Next month, there will be another transfer window. As inbound transfer candidates become known, we can discuss them here.

Here are some uncommitted football players, currently in the NCAA transfer portal, who received scholarship offers from UK coming out of hs. Most (not all) transfers Coach Stoops has accepted received UK offers but went elsewhere coming out of hs. I am not suggesting that I know where these guys are headed. Judge for yourselves whether there is an obvious fit. Until outbound transfers declare their intentions, Stoops has only a couple of open scholarships to work with next month.

Anthony Booker, DL (MD)
Deangelo Carter, DL (MN)
Michael Daugherty, DB (LSU)
Josh DeBerry, DB (BC)
Josh Simmons, OL (SD St)
Shone Washington, DL (GA)

Shone WAhington hS been hurt his entire time at UGA. He could very well hit the portal because he has been posed by some under classes. Good player who just can't catch a break

Shone Washington is already in the portal. He entered on March 16 and is still uncommitted.

You are right, wants to play and apparently wasn't happy about getting passed by a frosh last fall. Had left the team before entering the portal. Not sure how much he played last fall and wasn't going to play much this fall.

Simmons is listed in the portal as an interior offensive lineman. FWIW. IDK why. Looks like he was a RT at SD St.
Yeah, I noticed that. He was listed as a guard coming out of high school but moved to RT his RS freshman year at SD state. I don’t think we need a guard in the portal and we have two committed for ‘24 with the likelihood of a third so I hope if we are looking at this kid that he’s a tackle.

Agree, we clearly don't need more OGs. I know Simmons was well regarded as a hs player in CA. At the time, UK offered him. I don't know if he can play RT in the SEC, but there are no other uncommitted offensive linemen in the portal right now that would be of interest to our coaches.

I just stumbled across this article which makes it appear that the portal window has been moved up to 4/15:

I googled it earlier but I missed your updated article. That's interesting. Thank you! Makes it all the more interesting that no UK players have announced a jump into the portal so far this spring, but I guess the next wave is coming soon.

Great point about UK players standing point. I’m very excited as well to learn that the portal opens this weekend. Hopefully we will have good news soon.

Hopefully. Sometimes this takes a little bit of time to play out. I assume there will be one more inbound OT, although it is not at all clear yet who that might be.

Just saw a mention and short vid of an ILB named Jurriente Davis who has visited UK. He's by way of Hutchinson CC, MTSU and Jackson St. Guy can really run and hit and he sounds really, really hungry. Could be incoming.
ILB and QB 2 are the two highest priorities for me. Then the RT position. And lockdown corners always concern me till they prove themselves. If we could get some solid experience at those positons I would feel better. Have to think of every position of needing two great players. Those are the positions I think we are the thinnest at.

Yep we desperately need depth at ILB. It’s Wallace, Jackson, Thrower pretty much. Fulton has never seen a defensive snap. Then we have FR coming in but another decent player who could also help on ST would be huge.

The first known UK activity for the next transfer window involves Jurriente Davis, a LB leaving Jackson State in the portal. Davis just visited UK. He might match up with UK's obvious need for experienced depth at the interior LB positions.

After looking again at some recent remarks by Zach Yenser, I am even more convinced now that Coach Stoops will take another OT out of the portal. But, whoever that will be, he isn't in the portal yet, I'm pretty sure. Let's recall how Dare Rosenthal joined our team late in the process in 2021.

Davis similar size to Jacquez Jones. Looks like he may be an aggressive tackler on film. Was a first team all JUCO and has two years left to play.

This is interesting. QB Hayden Wolff is now in the transfer portal. Wolff is from Venice, FL, and has excellent size, length, and arm talent. Wolff received one CB prediction for UK from "transfer portal expert" Clint Brewster before signing with ODU on 2/22/18. Wolff attended a summer camp at UK and was offered by Darin Hinshaw on 7/19/17. About 6 months later, he named UK as one of his finalists before signing with ODU during the February signing period. That was shortly after Terry Wilson enrolled at UK for the spring semester. The optics suggest Wolff was very interested in UK and may have waited for a committabe offer, perhaps losing that opportunity after Wilson transferred from juco and enrolled at UK. At the time, UK needed an immediate starter for the following September.

