Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

Read Diallo's statement. He talks about gathering feedback and a learning process and how this has been the plan all along.

You can't say I'm putting my name in the draft but definitely returning because then teams won't talk to you or waste their time.

He'll be back. And if not, at least he helped with Bamba and didn't cost us anything. No issue at all.

I also think all the "it just takes one team to lie to him" stuff is overblown. Doesn't happen to our guys. Cal is too connected and helps them through the process.
What are you talking about? It cost UK plenty, in recruits and money. This may hurt with Bamba as he hasn't picked us yet and thinking we had Diallo may have cost us another top 2 guard. Did that ever cross your mind?

Not even sign him. Lol. Now dude will get a completely free education anytime in his life he needs it, and for what?

You wish we didnt sign him? So lets say 50 K was spent on him for half a year since a full year scholly is like 110 K or something like that.... Well if he stays in the draft and makes millions.... we're going to get far far far more money in donations from him than was ever spent on his half year scholly. So tell me if that alone isnt worth it?

If being used is 4 final fours and a title in his first 7 years sign me up.
I want championships and he is no better than Tubby in that regard....one....if you have had the ,last talented rosters the last 7 years and have one title you really don't have much to toot your horn about. If this kid doesn't come back it will be disgraceful. I have learned to live with one and dones but if he was going to declare he should have least played. We are being used like a brothel in Louisville.

This is nothing like Lee. Diallo is a superstar in the making. I've repeatedly told everyone in multiple posts what I thought was going to happen. His statement confirmed it exactly almost exactly. I hate to be right the time, but I'm afraid I will be. I'd say he is 90% gone with the small hope that he fails to impress them in workouts.

He has already received evaluations from the NBA. He was told to work on his shot and his team play. As he said in his post, his game has really grown since he's been here. Thanking the coaches and players for helping hm chase his dreams says pretty much everything. Brian won't agree with me but I still say Cal has some explaing to do in this if Diallo leaves.

UK is NOT an NBA prep camp for guys who never intend to play here. That is exactly what I think Diallo did. He is a clever young man. He got to have his cake and eat it too.

So you would have told your #1 Guard recruit, the top SG in the class you cannot commit and enroll early?

His commitment did not cause us to lose anyone that we know of.

Again, only some of you fans would have told the #1SG we dont want you to commit.

I wish someone would just say exactly what Cal did wrong?

Our #1 recruit committed and joined the team early.

Cal told him that when he is ready to play he will play him.

The kid said multiple times I am coming back, yet everyone knew he would test the waters.

All of this blubber about Cal has some answering to do without any context or reasoning seems very shallow.

I thought it was common knowledge the kid would go test the waters? Why wouldn't he? It's a free NBA evaluation, and has zero impact on your college eligibility unless you hire an agent. I don't get the uproar.

Idiot no.73

It's frustrating to say the least, when people are continuously getting top talent to return and we can't even get a player with ZERO minutes played to return, it's absolutely unreal.

He's good, turns 3 in a couple weeks and big as hell lol. How is your gang doing?

My 3 year old is doing great. His 18 month old sister has taken over the house however...

So we have a short, fat point guard (who played forward), a big white blob who has hit maybe 5 midrange jump shots in two years (and most notable accomplishment is a technical foul) and a skinny reclassified kid who never suited up declare?

Now we're waiting for word from a kid who has "motor" and "upside", but was more of a train wreck than anything, to let us know if he'll grace us with his presence next year.

Makes sense.

lol I forgot how bad this message board can be

We have four titles in the past 60 years. Cal has one in the last seven. Explain to me how you were able to make it through the other 53 years with only 3 titles?

People! A final decision has not been made. Everyone is so sure of themselves and speaking in absolutes. He may leave, he may not. Let's save the painstaking hot takes for then?

I'm one that has always believed that Calipari's player first philosophy was great, in that it benefited both the players and UK.

Yeah, there have been a few guys who I think were influenced by the OAD culture and left too early. But, there is no doubt that the OAD thing has been great for UK.

Having said that, yeah, I'm not too sure how I feel about kids coming in, practicing for a semester and not playing a minute for the Cats.

Hope this doesn't become a common thing.

Oh no, it cost UK money. I expect you've already emailed Dr. Cap about the scholarships UK awarded to students who dropped out this spring.

Name the recruits we were after that we didn't get because we landed Diallo instead.

If Diallo was going to go pro regardless, it at least looks better to Bamba that we stood by his friend as he chased his dream. You don't think Cal is on top of this?

Good move for Diallo. He get's to work out for the scouts and get their feedback so he'll know what he needs to work on. Unless something has changed drastically since he got to UK he'll be back to play for us next year. If he's improved so much that he's a lock high 1st round pick just from practicing with our program that reflects well on us. Win, win. I expect him back.

Told people this when he came and they said "no Cal would have never took him if that was his intention". Who knows if he stays in the draft or not by from day one I said he would test it especially since he didn't play during the year to hide his flaws

Exactly. Nothing but good came from kid practicing with team even if he does go pro. Apparently biggest negative is that it gave some hayseeds blue balls.

Malik monk responded to Diallo's letter by saying "Not like that Hami". I would read this as him saying he hasn't gotten that much better in those four months to go pro but that's just my way of reading it.

I think it's 80%+ he gone. If he returns and has a mediocre year next year he can only enter the draft 1 more time (after entering now) between next year and his senior year. He won't have the opportunity to enter again and withdrawal. It will be a predicament for him with tough decision if he returns next year and isn't a stud
