Agree 100%, that is one rule that should be altered.

I agree to an extent, however, what/who determines a "better lie", and why is that any different than taking a drop from other areas that allow you to have a better lie? It happens often if shots end up in unplayable areas, ground under repair, etc, especially after tee shots.

Weather is beautiful right now. Been windy and hope that keeps up. Got my ticket for Sat or Sun and waiting to see if the wife comes through with a suite hookup.

I think in this case it wasn’t the lie but his foot was on a sprinkler head. Hey Billy, you hit it there. It’s not like you are taking a full swing. It’s a little chip where you barely move the club. Don’t like it at all.

Well, seems like almost all club tournaments I have been in, even when you can roll the ball, you can't move from a bunker to rough, from rough to fairway, from collar to putting green. Basically, you can drop it or even replace it but cannot change the character of the area you are playing from. Sure seems like the PGA would have a rule at least as restrictive as your typical shits and giggle scramble.

It is true that you can take a drop and end up in a better lie, but could end up worse too. But if you can just place it on the green or collar where it can be putted, that is not the greatest rule, at least IMO.

Actually, you can.....2 stroke penalty, but you can drop outside the bunker if you deem it unplayable and don't want to take a drop in the bunker (1 shot penalty)

LOL, yep, you got me there. I suppose to be technical you can take an unplayable anywhere on the course, so long as you don't mind a two shot penalty. I was just talking about free drops though, like Horschel took.

Tiger will be inducted and introduced by his daughter Sam into The World Gold Hall of Fame tonight at 7pm on the golf channel.

Golf channel now for the next few hours. Enjoy.

Super day, and you could tell they were mentally fried at the end. Great stuff, and the fact that Smith was able to see his mother for the first time in 2 years was awesome.

Best player in the mix won, I did not realize he was world top 10 before the win yesterday

What a sack on Smith. That shot on 17 was unreal.

My MIL was working the 16 tee and they told her she had to stay in case of a tie. It was right about when Smith had that nasty snap hook from the tee into the woods.

The window he took to get back in play was really narrow while even the announcers where saying they would go 45 back into the fairway. Smith not only got cleanly through but it was almost dead center perfect. When he hit his approach to 16 setting up a long birdie while Casey got screwed with the divot, you could start to see him emerge as the champ.

Then that shot on 17 cinched it. Took it over the water and dropped it about as good as you can for that pin location.

He champ'd up and the others cracked.

It was also lucky, there is no way in hell he was aiming 5 feet right of that pin, he said so himself on TV. But . . . all academic now.

TPC may be a course not to everyone's liking, but has a stellar list of champions for many many years, most of which have won majors; Tiger, Phil, Rory, Adam Scott, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Sandy Lyle, Sergio, Steve Elkington, Hal Sutton, Justin Thomas, etc. etc.

Smith is an elite player. I mean, he is #3 in Putting, 6th in Approach shots, 20th Tee-To-Green, 21st around the greens. Arguably has the best short game in golf right now. His driver/shots off the tee is what is holding him back (ranked 147th). Very good chance he wins a major this year.

^^^He loves Augusta, and he is peaking at the right time this year. He was the first player to ever have 4 rounds in the 60's there a couple of years ago.

Going to Hilton Head next week, staying at Sea Pines. Other than the two public courses at Sea Pines and Harbour Towne, any other good recommendations on or near HHI I could play?

The Palmetto Dunes courses are good. Like Oyster Reef as well.

Old South in Bluffton was a gem, especially compared to the price of some of the others. Atlantic Dunes is a better course than HH, in my opinion, but HH gets all the press because of the tourney.

Honestly, I think HH is overrated. Greens are tiny and eats higher HC's alive. If not for the tourney, it would be another nice coastal course with a signature lighthouse. Its nice thought but no way I would pay what they want for it. I only play these high end courses on the company's dime.

Agree....but the clubhouse and memorabilia are cool as hell, and a great restaurant overlooking #9.

For the money, I’m a huge fan of the Palmetto Hall courses when in Hilton Head. You can normally play his time of year for in the $75 range for 2 really nice tracks with personality. Plenty challenging for a vacation, nice clubhouse for relaxing, etc.

Palmetto Hall

I recommended these courses last year. Best bang for the buck. If you sign up for notifications from them, they send you deals like every other week.

Good point. I did rack up in the pro shop with some cool stuff. Restaurant/bar is top notch. Liked having a gigantic portrait of Davis Love watching over me lol

Agree on Atlantic Dunes. Fun course. More imaginative than Harbourtown.