ODU is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. In 2022, Wolff threw for 2,908 yards and 18 TDs (6 picks) for a 127.9 rating as ODU's starter. He was sacked 34 times, which gives us a clue why ODU finished 3-9 despite Wolff's performance. Somewhere along the line, Wolff redshirted and probably also picked up an extra season of eligibility because of COVID. So Wolff was a sophomore in 2022, and he fits the profile for a capable QB with arm talent who could back up Devin Leary in 2023 and then return to UK to compete for the 2024 starting job.

I am not suggesting Wolff is talking with UK's staff now. IDK that. But I could see the potential for mutual interest. And I am not suggesting Wolff would necessarily start for us in 2024. But he has enough talent and experience to compete for the job. Our coaches recruited him when he was in hs and that he fits the profile of a 2023 backup QB who will have additional eligibility in 2024. Looking at Wolff's size and 2022 stats in the Sun Belt Conference, he is probably better (and certainly more experienced) than our current QBs other than Leary. Something to watch, maybe.

Before someone brings this up, taking Wolff out of the portal would not necessarily push the Wade twins to transfer out. Keaton Wade is an established member of the defensive playing rotation with a likely starting job in 2024, and and is happy at UK. Although clearly more experienced, Wolff is not clearly better or more athletic than Destin Wade. But Destin has a couple more years of eligibility than Wolff. So, if I was Destin, Wolff would probably not scare me off. Meanwhile, our football team would be much better off next fall with an experienced backup QB who can make all the throws.

Don't think he has 2 years. He played 2 seasons at CC and played over 4 games. 1 year at MTSU and 1 year at JSU. That would only leave a covid year

I really liked the Davis film. The guy can run, hits hard, plays angry. To read some comments, he thinks he has something to prove. I love guys who play with that chip on their shoulder. This looks like a good match, hope it works out.

All other things being equal, Davis appears to be exactly what Stoops and White are looking for to provide experienced depth at the inside LB positions.
True, and Davis would be a nice bridge for the 2 incoming freshman, Brown/Godfrey. Those 2, given the chance to develop and grow into the position, could turn out to be 2 of the best LBs UK's ever had, their future is exciting.

The article I saw said he started out at Hutchinson in 2020, then MTSU in 2021 and JSU in 2022. Said he had two years to play at JSU so figured he had the year left at JSU plus the covid year. I thought he was in JUCO one year. Anyway, that is just one article I was going by so you could be right.

Hopefully that's right. Rowland said he played 19 and 20 at Hutchinson. He had numbers for each year. He was a '19 recruit.

I am probably wrong then. What I read just said 20 at Hutchinson. Thought I read he had two left. Anyway, thanks for correcting me if not right. He does look like the kind of explosive ILB we need for this season to complement what we have.

Godfrey will be a tremendous player for us. I need to see more of Brown, but it has been said elsewhere that he has a great motor.

How can a guy who entered CFB in 2018 be eligible 7 seasons later, 2024? Seems like he could qualify for Social Security by then. Thanks.

If you haven already heard it, listen or read CMS presser from yesterday.

He mentioned the April Transfer Portal dates and was asked about players leaving and if he would be shopping the portal.

His response was he was meeting with players this week and would expect that a few might transfer looking for more playing time but even if no one left he and the staff would be "poking around" the Portal to see what is out there to fill out their remaining scholarships available.

I am paraphrasing. Here it is if you want to listen.

Thanks very much. I heard it. Evidently Coach Stoops is not expecting any of our current players to enter the portal. My guess is that a few will leave, but not as many as normally leave in the spring in most years. The biggest factor that generates transfer departures is what we can call the "Beau Allen factor". The player has talent, but not as much talent as the starter at his position. He wants to get onto the field and play so much that he is willing to relocate and maybe leave the Power 5 level of competition. I have noticed UK's coaches have become more reluctant to name starters in the spring, and I think the transfer portal is the reason. Players therefore feel they are in the competition and can return in August to compete for playing opportunities. This is just one way the portal has changed coaching behavior. But if I am guessing right, you can never completely manage things in a way that discourages players like Beau Allen, Jared Casey, and KD McDaniel from rethinking their original decision once they run into a challenge for playing time. Some go into spring practice focused on moving up the depth chart and then feel frustrated if they can't see it happening for them. We lose players that way, but then we gain players through the portal for the same reason. Times have changed.

At a minimum, I expect another OT, another ILB, and another CB. Possibly another QB, WR, and/or placekicker depending on number of available scholarships. JMO.
