Tennessee

Yes, we did beat Tennessee at Tennessee …and then we lost to the last place team on our home court.

You left that last part out.
Regardless of the situation, you have to be realistic about our game. It sucks and all of that, but Arkansas would’ve probably beaten anyone Saturday night playing like that.

Agreed. I just don’t get the complaining about the polls. The AP poll is utterly meaningless anyways. So who cares? The NET is the only ranking system worth paying attention to.

Right and mentioning it strengthens his case that the poll voting is oddball. If we were a very strong team—the kind of team which, in a vacuum, you would have expected to see beat Duke, UL, and Florida and beat Gonzaga, aTm, Mississippi State, and UT all at home—then UT losing to us even in Thompson-Boling wouldn’t be a big deal at all. You could make a case for still moving them up after that week given their bounce-back blowout versus Florida. Add in our loss to Clemson, our utter evisceration at the hands of mighty Ohio State, and now our playing like little girls against last-place Arkansas and it becomes harder to see why the voters didn’t want to ding UT harder for losing to us at home. There are certainly some reasons to call our Arkansas night an outlier, given the storyline. But I wouldn’t have really expected AP voters in general to weigh those reasons very heavily, especially in a way that’s basically so complimentary of us.

Yes, the AP poll is often “oddball”, because it represents nothing more than the biased opinions of some sports writers. But it’s also meaningless. It has no impact on anything that actually matters. So who cares?

Never quite gotten why this board gets so worked up over the AP poll. Nobody is ever gonna remember who the AP ranked this or that on this day in history.

I’m not sure why we moved up four spots either. I’m assuming because a ton of teams around us lost on Saturday. Either way, I don’t think Tennessee is a top 5 team. If we could shoot, yeah. But our shooting has been abysmal. That being said, I am glad the SEC doesn’t have to play each other right away in the tournament. I expect five or more SEC teams in the sweet sixteen.

More than likely the last half of the NCAA tournament will be an SEC tournament 2.0

Houston went 1-1 and moved up along with Tennessee and if I’m not mistaken so do Michigan state. It’s bull crap, everyone hates UK. Media, Refs, it wasn’t Cal it’s UK in general.

Why get upset over the polls. they are meaningless and who cares. All the final standings will be desided on the court in March. I could care less if we are #1 or #25. It means NOTHING! We are not going to win or lose a single game based on the damn polls.

When you have to win six games in March to win a title, you want the easiest road possible. Getting a good seed is paramount to that happening. So in that regard, they do matter.

The AP rankings have nothing to do with seeding. The Committee has repeatedly explicitly stated that it does not even look at or consider them. The only rankings that they’re permitted to bring in the room and consider when seeding teams are the final NET rankings.

And nobody who has a vote for the AP rankings is part of the Committee.

Not directly of course not but if you are ranked high in the AP you're going to get a decent seed lol.

Exactly what you said
No, it absolutely is not.

I presume it was UT’s blowout win over top 5 ranked Florida that caused them to move up, it obviously wasn’t the loss to us. But, honestly, I don’t think anyone knows. This season has been so illogically unpredictable …with teams losing the games they should win and winning the games they should lose …that I suspect the AP voters are just throwing out guesses.

I wasn’t trying to defend the AP rankings, I know they’re often whackadoodle. I just don’t know why people are so concerned about something so irrelevant.

Just something to talk about
I guess if you don’t want to talk about that then you shouldn’t click that thread

The only team I care about in the polls is UK. We are the highest ranked 6 loss team. Way above Kansas who is a 6 loss team. I could care less where TN is ranked because they are not going to ever go to a Final Four. Let them enjoy their ranking as we enjoy our win in Knoxville.

First it's something to talk about. Second Tenn had no business moving up 4. If it bothers you don't engage move along
