Joel Justus or this guy...

Robic isn't a coach, he's the "Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Basketball Operations"

Pretty sure he switched jobs with Joel Justus. Same thing that happened with Barbee/Lucas.

Problem #1 is we have zero PG.

Can't drive & dish if you can't drive.

We are going to have to speed things up and attack in transition, IMO. We are brutal in the half court.

If you are going to just yell GOOCOOOOOOOOOOO! Mean it.

Better chance of Allen, Askew, Boston or Mintz losing their man for a few seconds and actually getting an open shot running the court than there is running a weave 30 feet from the basket and struggling to get the ball to each other.

Rotate Sarr, Brooks, Jackson, Ware and Toppin and have them rebound and run to the rim. They might get some easy buckets and will be in position to rebound the bricks that our guards will undoubtedly put up.

I mean, our PG dribbled down the court and stepped on the sideline yesterday. How does that happen? Where was he trying to go?

I've never seen a team struggle so much just to pass or hand the ball off to each other.

Yep.

I like both Mintz and especially Askew as a long term college player -- but he's shown very little ability to be an actual point guard unless it's the end of the game & he's forced to.

When you don't have someone that can (or will) break down a defense & create easy looks, you don't have much of a shot in college basketball.

Any little jitterbug from a Top 150 team would be an upgrade for us in that regard. I've screamed for years that we're always (at least) one guard short, even on some of our better teams.

Unfortunately, our coach would rather have 8 bigs instead. As Chad has mentioned, next year will likely be even worse in that regard. Ugh.

The fact that we turn it over on our initial offensive entry pass (which is a forced pass to a center 30 feet out) is the most maddening thing about it all. It's just incredible to me that he can watch tape of that game after game after game and still think that's how our offense should start each possession.

The problem with that is that they are terrible in transition too.

Since we have the spare scholly, Cal should just make a standing offer to whoever wins Mr. Basketball. We'd kill for a Dom Hawkins type right now and they're often the waterbug type that dK describes. Maybe they don't take it and go elsewhere, maybe they don't pan out... but it would build some good will and maybe even provide an occasional extra player with basic skills to turn to in case of a 'break glass' emergency like the one we're experiencing.

It has been amazing. I think we all hoped that Dom Hawkins would teach Cal the importance of having a four year guard on stand by but NOPE!

Jeff Sheppard... as a beloved Wildcat historical figure... more popular than any Cal recruit or nah?

A morale booster is on Toppin to act.

Couple more weeks with the lettuce growth, he needs to roll out with more jheri curl, a 1/8 inch wide headband and some eyeliner.

Dude would look like Micki Free.

Or, hire Jalen Rose....

I don't necessarily disagree with the whole point guard assessment but when your spacing is so poor, it causes problems even if you are John Wall.

We have two people that defenses even bother to locate when they are more than 15 feet from the basket, Mintz and Allen.

It's Sarr's problem too, he's weak and slow to get into his post moves but he didn't just forget how to play basketball...he draws a crowd every time he touches it because they respect no one else offensively. He deals with double teams very poorly.

Problem one, two and three is our coach, his offensive philosophy and how he has recruited to it.

The NBA would Brook Lopez Sarr as a stretch 5 as he's probably our second or third best 3 point shooter (and if Cal truly cares about getting him to the league that's how he should play him). Try to get him, Mintz and Allen spacing and give Brooks and Boston some driving lanes.

This of course, is all wasted keystrokes...not only did Cal double down last night he doubled down and blamed the Bennies. We might see a 4 big lineup next game.

I'm with SAE, he's a complete mess and I'm sorry if I don't share with some of you the hope that he turns this ship around. Glad to be wrong about that.

This right here.

These guys just don't know how to play. On a spring break trip to Florida one year some of us started playing at a pick-up court by the beach. Five slow honks from KY rolled any and all that day because we knew HOW to play.

I can’t even pinpoint our #1 problem.

PG is a good call. Or ...

Both of our stud wings busting.

Our lone returnee being out over half the season.

Our outside shooting.

Cal’s overall gross mismanagement of the roster.

Cal’s outdated offensive philosophy.

Lack of basketball IQ.

Lack of confidence.

Replacing 8 of your Top 9.

COVID-19.

There’s a ton of shit. And it’s depressing and only going to become more depressing in two months.

For god’s sake, BBN is going two years between NCAA Tournaments. That memory of Johnson not being able to get that put back up at the end of regulation is lingering.

Real question- what was going on during thr Florida game? That’s not a bad team and we murked them.
