GOLF thread

Actually trump might have the balls to play heads up, but I’m sure I’d have to give him the girlie tees.

Looking to sell/trade my Callaway Apex Pro 16s and get a set of Titleist 716 AP2s. Anyone happen to know of a place doing trade in bonuses at the moment? I thought there'd be some stuff going on for Father's Day, but I'm not seeing a lot. If I can't get a solid amount with a trade in bonus, looks like I'll be heading to Ebay or Golf Club Traders on FB.

Welp, said f*ck it and traded them in. Just didn't want to wait. Traded them in at Global Golf for $384. Bought a set of "very good" condition 716 AP2s for $481, so it cost me a little less than $100 total. Worth it not to have to bother with the hassle of selling them.

Really thought selling might take a while since mine were 4 degrees flat and the 4 iron shaft is a KBS C-taper while the others are KBS Tour. And the AP2s were 25% off, plus an extry 9% off, so felt like I needed to strike while the iron was hot. These are also 4-GW.

To answer your question, BBdK, I actually really liked them; but, I'm not a good enough ball striker to hit them as consistently as I wanted to. They felt amazing, but an off day really kills the distance on them. A buddy of mine bought some AP2s and I hit them at the range last night and immediately fell in love.

Getting an update fitting next week. My guess is the AP2's will be in my future since their a close comparison to my current irons. Love my current Mizuno's but the grooves are about gone. Have my eye on the Mizuno MP-18's but not sure I want to go the blade route.

Ap2’s and apex pros are almost identical as far as playability from my experience. Sounds like the Indian imo.

Thanks for the info, but I hit them back to back plenty of times last night. AP2s are significantly more forgiving in comparison for me.

I’m starting to turn into a tinkerer, but if I hit these irons really high, anyone see any issue with having the lofts turned down to the AP1 lofts? In theory it seems like it might be the best of both worlds. But I’m sure I’m missing something.

Try tinkering with ball position and angle of attack first rather than bending your irons would be my suggestion.

Nah. This is all you need:

Why would you want to pick your ball up out of the rough and proceed to drop the ball back into the same rough? I don’t get it

Probably did not make it clear, only applies if you can't find the ball in the rough but everyone in the group KNOWS/AGREES it is not OB or in the heather, so you are just dropping another. Obviously, if you do manage to find it, you have to play it. Greatly speeds up play, I guess we could all be PGA pros, and spend the time to look for a ball for 5 minutes, then go back and play another shot from where you hit it, but then rounds would take about six hours and we would all be divorced.

The rough has calmed down a bit, not quite as brutal, but still have to hit a lot of wedges back into the fairway, just to get it back in play.

So, in the Eli, are the guys who are not playing in the championship division hitting from tees way closer than normal. There was a discussion last year in here and that's what it seemed like?

Yes. And the past few years, in the interest of pace-of-play, many of those tees have been located on the women's tee boxes. It's seemed to help, too.

Completely different course, but still a good test for most people under Eli conditions.

-UKO wouldn't break 215 in the Eli. :100points:

-Anyone use MG Gloves? I'm a golf glove whore (and snob), basically only Titleist will do. I rotate anywhere from 4-6 gloves on any given round mid-summer, b/c if I have any moisture at all I lose complete confidence in my swing.

Never understood why all these different gloves put all that black crap all over, claiming it helps when all it does is get slick.

Anyways, these MG Gloves are 100% Cabretta leather, and $6 a pop. Not quite Titleist feel, but pretty damn close, and at that price I'm a big fan.

Have been using MG Gloves for a good while. Great gloves especially for the money. Highly recommend.

I’m not 100% sure I wouldn’t play better from the golds, assuming I’m still dumb enough to keep hitting driver on the blues. But I’ve got virtually no shot to win money in the championship flight, so not a chance.

If it was my home course that I grew up on, I’d definitely play golds. Otherwise, false. And there are probably 15 other guys that play golds that have no business doing so.

