Finebaum- sumrall talk

I personally like Will stein from Oregon. But sumrall is really good choice as well

He would be an excellent choice for head coach, don't think he leaves for a coordinators job. Phil Knight will keep him on at whatever it takes. Now if Oregon wins it al, Knight will be happy, but don't think Stein will leave to be a coordinator, and will be patient until a job he wants becomes an option. I don't know where that would be.

If stoops leaves we have the money for sure. I don’t know if Kentucky is a big enough job or not.

Sumrall has Kirby characteristics. We can’t let him take another SEC job.

Would be epic failure on Mitch part
Yeah, people keep saying "can't afford the buyout" but at this point, can you afford not to?

Your football program, even here, is one of your biggest if not the biggest revenue generator in sports. If seats at Kroger Field start emptying, you can't afford not to act.

I personally think Napier is starting to gain his sea legs and showing signs that he will be a very good coach. I think it would be a mistake for the Gators to cut him loose right now. Some new coaches can flip the switch right away others take 2 or 3 years to install their system, get the staff they want as well as the rooster. But that's their issue, we have our own. :(

I don't know if i would say UK isn't a big enough job, it's a P4 school and paying top 10 money ro head coach. Don't know much about him other than Oregon gets the offensive players they need and score alot of points. Sumrall is an excellent candidate, been successful at some smaller stops, but so was Napier and Scott Frost. Schuman is young, 34 I think, wants to be a head coach, but waiting on right job, I have no idea who that will be, he is elite recruiter and position coach. As a young analysis he sat in on Saban's staff meeting and helped with gameplans. Going to hate to lose him, but he will be a head coach soon.

I believe you are correct, Billy is very smart, don't let that accent fool you. If Lagway doesn't get hurt I don't want to think about the results of our game. But I dont know if UF will give him another year. With Lagway likely done for the year, according to UF reports, getting 2 more wins could be tough.

No scoop on my part. Just watching, listening, and reading tea leaves. I don’t think Stoops wants another year here. I think he initiates conversation about finding a way out of Lexington with a nice severance package in place of the buyout. I think this occurs very soon after UL game. I think he is a decent guy who’s going to hold the program hostage when he doesn’t really want to be here.
I could be totally wrong. He may wait for job offers and if they don’t come, keep getting paid to go through the motions. I just don’t see him doing that.
The other possibility is that he’ll view this season as an outlier, and come back with new fire. I just don’t see anything that leads me to believe that any fire in his belly is anything other than spicy food.

Why would auburn fire freeze so fast….he’s been there but 2 years after this season
Because other SEC programs ain’t like UK. They like to win. History usually repeats itself in the sense that you pretty well know by the end of the second year if it’s gonna work out at a bigger program like Auburn.

He can retire, and it sure seems like he is miserable

Retirement is the route we need to pitch. I honestly think hed jump at it because he doesn't like the new environment and who could blame him. This lets him stay around the program and keeps intact all the infrastructure he created for us. Plus lets him maintain a marketing presence near his bourbon brand.

Its the perfect scenario.

Napier might garner some benefit of the doubt at this point losing his top two QB's like he has.

Whether it's retirement or whatever, I just hope his departure is an amicable one. Like him or not, he deserves a place in the ring of honor eventually for what he's done to elevate our program to where we have the kinds of expectations we do now. he does deserve to be able to come back down the road and be honored, either on his own or with his bowl teams or whatever. yes it's time for a change, but that change doesn't have to be a messy divorce.

I see what you mean but brohm turned down UL the first time after only being at Purdue for a year. I hate using that as an example lol.
Is Louisville a more prestigious job than Purdue though?

I think Brohm was angling for bigger jobs than Louisville at the time. He was briefly connected to the Tennessee opening, but it didn't happen. After nothing bigger than Purdue came to fruition, that's when the Louisville job became the right opportunity at the right time for him personally.

Because like UofL to us, they have Bama right down the road. The pressure to win and compete there is insane. That's also a decently historical program (like most SEC teams).

I been saying for a long time that CMS would retire at UK, but thought it would be a couple years, not now. I think that is the only way he negotiates a buyout. How many here would tell their employer I will take a smaller buyout if they were getting fired? But he could say he would walk away for X%, but staying and taking full buyout if 2 sides don't agree. UK doesn't really have any bargaining power here if CMS wants to be a harda$$ about the buyout

Carousel season Tis upon us. Will be interesting as always to see how things shake out.

Not sure it’s a wrap on Napier just yet. He’s got real talent on that team. I feel like a case could be made for one more year especially at the risk of losing some of said talent, especially lagway and that freshman RB.

If Gators don’t have a guarantee from their top guy, I think you error on saving the buyout money spend it on portal and retaining talent.

Kif I think is in a good spot. Not sure why he hops at this point. He has built his own thing in Oxford. He’s king of the castle. Makes all the money he could want, has all the resources he needs, they’ve embraced portal spending. Most importantly he, his quirks and ego oddly work in Oxford. Why go to Florida? They have bigger egos and more unrealistic expectations.

Sumeral most likely gets a big boy P2 gig before this one opens up.

Guy from Oregon is in a position he can probably hang out and pick his job when it opens. Doesn’t have to jump on the first offers.

Cignetti, will be interesting to watch him. Conventional wisdom says being older and no longer in climbing ladder mode he could stay put. Conventional wisdom also says money, resources talk too.

CMS is he burnt out or just burnt out here. Is there a market for him? 12 years in how much longer does he and do we hold out hope that something breaks in all of our favor towards taking that next step to really competing, sniffing 8-9 wins consistently?
