL found a way to bring hookers to the players home in their brand new bang bus

P.S. you would of thought with that new adidas money, they could afford a better vehicle.... but I guess busted up ho's get a busted up party wagon

Fake news just like the ESPN 2019 top 10 where UK is not listed on any of the players list's! It doesn't get much more fake then that!!
