GOLF thread

U.S. AM at Cherry Hills qualifying leaderboard. Top 64 move on to match play. Second day.

Justin Tereshko who played at Transy and is now EKU's golf coach is right on the cut line and goes out later today. He also won the KY Am and KY Open this year. Guy is on fire.

I was paired with Tereshko in a 2 man scramble and somehow in the course of discussion during the day, i found out he beat Xander Schuaffele 7-and-6 in the 2014 US Amateur, which i thought was a cool fact.

Winning the Kentucky open and Kentucky amateur in the same year has only been done like 3 times before: once by JB Holmes and another by Jodie Mudd

He is in great company.

Was following along last night and Tereshko was in prime position to make the top 64. Think he bogeyed 3 straight holes on 15,16,17 before a birdie at 18 that had him back in for a few minutes. The cut then moved.

Did notice one player from Louisville made it. J.M. Butler, looks like he played at Trinity and now at Auburn.

Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.

Can someone tell me how Lucas Glover can possibly win the FedEx Cup without having played in any of the 4 Majors this year? (Unless I missed one) Seems that the scoring system needs to be tweaked if that is still possible.

A few guys who have won it did not have sterling major results the year they won the fed ex cup. Unless you just want that to be a requirement to be in majors to win it, then im not sure it matters.

He just got hot at the right time. It’s like any sports playoffs, it won’t usually identify the best player, just the one playing the best during this period.

I give Glover credit though- he had to win to get in and did, and now he’s in prime position to contend.

His results the last 2 months is why. The majors carries extra points, but they don't have a "play to qualify" label in terms of getting into the FedEx$$.

JT missed 3 cuts at majors, plus the Memorial and the 3M, and was one stroke from getting into the top 70. Had JT made just one more cut, then he wouldn't have been on the ropes.

Well he is paired with Rory the next two days so will be interesting to see how he performs

From Billy Walters book that comes out next week:

I listened to his interview on NLU and went back and forth on feeling bad for Walters (especially with him losing his daughter) and feeling like he was blaming everyone else for where he ended up. He kept saying it wasn’t anyone’s business how much Phil bet but then included it all in a book. It seemed pretty obvious he was mad at Phil for not testifying on his behalf and used the book to get back at him.

Given the importance of the event I think that's probably the best final back 9 performance I've ever seen. Eight 3s and one 4.
I think Johnny Miller once shot 63 at the US Open at Oakmont to win.

Seems like he mentioned that once or twice when he was a TV commentator. Am I wrong?

Well, in his defense, i doubt he watched that round, or any of us have watched that round. He does say he's ever seen, not that Miller mentioned it or that he saw one or two highlights.

No you're right. 1973. I would have been 13 but I'm pretty sure I didn't watch.

Thanks.

Great day Sunday for golfers with Ky connections: Vincent Norrman, Barbasol champ, shoots 65 to win Irish Open, beating Shane Lowry and Rory in the process, and Ky native Steve Flesch wins the Champions event.

Will Tiger win a regular PGA Tour event again?

Never say never with that guy but that leg is a mess. Do not doubt he has the swing to still compete but he just can’t hold up for 4 straight days having to walk the course. I think he will do some serious damage on the Champions Tour when he is able to ride a cart.

Yeah, he would first have to enter a tournament and complete all 4 rounds, before he could possibly win, that's gonna be a problem in and of itself, it looks like.

A lot to unfold here. Is he blaming Billy Walters for using and enabling him?
Is there a hidden allusion to his cheating on his wife and that's why he thanks her?
Pretty long winded. Did not make me like him more or feel one ounce of sorry here.
Now that it's come to light on a grand scale it reminds me of the old Dennis Miller line, "Everyone finds God in the back of the police car".

He didn't have to say it, but he did, and the only person he has to answer to is himself.

And if everyone who was in the back of a police car found God, what a better world we would have.
