Great Beer....the sequel

@AustinTXCat or anyone else that would like to chime in, have any of you had experience with a home brewing kit? I know there’s no way I could make a beer that tastes like these professional breweries, but I thought it would be fun to give it a try and see what I could come up with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have any advice?!

I've got very limited home-brew experience, but believe @HymanKaplan + @phyrekat + a few others have considerably more.

I’ve never done any of it before but was looking at recipe “clones” and they have all sorts of recipes of great beers. I’d never expect it to taste even similar at first but after some trial and error, I could have great tasting beers year round. I’m excited and want to try it but don’t know the first thing about it. I’m sure if I do some research and put in some effort I can get it going but didn’t know if it was actually worth it or not.

New Belgium "The Hemperor": 7% ABV. Very strong on the nose. Most earthy. The smell alone can turn some folks completely off. It's an acquired taste, no doubt. Nice seeing such great beer on the market.

Had another NE IPA last night , Voodoo Ranger Juicy haze . Very good for sure . Saw an article where NE style IPA's are the hottest style on the market this spring . And from looking around a bunch I agree . Several on tap at Mellow Mushroom in Bowling Green , several Patties and Pints in my hometown area . ( Ashland )

Cincy opened the 5th brewery in Over the Rhine called 3 Points Urban Brewery. Sam Adams was the first but they finally have plans for a tasting room, beer garden. Can't wait to try both breweries. This town is going to have over 30 of them much sooner than later it seems and of course I'm including NKY.
:cheers2:

Anyone go to Alltech brew party tasting thing ? in lex last weekend ? I walked thru on friday before they actually opened . Looked like a dang good lineup .

Finally braved the heat and ventured over to Oskar Blue's -- Austin. Located 2 miles from me. Drank the Backlands Barleywine. Only offered in Austin, as it utilizes local malts. 10.4% ABV. Exceptional.

Also worked on Stone I'm Peached. 8.8% ABV. Fruity peach taste is well masked. Excellent summer beer.

They put a lot of money into the Pendleton area of OTR in Cincy. A new brewery, restaurants, bars to add to the art galleries, new apartments, Jack Casino and such. Basically where boarded up buildings were just a year or 2 ago. After work we went to 3 Points Urban Brewery for a nice IPA early then a Vienna lager to close out the night. In between had a brisket sammich and West Side ESB at Luicious Q then a couple tasty Jackie O's sours at Nation. Very cool on a stormy, humid night.

4th Tap Kung Fu Robot. 7%. A bit harsh. Hoppy. More of a junior double IPA.

I have not been to rock house or pivot. I like nacho bait alot but I'm a big fan of smoked and pepper infused beers. Actually I like any beer that has a little spin on it or is infused with something. It just changes the dynamic. That's why I like nacho bait. Cougar bait is a solid blonde but to me blondes, pillsners, helles all taste similar at all breweries I go to. But when you infuse them it can change everything
Looking at Mirror Twin and Pivot this next trip come July 3rd. I'm bringing my folding bike. :sunglasses:

May also hit up Alltech's, and perhaps a West Sixth return.

So where in Lexington has the best selection of a "Make your own 6'er?" I usually do Kroger but it's been seriously lacking lately.
