Finebaum- sumrall talk

To piggy back off of OSU staff…Brian Hartline a name that will be rising on some radars.

He has played a pretty big roll in their recruiting and offense. Specifically passing game and skill talent. All those WRs that end up going first round that all world freshman this year…Hartline.

Taking Sumrall off the table for these hypotheticals. Which candidates would you be most favorable to?

If Ryan Day had lost to Penn St. his seat would have been boiling hot. He's not out of the woods yet depending on how they fare come playoff time. If for some reason OSU were to let go Ryan Day, would he be an acceptable candidate to replace Stoops? Would he be looking for a bigger gig? 63-9 overall record. I think that's the best among active coaches percentage wise right now if I'm not mistaken.

I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about James Franklin, but if Penn St. were to let him go would he be accepted here? What he did at Vandy was pretty miraculous, so he has SEC chops. could do worse i would think.

Neither would be likely to happen, but in a scenario that see either of them losing their job, would they be worth a look.

I hope James Franklin would be a “no,” but you make a valid point here.

Because other SEC programs ain’t like UK. They like to win. History usually repeats itself in the sense that you pretty well know by the end of the second year if it’s gonna work out at a bigger program like Auburn.
Years ago I looked at the record of SEC coaches to see if one could predict who would be successful after only two years. BigBlue1992 is correct. Coaches who don't show a two win improvement in their second year are very unlikely to survive to year 5. This is especially true for coaches who take over a losing program.

Stoops isn’t going to retire man lol. That’s a pipe dream. And even if that was something he was considering I doubt he’d want to end on this note.

Watching Sumrall build a contender at Auburn would hurt man. We need to lock that young potential and fire up. Stand on what Stoops was able to build and fly even higher.

Bob Stoops did, and his program was in much better shape.

Mark's marriage ended. His kids have to be close to being adults if not already. There's not much anchoring him in Lexington. You can cite his salary, but it's not like he's not already rich. He can walk from the money without being stressed about it. Plus, he's already demonstrated that he's actively trying to get out (Texas A&M).

Stranger things have happened, and Mark's time in Lexington may be upside down.

If Sumrall is off the table, my first call is to Glenn Schumann

I think he would be a good, maybe better hire. He is going to take a job soon, but here is the deal with Schuman. If he is successful and Bama offered he is gone, it's his dream job. Don't think Bama hires him without head coaching experience, they tried to get him as DC a couple times.
