Did Cal really say “Daimion next man up”? Lol.

Has there ever been a consensus POY who has never even won a NCAA tournament game? It’s going to happen with Oscar and that makes me sad.

-I was serious about my question earlier, when did Robic and Cal part ways? I can’t recall

Season 3 Jack Ryan pretty solid so far.

-Finally saw Maverick the other day. Yes it was fine , but my biggest takeaway was Ed Harris being 95 years old. Damn

-MCB-If anything Sat -I’m at least a little intrigued to see Wade get some run at QB.

I continue to be absolutely dumfounded that anyone could have watched POPPIN Toppin play the last two seasons and somehow think he would magically turn out to be a star player this year. He literally couldn't start because he was a significantly worse player than Keion Brooks.

Brooks is averaging 16.6 and 6.5 for Washington, btw. Maybe that's the one you forgot, anth.
Hopkins is averaging 16.7 and 9.7 for Providence.

Instead, we ended up with 3 inferior players for the position from last years team. The incompetence astounds.

Man this just sucks. Simple as that.

Really thought this roster was built to cover up the deficiencies from past years and was primed to have a good year.

Nice thing about NCAA Basketball is these losses can be washed away.

But anything other then blind optimism at the moment is a fool's errand.

I'll see your LSU gymnast and raise you the WVU gymnast:

I'm just waiting on their locker room video to come out.

*Yawn* The usual when the head coach loses it:

- All the players now suck and have always sucked. Just poor talent.

- We don’t play hard.

- Our assistants suck.

- We miss the contributions of a former assistant.

- Our strength and conditioning program needs a serious look!

I’m sure we’re about to hear rumors of Livingston and Toppin chasing the same ADPi.

It’s all bullshit. Our coach is a has-been who for some reason doesn’t play our best lineups and has zero offensive creativity.

That’s the story.

People continue to point out that nobody plays basketball the way Calipari coaches anymore, which is 100% correct. His solution to EVERY SINGLE problem is always to fight harder/compete more/battle/get tougher/rebound better......🤮🤮🤮

Just made me have a random thought -- after seeing Luka Doncic post a 60/21/10 box score, did he earn his way into the starting lineup because of how hard he battles in practice? Because he dives for loose balls? Did Steph Curry and Klay Thompson get a starting nod because of how hard they fight? Because of their toughness and how hard they battle for rebounds and fight thru screens?

(answer: no)

For once in my life, I'd love to hear Cal gush about a guy being a great passer or shooter. Even when those dudes do come along, he usually tells us he'd love to get them in the game more, but he can't do it unless they play better defense and rebound. 🤬

This is the kind of thinking that leaves Lance Ware getting 30 minutes a game, yet Fredrick and Reeves can barely get an open shot.

I think this team would benefit from not having Oscar as involved, but there's obviously no way that's going to happen.

He's a great player and kid, but force feeding him on offense and his turnstile defense is a problem at this point.

As it stands he's averaging amazing numbers and we stink out loud.

It seems like most HOF coaches would be able to make the tough decisions and adjust. Cal takes the path of least resistance, blames others, and the results speak for themselves.

-Matt is right, we all prefer this idiot figure this shit out and get back to where he was 7-8 years ago. Whether that's recruit players that are so good his coaching is negated OR just put a minimum of 4(**** I'd settle for 3)scorers on the floor at one time.

I assume, when he said, "I don't know, I don't know". He was biting his tongue but it's but it's really the prevalent sentiment. Like how the hell is this where we are? What an odd predicament. We have a HOF, 14 year coach with a lifetime contract, with one of the best all time recruiting classes coming in next season. Yet he is running an archaic offense and seems to only be digging further in with now grip on reality. To the point it's fair to ask if he's literally gone crazy.

We're in for at least this and next season.

-Mizzou waxed us. LSU best Arkansas. Florida played Auburn to the buzzer. Old Miss played UT to the buzzer. TAMU is solid. MSU is to 20. We're not going .500 in conference.

-Down 15 he played Wheeler and Ware the entire 2nd half with Reeves on the bench until junk time. Not that we were getting stops BUT stops don't do any good if you can't f*cking score at the other end.

- Could post some analytics to make the point, I guess, but pretty sure everybody with eyes can see that:

a. we don't utilize our best personnel together;
b. the players who are in the game are not used optimally or efficiently;
c. other teams know this and exploit it.

