If someone told D.Lamb he could still play here he’d probably show up to a few games tbh. Maybe sneak him in for some minutes?

I can’t find it but there was once a picture of Vargas headed to the bench and Strickland was giving him this mean mug disgusted look that always cracked me up. Always thought it was nice having a veteran all-star NBA PG for recruiting and player development, can’t imagine the look he would’ve given hagans as he was shitting down his leg against Auburn.

I like him, but Justin Thomas is first team all prick.

-Brandon Knight was 12-37 in the NCAAT from 3. 1-6 vs OSU & 3-11 vs UConn.

Also had 16 turnovers to 17 assists. If he was white Chad would hate him just like he does Herro, game winners be damned.

Unfortunately, Knight’s 32% was 14% better than Peach Tyler. Big difference. Nice try, though. [thumb2]

This prompted me to take a look at each player's 3-pt shooting for NCAA-T compared against their freshman season average:

+22.6% Jones
+19.0% Baker
+14.4% Aa Harrison
+13.9% Wiltjer
+12.9% Lamb
+9.6% SGA
+9.1% Bledsoe
+8.0% Young
+7.5% Teague
+7.1% Ulis
+4.0% Fox
+0.8% An Harrison
+0.8% Wall
-0.5% Diallo
-4.3% Green
-4.8% K. Johnson
-5.1% Monk
-5.3% Knight
-5.5% MKG
-11.4% Quickley
-13.3% Hagans
-13.7% Dodson
-13.8% Lyles
-14.4% Booker
-15.8% Herro
-15.8% Hood
-16.7% Randle
-22.1% Murray
-23.0% Knox
-31.7% Gabriel

Conclusion: Most of our dead-eye shooters have been complete dog shit in the NCAA-T. Probably no small part of why Cal is against relying on 3pt shooting in the post-season....

Somebody check @wcc31 to make sure he's not hyperventilating....

Probably not a coincidence that the 2014 team went on a run after Aaron and Young started knocking down shots.

Bledsoe's shooting is probably the biggest surprise on that list - I remember him being terrible, but he looks like a decent shooter in retrospect.

He hit 8 in a second round blowout of Wake.

Joel Justus made $230,000 this past season. What a total waste of money. I’m fine with our assistants making top coin as long as they prove their value. Kenny Payne is worth every cent.

Justus though? Good gracious. Hit the bricks and go pay your dues at some OVC school, you fool.

-I don't know why every division 1 team doesn't follow the Grinnell blueprint. Why on earth would anyone even take a 2 pointer nowadays. Even on a break away dunk, a pull up 3 is a much better option. Color me bewildered.

-I graduated with one of Fuzzy's daughter. We were Juniors when that controversy went down. There was a substitute teacher who asked her why he would say such a thing. He was fired that day.

-So Mullin is about to step down at St. John's and it seems Bobby Hurley would be their top choice. He's still coming into his own as a coach but I would love this move. Get Bobby back into his neck of the woods. I love me some Big East basketball.

Part of the Grinnell footprint is to get one guy all the shots in order to score as many points as possible.

I love Division 3 basketball.

Jack Taylor >>>> Bevo Francis. IMHO.

On the flip side we were 7th in the country in free throw attempts this year which is all fine and dandy but if a big part of your offense is getting to the line then one would think you open yourself up more to getting screwed over by the refs.

The past 2 years are the only 2 seasons under Cal we have been in the 300's in the country in 3 point field goal attempts. Every other year we hovered in the 200's and even dared to get in the 100's. There has to be some happy medium between turbo jacking Auburn and whatever the eff we are doing now that isn't working.

I much rather have a player pull up for a half court heave than go in for an easy layup bc it's one more point if he makes it. I would even like to see players purposely miss free throws in hopes of a long rebound and possible kick out 3. I would send players to the locker room immediately if they even shot a 2. Unacceptable! Are all of these so called HoF coaches stupid or something?

Something close to this strategy actually worked for Virginia last night near the end of regulation.

As they always do, the commentators suggested that UVA should go for a quick two when they were down 3 with ~25 seconds left. Sure enough, the lane opened up for Jerome, who could've taken it all the way, but he correctly kicked it out to Hunter for three.

Tie ballgame. Overtime. The rest is history.
