--Keeneland today was fantastic. The weather was as good as it gets. Tanned, drunken sloots wearing sundresses as far as the eye could see. Hope the rest of you upper-class schmucks made it out.
--As for the USPS, the vast majority of its losses in recent years resulted from a 2006 law requiring them to pre-fund the healthcare costs of future pensioners to the tune of $5 billion a year for ten years. No other government agency or private company does this. That expense alone accounts for $50 billion of the $65.1 billion in USPS losses since 2007.
More important, the postal service is envisioned by the Constitution and provides a public good, like education, so it's not a business trying to make a profit. And that's okay. Not everything should be profit-driven.
--I loathe GYERO politics. Everyone is hyper-sensitive these days with the pension issue, Trump, Bevin, etc., so I guess it makes sense that it's spilled over to some extent. But this place hasn't ever been about politics, and I don't want to be a part of it degenerating into that.
Here's to hoping we can all leave the talking points at the door and go back to the good ol' days of blatant personal attacks, irrational emotional outbursts, and defending to the death sometimes awful takes about entirely inconsequential topics.
That's the GYERO I know and love.
