GOLF thread

Surprised that Schwartzel played so poorly, I guess his game has gone South since his Masters win a decade ago

-12 with 1 to go.

59 🚨 watch
I was there and have to say that's the most people around one hole I've ever seen at the Barbasol. People were really pulling for him and damn he almost made that putt!

Really nice crowd today over all I hope the weather holds off and we have a dry day for a change.

I just discovered this thread. Avid golfer here. Have been for 30 years. This has been a fun read. Only on about page 50 though.

has @drainthatub ever shown himself? I saw the no show coming 3 pages in advance

Was there yesterday, and FINALLY we had nice weather for the Barbasol, really really good crowd, biggest by far I have seen. Felt terrible for Poston, just flat gave it away on 15, and on 16, to make matters worse, his first putt was maybe halfway to the hole, and naturally 3 putted.

Couple of criticisms. Unlike the previous years, there were almost no on course concessions or bathrooms, which maybe was due to Covid, but made for a less than stellar experience unless you just wanted to hang out by the clubhouse or in the corporate tents all day, instead of going out on the course and watching the action (which my wife and I did on Sunday). Second, I wish there was some way to get fans out to the middle part of the back nine easily (maybe an on course shuttle), there is no way to get to holes 14 and 15, for example, except for walking from the 10th tee all the way around (you can get to hole 5 and 6 easily by going up and down Avenue of Champions)

Ditto on the eats and the pissers.....pretty slim.

There weren’t near enough marshals...saw quite a few pulling double duty on greens then tee boxes, and many groups did not have walking scorers. The jack legs on 5 green were jokes....couldn’t locate balls that came in from 2nd shots and had to ask the gallery, and one player even had to go back to hit his 4th when his approach (2nd) went into tall grass and couldn’t be found (no spotters)

Players continue to complain about the ongoing traffic behind 5.....they were supposed to have stopped this last year but must have forgotten given there wasn’t a tourney.

As a final word, I happened to see Brian Stuard's group pass through Saturday and Sunday, and although he is not a big star, his wife/GF is a total smoke show, wore skin tight red dress one day, and skin tight white dress the next. Sorry, no pics, because my wife was with me and if I had attempted to get one, I would be dead at the moment.

Perhaps cole854 can back me up here?

Funny story about golf wives. I went to the Buick Open one year before it got canceled up in Gran Blanc, Michigan. Jim Furyk won that year. Anyway, we decided we wanted to follow Kenny Perry on Thursday and he was paired with Jeff Sl.uman and Mark Brooks. There may have been 10 people following the group so it wasn't hard to keep track of people. There was one hot woman following them but she wasn't paying attention at all. They would hit their shots and she was reading a book the entire time and never looked up. Everyone would move and she would move and start reading her book again completely ignoring the actual shots. We were wondering why she was following the group but paying no attention to anything that was going on. There was a lull in play and she went over and started kissing on Sluman. To this day if you are "Sluman's wifeing" it means to be right in front of something and being completely oblivious to everything going on right in front of you.

That was an interesting course to watch because the entire front and back 9 ran exactly parallel to each other so you could watch 2 groups at once.

I know this is a pretty obvious post, but I highly, highly recommend a trip to Bandon Dunes. We did our trip out there 2 weeks ago and it was an incredible experience. Bandon does just about everything right, from golf, to lodging, to food, service, etc. Walking 36 a day was tough, but everyone (8 of us) managed to make it though including a couple of guys who are the opposite of in good shape. I've never played in wind like we saw out there, but overall our weather was great with no rain and very little marine layer to deal with. Nothing like playing a 200 yard shot into a 140 yard par 3 on Pacific Dunes and barely reaching the green.

Awesome.

Anyone tried using the mirror alignment putting aid? If so did it help? Right now that is my daughters biggest weakness.
Use it often. Def helps mainly to align your eyes on the ball properly. Reason you see a ton of Pros using them. Spieth uses it a lot.

1. I believe Sluman's wife is a doctor.
2. Need more details on Bandon Dunes. Where'd you fly into? Which place you stay in? Favorite course? Which is easiest to walk? Costs?

I thought it was hard to watch without fans. It's nearly impossible without 15 sponsorship logos on every player. Weird.

I think this is a legitimate question. What would you compare winning a gold medal in golf to in terms of winning another tournament?

Low. The field is really weak. I would think the players would probably rank it around 10th priority at best. The majors, WGCs, Players and probably even below The Memorial. Dustin Johnson isn't opting out of any of those tournaments just because he doesn't feel like playing.
