HUGE recruiting news coming..?

Barrett is a Nike kid...... and his top 3 are UK, Duke and Oregon.... ..

Reddish is a Nike kid........and his top 2 are Duke and UK

K Johnson is a Nike kid

Shittu was on the Nike circuit this past summer

Bol Bol is a Nike kid but unfortunately getting cut soured him on us.

We struggled with Adidas guys for so long but then again it turned around when we got 2 last year and we're pretty much a lock for Quickley.... so maybe someone on our staff developed a great relationship with someone from Adidas or maybe their handlers have both adidas and nike ties or maybe those were just 3 guys who didnt get in deep with the shoe company enough to feel loyal..... who knows.

He may not come but not making the team didn't sour him on Kentucky according to his interview. He said he understood the procedure and said that Coach Payne said he should have made the team so he knows where Cal was on that decision.

Not to turn this into an MB thread.. But an ESPN article today said he would have to make up 6 classes worth of credits. Now, not sure when that would have been done. Could have been months ago.

But the article made it sound like he still needed to complete courses to be cleared and that it's possible he'll miss practice time.

Here's to hoping he failed everything possible.

Even if it's true, he will get help and be eligible 2nd semester.

Will he want to play at that point? If he finds out, say, in a month that he won't be eligible until spring semester.. Does he just say "eff it" and prep for draft?

two questions....

1. then what soured him on UK since gurus think UK wont be getting him after thinking we'd get him before the camp?

2. Do you think he'd admit it soured him on UK ?

While true... there has to be a reason we went from perceived favorite to no buzz at all and many saying we wont get him now ....which started after he got cut... I mean something changed... either butt hurt feelings or Cal decided Bol wasnt the right fit.....

After he was cut Kenny Payne called him and told him he should have been on the team. We are still recruiting him

Did Bozo go to Clown College? And what shoe contract did he get? (I think Meadowlark was somehow involved with Bozo's shoe contract but am not sure. I thought I read that somewhere...)

Yeah I doubt if he would admit to anything but the injury wasn't his or Cal's fault in Egypt, and concerning the gurus, just think Knox. Saying that, I do think we have more talented guys ahead of him that we want, but Cal knows not to push anyone away until he gets what he wants. So that's why I think its relevant to know if he still has any interest at all in case everything falls apart in Cal's pecking list.

kids change their opinions all the time on teams, they will change favorites like underwear. Also pundits don't have a clue as well unless the kid says X is my favorite.
We all heard how Knox was going to Duke but he didn't.
Shareef Oneal and Bol Bol are good friends and play on the same AAU team. Oneal is committed to Zona so a lot think that Bol Bol will follow him.
If you remember everybody was saying Bol was going to KU because that is where he lived for a bit.

Coaches might point out how Cal doesn't let his big guy play on the perimeter and hes taken notice? Bol is not a banger at all and likes to roam a good bit inside and out depending on space. Cal doesn't play that way.

So, @CoachX11 who is UK getting next year? Hearing anything?

Still early

Quickley(Since Spring), Zion, Johnson are probably the guys you feel best about.

I heard some Barrett information that made me think that UK isn't at the top of the list, but it's early. Visits mean a lot.

There isn't a whole lot of 1 and dones in this group (3-ish) so you can afford to be picky.

There was something Cal didn't like about King, so he could pass on him.

Stop acting like the Bol and UK buzz stopped long after the team USA stuff..... it was right after......... which prompted the question to Bol in which he said the only thing he could say... that it didnt effect him..... and then afterwards..... everyone still said that Bol to UK was a long shot.

Dont have to be a top detective to tell something happened during that time frame........... unless Bol was using UK and Cal all along.

Liked everything but the Barrett info.

Thanks @CoachX11 ... Always appreciate any info. Hows your team shaping up this year??

Any possibility it could relate to a 2 year rule? Trying to think outside the box here. Would be seismic. After Dukes class this year they probably thought "wow, could you imagine letting K have these kids for 2 years!"
You do realize that K is a symbol for strike out .

