Just back from a middle school track meet and man those things are a cattle call. Kids everywhere and 500+ adults that paid $5 to watch the show. Niece racked up - two 1st and a 3rd in individual events and a 1st and 2nd in relays. 4 team event so a pretty good haul.

- Witten redshirted his youngest son this year. He was really young for his class so probably a good move. He was offered and wanted to take the high school job Dilfer left in Nashville but mama said no.

Praying for the latest CBS Bracketology. 7 seed with 2nd round matchup against Marquette in Columbus. Would love to smack them gafs for what happened in 2003. They can get a taste of playing a much lower seed playing close to home with an arena full of hostile fans.
F that game in every way possible. I know I (among others) have said it here before, but I’ll never stop being mad about or repeating it. That bullshit foul against ‘Twain literally changed the entire game.

Well a bunch of neighborhood kids here (6th-8th graders) have an online sports GAMBOL account with one of the Dads.

It's like $10-$30 a kid and they're all buddies, but gotta admit I'm not sure this is a healthy extracurricular.

A buddy (who shortly into this venture put an end to his son's participation), admitted it was amusing watching him learn the usual GAMBOL lessons of a novice for a bit, but I guess hearing your 12 year old quote lines, refer to locks, and talk parlays like a degenerate middle-aged man wouldn't sit too well after awhile.

My non holdback 17yo is officially getting recruited by several FCS schools so that’s pretty awesome. Some FBS lurkers as well but that’s probably for the holdback kids. Realistically if he held back a year with another year of development he’d be a legit FBS athlete. But he also has a 4.24 GPA and can go anywhere he wants to go academically so what is the point in that?

^ Transfer portal. I hear lots of talk down here about going somewhere smaller to get on the field, prove what you have and then hit the portal. Seems like a kicker would be one of the best positions for that.

It does happen all the time. But also 70% of kids in the portal never end up playing again. He’s more likely to graduate early and then get an extra year at a different grad school. He really has no desire to be a school hopper. Personally I think the transfer portal is awful which is why they’re making some new restrictions on schools who accept transfers. Would rather he just find a good home and stick it out.

-When I moved to America in kindergarten I didn’t speak a word of English but by the time I was in the 3rd grade I was so much smarter than my inbred West Virginia classmates that I skipped the 3rd grade and went straight to 4th. I was never really given an option that I remember. Problem is I was a “late bloomer” and kept growing until I was 21. I’m currently 6 feet tall but beginning of senior year I was 5’3”. Junior High and HS were the worst years of my life and actually quite awful, and I’m not really sure how it benefited me but it’s not like I was going to be an athlete anyway so whatever.

-Have we actually started getting hot late in the season? That would be something. Trying to think what years we were playing our best in late February I got:

2011
2012
2014
2017

2016 Murray got cold, 2019 PJ Washington got hurt, 2020 Hagans was a basket case (though I still think that team had a run in them). I mean we are due a fluke run are we not? #whynot

-couple new sports books opened up here in Columbus now that Ohio passed sports gambling. Cannot wait to check them out. The one at the casino looks pretty dope actually. Kinda crazy not having to go to Vegas to bet, which is what I’ve been conditioned to do. If they pass recreational in the next decade I’m set. My kids have no idea how much better they’ll have it than I did

2014 lost 4 of the last 7 in the regular season and 2011 lost 4 in February. I'm not sure we've had a team that struggled early and got hot at the end of the regular season like this one potentially could. Either they've been good all year or they got hot in the tournament.

I have an image in my brain of what Ron Mehico looks like in real life, and it's very close to Bighead from Silicon Valley.

After that road win at UT in 2011 the light went on and we murked everyone in the SEC tournament. That team couldn’t have picked a better time to get hot. 2014 light went on during SEC tournament as well. Guess we’ll need to see how we do in Nashville this year

@Ron Mehico - recs on a Kayts friendly downtown Columbus spot for senior night?

Not necessarily cats friendly, but there’s a sports bar that opened right in the middle of short north (across the street from convention center and Hyde park steakhouse) called parlay that’s supposed to be pretty bad ass. 100+ TVs, stadium seating, and I’m pretty sure betting. I haven’t been but was planning on going for SEC tournament games. Right in heart of downtown so beside tons of bars and cool spots.

Anyone looking for a good true crime watch on Netflix- I’m about one episode in on The Murdaugh Murders and so far so good.

It’s like Outer Banks but people die and cover it up in odd ways.

Hey…Whadyaknow, a state where one can legally patron an establishment and place some wagers on a sport that doesn’t involve an animal running around in a circle.

What a novel concept!

That’s ok. We’ll busload all of the blue hairs into some dumpy OTB so they can play historical horse racing slot machines.

UNBRIDLED SPIRIT!

-It's just so f*cking frustrating. We win 3 of MSU, UCLA, UGA, KU, USC, or Mizzou and we're in line for a 1 or 2 seed hopefully playing in front of a home crowd the 2nd weekend.

-Need a dinner recommendation for a nice spot in Austin. Any other must hits for lunch as well. Probably have time for 2 meals there. Bob recommended Eddie V's but I'll hit one of the other 31 locations across the country.

-Watched that one last week. That family, and really everyone from South Carolina, have a distorted sense of reality. I'm not really sure where the arrogance comes from. It's kinda like, "you're acting really pompous, but that accent paired with your stupid haircut and goatee make you look/sound like an idiot."

-Bear and The Butcher has some damn fine wings. Definitely the best I've had in Lex.

-Saw a truck yesterday, with an old dude driving, bumper sticker on the back "TRUMP KILLED JOHN PRINE." Just no effs given.

Casual lunch/dinner or afternoon beers, like the vibe of the neighborhood here.

my third grader missed her last two months of K and her entire first grade year.

We basically went from nap time to dipping our toes into light division in second grade.

There are girls 16-18 months older than her sitting beside her in class.

She reads at around a fifth grade level according to her teacher but we are at an apprentice on the report cards in reading. She is severely lacking in focus and maturity compared to nearly all the other kids in her class.

She isn’t going to be a Candace Parker or cat Osterman but she does enjoy playing ball.

She will more than likely be held back.

Now up to a 6 in the Louisville region.

Marquette as our 3, with Texas as the 2.

I get the excitement over good seeding in these brackets but gang, it’s like these pretend 6 team trades we spoke about earlier. It may be kind of close but that’s not an actual bracket you’re getting, just fyi.

wcc already has his posted saved and ready to hit "post reply" about how bad the NCAA Selection Committee f'd us, about how hard our path is, about how we got all the unlucky breaks. Probably just cut and paste it directly from the last 21 years.

You never know, this year has been very light on the complaining about charging calls. Proud of you all!

I watched some of that and was interested from the beginning... then my wife let me know there is like a 100 hours of a podcast series on this- which is still ongoing.

It's fascinating. Also sad.

Alex Murdaugh = Aleck Murdock apparently

I love how Buster got kicked out of law school for plagiarism. Hey dipshit, you can finish last in your class and still join your hideously ugly family with terrible interior design taste in BFE and be a millionaire. Why the hell would he cheat