I've contemplated jumping out of Champ many times, but now that I'm back playing regularly I'm too proud. I've carded a 73 on Sunday each of the last 2 years, which is by far the tougher setup. Killa & I both shot 73 last year, and there was only 1 better score iirc -- I just can't get it done on Saturday. :/

Most of those people play Gold so that they can play in the Shootout Friday evening, which is the most fun part of the entire weekend.

If I were in your position and I grew up on that course, there's zero chance I'd play the blues. You know how good you can potentially shoot on that course, because you've played it all your life...and it's impossible to let go of that.

If Prime Tiger Woods was playing at my home course I'd declare championship flight.

*For me, it's almost worth wasting the entire tournament just to play in the shootout. I played in it one year when they allowed some people from outside the championship flight to play, and it was incredibly fun. Andy Roberts chipped in on a chip off on #3 to eliminate me and Killa at the same time, IIRC. Bastard.

Got treated like crap at Canewood last Sunday.

9:50 tee, 3 of us. None of us are great but we play fast. Hit a logjam at the 3rd. Three carts, a lot of nonsense (two kids rolling around in a cart and not playing, looking for balls etc.)

At the turn we took 20 minutes to put some distance between us.

We tee off on 10 and we're moving up for our second shot and a course ranger drives up and said, we've got a tournament starting and we have a 3 hour limit for 18 holes.

One, that seems like a pretty short time limit (which I didn't see posted anywhere), two, if they're going to enforce that, why didn't they have people out there moving people along? Three, the tourney foursome behind us hit INTO/past us while we're talking to this guy.

They asked us to move up 3 holes. I went and picked up my ball. And one of the tourney players asked if I'd seen his ball. I said no and we moved up. On our way to 13 I threw his ball into an adjacent yard.

"Thanks for letting us know about the tourney. As we're not playing slow and have only played 9, I'm gonna go ahead and hit this approach and keep playing. Have a good one!"

They should’ve never let you all go out if they expected you to play in 3 hours. They took your money, you should get to play all 18 without hassle as long as you are playing a reasonable pace. Sounds like they had no idea wtf they were doing.

However, it was also a dick move by you to steal that guy’s ball, incredibly so if it was an individual tournament and not a scramble.

I would think they thought they were supposed to go since the tourney had started. This assumes you’re off to the side talking to the ranger and not in then middle of the fairway. If you were in the middle of the fairway then yeah, they were dicks. But it sounds odd a guy would intentionally hit into you and then go ask you if you’ve seen his ball.

You hit into me I'm going to wave at you and point to where I'm throwing your ball.

Btw, how many of you carry pistols in the course? I may be the only guy in FL that doesn't.

We went out a few weeks ago with one of my buddies that is decent/kinda shitty like I am and my neighbor who is 300lb, hits left and cross-handed and would be happy to break 100.

Third hole backs up and it's a Par 3. We're on the tee and these obnoxious Boston cawksuckers literally walk up to the tee with us like we're all buds. I hate people so that's f'ing annoying and weird. One of them is an old man and he's loud-mouthed like his two younger cawksucker buds. The big guy gets up and the old man just starts dressing him down. "Oh my gawd! How do you stand like that?! Oh my gawd! Who taught you golf!?" Basically, this old man is Jim Calhoun with zero f'ing filter.

My buddy hits, of course it's a 40 yard duff, and I think he's about to hit this old man. He says some pretty tame stuff like "Do I know you?" and storms off.

They kept back most of the round except they hit into us 3 times and did drive up every hole screaming at each other and just being your typical rude, yankee cawksucker miserable excuse for a person types.

I had enough on 16. They hit it right past our cart. My buddy was going to hit it back at them but chickened out because he didn't want to hit it fat and give them more reason to be loud an obnoxious. So, plan B. We grabbed that cawksucer's ball, the other ones that didn't make it, waved at them and threw them in the water basically begging them to do something about it. Nope. They just sat there like the little yankee cawksuckers they are.

