Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

Didn't read the whole thread, so I am not sure if this has been asked: is this the reason why Cal is recruiting Knox as a SG as Knox's dad mentioned?

Just wondering.

I guess people are up in arms over the broken So called "promise" Diallo made to return next year which is now in limbo.

If Diallo stays in the draft (which I doubt), I'll be disappointed, but I'd be more pissed that he technically didn't "play" here. I want his name associated with the UK program for years to come. He's going to be a great player. Put him in during a meaningless SEC game. Heck, Kyrie played 7 games at Duke and is now considered a full-fledged Coach K disciple.

Food for thought: Anyone think Briscoe's "League or Bust" "I hate school" attitude this year wasn't good for the team? Not a good leader
I didn't think he had that attitude..where did you see It? A lot of our 1 year guys no they are leaving before the year is over, that mean they are all bad leaders?

And guess who is the coach who brought them here? Without him, we aren't even in the same universe of success we have had since he has been here.
Coach K and Uconn both have 2 titles during this time frame and even UNC cheat has one and a buzzer beater away from 2. Their rosters have not turned over like ours

Sorry I dont give a like to every post like your buddy brianpoe. Answer for what???

Well, you told him, "you, sir, are an idiot" and he simply asked you for an explanation as to why you said that as there was no clue in your post for your remark. I simply stated that he had made a good point that no one has yet to answer (how could Cal turn down the #1 SG and what would you have done differently). What a "like" has to do with anything is pointless, not sure why you even brought that into the discussion unless it makes you jealous or angry because he didn't give one to you for calling him an idiot??? Not sure why I'm even answering you as just about every post you have put up here has been very negative.

You can't be this stupid. I tell you what, when Cal leaves, you should probably leave with him. You obviously care about two things, winning and John Calipari. Anyone who cared about college athletics, The University of Kentucky or fiscal responsibilities of tax payer money would care about this. Cal fits none of these.

What is the right thing to do?

Overall good decision. You guys think if someone may offer you the job of your dreams you wouldn't inquire about it?...ok.

If anyone's butthurt I assume it's bc they think the players decisions should revolve around them.

Meanwhile, no word out of Joel Berry yet, who just won a National Championship at UNC, and this is last day to declare. I guess he's coming back for his Senior year. Will probably be strong POY candidate next year like Mason. Makes no sense that he wouldn't at least test the waters.

If we can get Knox, then this won't really bother me. Was never really invested in Diallo. Of course I want him to stay, but......

If you want to ffffaaarrr cccaaallllll, trueblueKentucky.com

I'm not going to get upset over it. I personally think he comes back because he will be drafted a hell of a lot higher next yr.

Come on Brian, you're a smart guy. Diallo was pretty clear about his plans before he got here. At best he was 50/50 to play next season. I actually think Cal got played with Diallo refusing to play this season. What we're told isn't necessarily the whole truth. He was too big a risk to leave in this draft to gamble with him. Cal decided to gamble and he's almost certain to get burnt. No, I would not have been interested in Diallo. The red flags were all around him.

His commitment put up an obstacle for Cal to recruit another top 2 guard. You know how it works. Once you have a top guy in a position, you rarely get a second guy. Getting Diallo may really hurt us in the long run, and again, the gamble was known.

This isn't really testing the waters. The NBA already knows all about him. If he can show he has improved in shooting and team play he WILL be a top 20 pick. The other thing everyone knew before he came to UK was that he said he will do what is best for his family. He is about to have 5-6 million guaranteed waived in front of him. Momma is gonna be taken care of.

Cal gambled and we all lost, Cal, the team, UK and the BBN. On the bright side, at least Diallo will come out of this a winner.

That statement is just incorrect, the kid said publicly multiple times he was coming back.

just a month ago:

'The experience, he says, made him hungrier for next season. While he will be eligible for the NBA draft, Diallo speaks as if he's ready to lead the Wildcats in 2017-18.

"I know what the bigger goal is, so I'm just focused and trying to buckle down and get ready for next season," he said.'

Also please name the stud SG we could have gotten if not for Diallo?

Again, the #1 SG, our #1 recruit at the time. And because Cal signed him and let him commit early you guys are mad at Cal?

I understand the frustration of not having him next year. I feel the same.

But the anger is so misguided.

Hope you're right. None of Cal's tweets sound too encouraging.

Sounds like a first round pick to me

Sounds like a coach who is still actively recruiting and showing he puts his players first and supports them. Also sounds like a coach who is already marketing his kid for next year's draft, when Diallo has a legit shot at a top 15 slot in the draft.

Cal called Briscoe a guy capable of lottery if he added a jump shot; he said scouts drooled over Humphries when they saw him at the UK combine two years ago. Part of his success is based on how he promotes his players. That said, what else should Cal have tweeted, even if he felt Hami was returning?

It is never fun going into a season knowing you have no chance to win it all. Thats why when we lose as contenders, it hurts worse because you lose your whole damn roster.

I don't know why people are so upset

The kids main goal is to get to the NBA, regardless if it's this year or next. And anybody that is saying that Cal needs to go is a complete moron

Raise your hand if you want another round of Billy G, I'm guessing there is no takers out there.

Probably. However I'm not as confident as others in Diallo returning. Have we had many players "test the waters" then return?

Coach K is a better coach than Cal. Roy Williams is a better coach than Cal. Calhoun was a better coach than Coach Cal. Sorry if that offends any of you, but I"m basing it on their whole body of work.

The Ollie loss hurts a lot because Cal is most certainly a vastly superior coach to him. If UK is fully healthy I feel they win that game, same with Poy in 2015. That's probably two titles Cal most likely haves if not for injuries.

Hard to have too much of an opinion w/o knowing the convo on how he came mid-year. I doubt Cal asked for an promise but I can understand anyone feeling it should have been part of the deal.

And I am going to say that 5 months of him being here affected recruiting to some degree.