Nothing new. Last night reminded of that Alabama game from a couple years ago where they ran us by 20 at home. In that game we were playing Sarr, Brooks, and Isaiah Jackson together against a 5-out lineup and the contrast in styles could not be more obvious. Essentially nothing has changed except our players are a little better now. That game took place on Jan. 12, 2021 btw.

- Ware "plays hard" but obviously cannot guard a college basketball 4. Crazy to even have to write that. Him getting 30 minutes exclusively at the 4 at this point in the season is actually unbelievable to me.

- Reeves and CJ (who got injured, I realize) combined for 19 total minutes.

- Think this team's talent has been overrated, generally speaking. I think this team really misses a guy like Mintz who was far from the most talented player we have had here but knew how to play basketball and did not wilt. Helped that he was often playing with Grady and Washington; this team just doesn't have a lineup like that, or at least not one that the coach is willing to play.

As I posted last year, I don't think you're winning anything of note if your crunch time lineup includes Wheeler, Toppin, and Oscar. Still should be enough to break 60 points against UCLA and not lose to Missouri by 14.

- Very weird place for the fandom right now. Even in the last few Tubby years and with Gillispie I watched all the games and thought we were trying to win them. I cannot shake the feeling that winning games is just not high on the priority list right now, and to be frank I do not care for that at all.

At this point, does anyone believe this team is making the tournament? If they do it may be a bigger turnaround than the 13-14 team making that insane March run.

This team wasn't far from being good a couple weeks ago, but we're going the wrong direction. No point in belaboring all of the issues. They aren't getting fixed.

Bryce Hopkins definitely would've made the difference. Giant rolleyes.

Didn't watch last night, intentionally. I can only say that about a handful of games ever, mostly during the 2020-21 season and probably some Billy G games.

MCB forecast now saying 60 with occasional morning rain. Might be a pleasant one. Kinda excited to watch the youth get some snaps, even if the game ends in a 0-0 tie that goes to penalty kicks.

Started watching Strange World with the kid a couple nights ago without knowing anything going in... within the first 10 minutes, the main character is revealed to be an avocado toast eating, biracial gay teen organic farmer. I'm left of center and all for inclusion and representation, but it was really beating you over the head. It's like they were just checking boxes. Felt almost insulting, like it was Ben Shapiro's mental picture of the left. Turned it off so I didn't have to explain homosexuality to a 5 year old.

WTF is Happening Musings:

* People point to 2015 as the downfall of Cal here, which is understandable, but I think it was the combination of the lifetime contract in the summer of 2019 followed by COVID that really broke this. During COVID Calipari was able to hermetically seal himself from the BBN and (seemingly) anyone who doesn't kiss his ass. He's kept that up to the greatest degree possible since. Now he does just enough media to get his JMI money and spouts off lunatic nonsense on the rare occasions when he does deign to talk to the unwashed masses.

The fact that the state's highest paid employee refuses to go on KSR and face the mildest criticism possible from an interviewer who has every financial incentive to make Calipari look good is embarrassing.

It makes Calipari look like a wimp.

* Starting with the 2020-2021 season, Cal's winning percentage is 60.5%. Gillispie's winning percentage at UK was 59.7%.

It certainly does not look like that percentage is going to improve the rest of the year.

* Barnhart needs to go ASAP. You can't keep the AD who negotiated the albatross contract that created this situation.

If we can't fire Calipari, we should absolutely fire the guy who made Calipari unfireable.

* Playing Ware 30 minutes last night was legitimately idiotic... but much smarter than playing Toppin 13 minutes (or any minutes, frankly.)

* You could have swapped the rosters last night and Gates would have beaten Calipari by 30+.

* In-game redass aside, are we at the point where we root for losses to force a change? That is loathsome for a fan under almost all circumstances but when you have a coach who will not make the changes that are obvious to literally everyone and has no incentive other than pride (which he's obviously abandoned) to change, what can we do?

* During the post-game presser, Calipari was asked about Fredrick. His response was, of course, "I haven't seen him." And then Calipari proceeded to mention something Fredrick had told him about the injury.

🤮

“Success has 1,000 fathers. Failure is an orphan.”

The fact he continues to claim naivety about how we are here or more importantly, how TF we’re going to turn the ship around has been going on for years, and it’s bullsh*t. You make 10m a year and the best you’ve come up with is “a tweak / I don’t know”.

