I’m at a loss for what Pope should do defensively. Obviously, any team would struggle without their all defensive team PG, but we don’t have a back up, either. We don’t have a single guy on the roster to man up against the quick guards we’re about to face on Auburn, Oklahoma, ole Miss, etc.
Pope went with man to man but went under every screen, even on good shooters against Tennessee and Arkansas. Quite honestly; I think we played about the same in both games, but Tenn missed their open 3s and ark didn’t. Going forward, do we continue to pack it in and hope the other team misses shots? Or do we pressure their guards, most definitely get blown by and rely on our inside guys to clean it up? I don’t have confidence in that at all.
We barely beat Tenn and we shot 50% from three; while Tenn shot 11-46! We lost to Arkansas by 10 while shooting 43% from three. If we have a bad shooting night we’re going to get absolutely destroyed going forward. We have to shoot 50% from three and have the other team miss a ton of shots.
I think I’d go to a junk defense… and throw some box and 1 , 1-3-1, 3-2, whatever I could think of and see what works and then slow the game down to limit possessions and hope we’re hot in those limited possessions.
This is the least confident I’ve felt all season. If butler stays hurt, I think we finish 8-10 in the SEC.
