Bryce Harper — $330 million over 13 years, with no opt outs and a full no trade clause.

It’s kinda whatever for the Phillies, but I don’t really like it much for him. Not sure why he wouldn’t put an opt out in there at some point.

Shew, the 15 year streak of there being ZERO good all around contracts, per PTI(pti), stays alive! :fire:

That was a close one. :eyes:

MLB is largely doing what I’ve been saying for years. GMs absolutely hate the free agent market these days.

I believe the initial offers were all around 10 years $300 but probably had some team protections in there too. I guess it was worth it to him to basically guarantee himself the additional $30 Million, even knowing he is probably going to retire in Philly.

For Philly- I think its a pretty big win considering it actually fills a need for their team, not just tossing money at a guy for the sake of it, combined with the return on investment he gets for them marketing-wise, and who knows what the hell FA is going to look like in a decade.

Also (h/t Twitter), Bobby Bonilla will still have 4 years of payouts left after Harper's contract expires.

This gives Philly enough leeway to go after noted Philly Homer Mike Trout in a couple years.

I'm not a baseball but it seems like having 7-800 million dollars tied up into two outfielders is unlikely to leave a lot of money left for important things like pitchers, catchers, 2nd basemen, shortstops, bats, balls, uniforms, peanuts, crackerjacks...

Well Bristol, Harper is locked in at 25M per year. So even if they sign Trout to 35M a year that leaves them around 100M to fill out the rest of their team based on their normal spending habits.

There are roughly 14 teams that spend under 100M per year right for their whole team.

So it really is a team friendly deal.

The Phillies wouldn’t give him an Opt Out clause if they were going to make that long of a commitment. The no trade clause can be waived by Harper if he wants. The man is going to make roughly 70,000 a day for the next 13 years. Not a bad gig, if you can get it.

Close your eyes, Centch.

Vecenie finally updated his board after a few months. He's an uber nerd, but he's by far the best going in terms of NBA Draft coverage & scouting, imo.

This may be the weakest draft since...? Shew

- Rothstein’s awful. Way too Jersey for me.

- Actually like the draft up top. Just me or is Naz Reid being underrated?

- Expecting a chippy game tomorrow.

The top 5 appears strong and then it’s pure liquid dog shit.

Worst draft class has to be Noel’s in 2013 right? Anybody decent come out of that one?

Edit: welp looks like the Greek freak was selected 15tho_O