It’s like the scene from Casino when Ace Rothstein has to fire the gaming commissioner’s nephew because he’s either in on it (middle finger to BBN) or too stupid to realize he’s being scammed (offense has evolved) - either way, he’s got to go.

Last night sucked. And it’s hard to see how this Gets better. I said a lot and still have a lot more to say today but the theme is the same. This sucks

It was cool to see two Gyeroers at the bar last night, Grand Padre and the Clown. Thanks for coming by. Clown, I am sorry I was seating tables and couldn’t come by but I appreciate the hello as well

What a shit show the game was

Yup. It’s almost like he’s double downing on Oscar bc he has no other options. Which is just making the situation worse.

Reality is our talent is really subpar. There are no real NBA players on this team. Maybe Wallace?

- Cal was only a little behind the times in 2015. Now everyone except us basically plays like that Notre Dame team who almost beat us.

- Even so, he still had teams who could have won it all in 2017 and 2019 with a bounce here or there. I still think 2020 could have been a helluva March team but who knows what Hagans would give you.

- Cal really needs to be saved by his roster. I mean 2017 was a modern team only because he didn’t have much choice in personnel. Meanwhile, 2018 had some amazing smallball pieces but legit like 3 guards on the entire roster.

- We’re remarkably a couple guards short and a couple bigs heavy every single year, including 2015 - the deepest team of our lives.

- Oscar would be perfect as a million dollar garbage man surrounded by four perimeter guys. He’d eat all he needed on rim runs, pick-n-pops, transition hustle and putbacks. It would be better for him on D, too. He’ll never be great there but it’s a lot better having only one guy who can be exposed on switches.

- I just don’t buy the talent argument. John Calipari himself built an elite team around one star. Here we have bare minimum a stud combo guard, the NPOY and some shooters.

- I mean, I love our recruiting class. Dillingham, Wagner and Shep can all get their shots. Edwards is as of versatile modern 2-way forward as we’ve had. Even love what I hear about Bradshaw. Add to Oyenso, Thiero, etc BUT, there’s little doubt Cal will play two bigs, crowding the lanes for these elite drivers. I mean, I suppose you roll the dice on another year BUT understand the argument.

Not a popular thing to say but we’re running our offense through a less talented Chuck Hayes who clogs up the middle and grinds the offense to a halt.

I don’t think anyone disagrees. No one should run the ball through the post. That said, Oscar is the least of our issues. His consistent productivity has become underrated by BBN.

Do you ever question how we got here?

Because I remember hearing the old heads screaming from their rocking chair that gay marriage would lead to this.

I thought they were crazy and bigoted. I would have been considered left of center then too.

Now I find myself in the same situation you are making the decision to either keep watching a show and explain to my seven year old son why two men are kissing each other on the lips or turn it off and hope he didn’t absorb any of that bullshit.

I blame republicans. Weak fuxking republicans

- I was relieved when the last Gillispie team sucked out loud because I knew it would force a change. I didn't cheer for losses, but I wasn't upset about them, either.

- I went to a Pacers game the other night and the score mid-way through the second quarter would be unfathomable for a Cal team post-2019. I tried my hardest to just enjoy the product on the floor. NBA ball is so much more free. The refs stay out of it for the most part. The legion of little kids in Trae Young jerseys mesmerized by his ability to change directions in the air was awesome. Gainbridge is a beautiful arena. It's fun as hell to watch a pure shooter like Buddy Hield.

But I just felt bitter the whole damn game that John V. Calipari somehow sells the rotting abortion of an offense he runs to kids as their path to play NBA ball. This shit is supposed to be fun. It's not. It's unabashedly a failing product. He's lost the fanbase. No one would take him off our hands. His version of basketball is an entirely different sport than what the rest of the world is playing in 2023. The total stall out of his innovation--which made up for a lot of his shortcomings as an Xs and Os guy--is baffling.

I was looking at the Pacers roster and saw they have a kid from Kentucky on the roster. I know the name Isaiah Jackson, but I honestly have no memory of him in a Kentucky jersey. That might have felt the worst, tbh. I knew the whole roster backwards and front as recently as 2018. The apathy that's set in around the program is crushing.

- Frank Kaminsky plays for the Hawks, and I wanted so badly to scream epithets at him but there were little kids sitting right in front of me having a nice time. I still hate your 2" vertical, flat-footed honky ass, Frank.