Maybe worry about Bagley playing this semester before who Duke's next recruit will be.

To compete for Duke this year, however, he must earn approval from the NCAA clearinghouse. Bagley attended three high schools in three years, a situation that could draw beyond-the-norm scrutiny from NCAA officials, who will examine his transcripts to see if he completed the required 10 "core" courses prior to his seventh semester of high school. From there, he must finish six additional core courses and maintain a 2.3 GPA in those classes.

Classes began this past Monday. Still no sign that Bagley will be cleared. I think there's a fair chance he doesn't play this semester. Practices for Duke start Sept 28th, less than a month away.

Agree, but:

1. Can those courses be done over your entire HS campaign.
2. What type of BS classes can you supplant?

It really depends on when he had this "decision" to reclassify in his mind. If this was from a year ago, and he started prepping? Ok, do-able. But on the other end of the spectrum, he basically reclassified at the star of August. So he's had a month to complete 6 classes? No chance.

He can't participate in official practices unless he is enrolled by September 8.

Yes, I did see that in the past. Thanks for bringing it up. So he's not enrolled now because he's not eligible yet, correct? Official practices can't happen until 42 days before the first regular seasons game, so for Duke that means practices won't start until like, Sept 28th-ish. So if he's not enrolled by the 8th, what happens? No practices at all? No fall semester? No nothing?

The funny part about all of this, is that College s just a stepping stone for him. He doesn't care to play for Kentucky or Duke or anyone (and no problem with that). But the NCAA is going to try their absolute hardest to give Duke 1 year of MB, despite that MB's camp probably wouldn't care if he isn't eligible.

No fall semester. No practices. Nothing unless he moves to Durham and plays pickup games.

As far as 2018 recruits go, Duke has an official visit lined up with Nasir Little in November. Make of that what you will.

Not sure if this is semantics of the situation or not but Bagley is enrolled at Duke already. He can be enrolled and still be waiting to hear from the NCAA.

You need to spoon-feed me things.. especially today as I started my shift like 4 hours early and my brain is mush. What does a 2018 recruit have to do with Bagley/this year?

Wouldn't surprise me. But I think MB is a game changer for them, for many reasons. He's a sure-fire top3 pick next year, where as some of Duke's recruits could be "meh", and he provides depth. Without him, that team will have a ton of issues. They would be one Allen/K meltdown away from their season derailing.
Agree with him being a potential game changer. I'm like you. Trent has been sliding in the rankings since the all star games. He has the classic making of a kid who was a bully in hs as a guard that won't have near the advantage in college. Even Carter who was as high as 2 and was rarely ranked lower than 4 is down to 5 or 6 and was underwhelming at the all star games. One hs game I saw him play in he wanted to sit out at the 3 point line where he did hit some shots. Pouted when he was taken out first half for foul trouble. This was a playoff game vs PJ washington. Who honestly looks to be the same height as Carter which is 6ft8. Think you could see some serious chemistry issues come from carter who will now play center for duke Which isnt a three point shooting position. Duval doesn't come across as a duke style pg either.

throw in Bolden who I believe was made promises not to transfer and a ball hog in allen and this team is a potential locker room nightmare. bolden and mom dont seem the quiet sort and wouldn't be surprised to see a mid season transfer giving their inside depth a hit. Duke does not play a style of offense that caters to a 3 point shooting inside out center. So either Carter or Bagley is gonna have his butt planted in the paint. One thing these so called expert have not figured out is recruiting one and dones its as important to make sure the kids can get along as their ability to play. Cal doesn't just roll the balls out

Cal did not cut him. The decision to keep or cut a kid was by committe. Various college coaches did the choosing. For example Arizona's Miller voted to cut Bol Bol and he is recruiting him very hard.
Him liking it on the west coast and being friends with Shareef O'Neil is why we have competition for Bol Bol not the U19 which I think was a no way do we give Cal another top hs kid on this team to impress cause it sounds like on this interview Bol liked the limited time with Cal https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.se...recruiting-peach-jam-bol-bol-calipari-usa/amp