My rant is summed up like this. You're not motherf'ing Tiger Woods and if you ever start to think you're entitled to fairway someone is on, no matter what you think, you're simply just another yankee cawksucker that probably deserves to have your teeth knocked out of your mouth.

Very well said.

All the rounds I have played only once has someone hit into my group on the fairway on purpose. Course was super slow. Groups of 4 everywhere. We had no where to go. Group of 4 (all were drunk) comes up wanting to play through and we tell them they are not going anywhere because there are at least 3-4 groups of 4 in front of us and we were not letting them through. They go back to their carts pissed off and we all hit and go to our balls. Next thing I know I hear a cling and ball coming right at us. My buddy (ex combat Marine) is not one to be messed with. He literally ran back to them at the tee box and about knocked the guy out. Other 3 just stood there knowing their buddy had just made a big mistake. We had to call the Ranger out to have them escorted off the course. Found out they had destroyed a hole on the previous green when one of them got pissed and banged his putter against it. Group behind them saw it. Main reason they got kicked out. Complete d-bags. Funniest part was that he took the guy's ball he hit at us and threw at them as they were leaving.

Have had some other balls hit at me, but they were pure accidents and the person who hit it either did not realize I was there (could not see me) or just got a great shot and did not expect it to reach me. They always have come up and apologized and that was the end of it.

If it's accidental (which is usually the case -- blind tee shot, cart path, someone who is just clueless, etc) I always go with putting their ball on a tee just to let them know they screwed up.

If it's a buddy or someone I know (non tournament) I'll just step on the ball, and make sure to turn around with the bird when they arrive to it.

Now that I think about it, I'm honestly not sure I've ever had anyone hit into me where I felt it was an intentional/malicious act. I'm not sure how I'd respond, but it likely wouldn't be pretty.

I was remembering this dork at Chastain in Atlanta. It's the busiest course in the state and gets pretty slow/crowded if you tee off anytime after 7:30am.

We're standing in plain view, with some chick trying to sell you raffle tickets, with a marshal waiting on a par 3 tee. Right next to it is a downhill par 5. It's not the biggest miss to hit at or near this tee. But, you can see everyone near the green and this guy hits his shot that just whizzes right between two of us.

The problem is, he says nothing even as he walks up. No sorry, my bad, just tries to sneak past us like we didn't almost get smashed by his terrible shot. When he finally says something, he looks right at us and asks us why we're standing there. I lose it. Just get up in his face and dogcuss the shit out of him and my buddies are cracking up/not sure if I'm going to hit this guy with my p wedge.

He grabs his ball, moves about 30 feet closer to the green he's on and doesn't even look or say another word. I was wound up because the rangers out there will tell you to keep pressing on the guys in front of you when it's either waiting or hitting into them. They just book too many f'ing people and give no fvcks about pace of play or the experience. But, it's a really fun track.

I'm actually surprised some of you haven't had more issues. Maybe I'm just a target. There's a course in downtown Marietta with a button to push to signal for the guys on the tee to go. Just me and one buddy waiting behind these two guys on the tee. We know they knew there wasn't any chance the guys that just hit were out of the way and the light was red. One of the losers hits. It's really f'ing steep downhile dogleg right. So, we're just shaking our heads and about 3 mins go by and this cart starts to appear.

The guy is maybe 5'7", not built, not intimidating in any capacity but GD was he the maddest mofo I've ever seen on a golf course. He starts laying into these two guys, asking them if they're f'ing colorblind, why are they suck rude pricks and calling them any name he can think off. The guys getting berated glance back at us and we're laughing hysterically. The other guy yelling leaves.

The 2 guys turn to us and say "can you believe that guy?"

At the same time, my buddy and I said you hit in to them.

I'm not as quick tempered as I used to be but I'll be GD if I'm going to just let some asshole hit a golf ball 100 mph at me and not say a word about it. It's pretty enraging.
