Diallo Entering Draft... Not hiring agent

I see you are being a lil sissy to everyone on here... good job. Keep living off of grandpa...

Yeah, it seems he is, Brian. I'm not happy with this decision but I think you made a pretty good point in the post that he attacked you on and hasn't answered for yet.

Oh no, it cost UK money. I expect you've already emailed Dr. Cap about the scholarships UK awarded to students who dropped out this spring.

Name the recruits we were after that we didn't get because we landed Diallo instead.

If Diallo was going to go pro regardless, it at least looks better to Bamba that we stood by his friend as he chased his dream. You don't think Cal is on top of this?
Good move for Diallo. He get's to work out for the scouts and get their feedback so he'll know what he needs to work on. Unless something has changed drastically since he got to UK he'll be back to play for us next year. If he's improved so much that he's a lock high 1st round pick just from practicing with our program that reflects well on us. Win, win. I expect him back.
if he stays in the draft Cal looks like a fool for not playing him against UNC

Please tell all of us what Cal did wrong here and what your brilliantness would have done differently?

You can't be this stupid. I tell you what, when Cal leaves, you should probably leave with him. You obviously care about two things, winning and John Calipari. Anyone who cared about college athletics, The University of Kentucky or fiscal responsibilities of tax payer money would care about this. Cal fits none of these.

Absolutely ridiculous and bullchit. If he ends up staying in the draft then I honestly won't care if Cal leaves anymore. This got old after about year #5 and it's crap now.

How friggin stupid are you to make a statement like that? Cal encourages all of his players to put their name in the draft. Keep your big boy panties on and suck it up. He's coming back. And, even if he doesn't, what is it to you?

Glad to have you back Cut Nets!!!!!

So... which of you, if you were...

Cal - Wouldn't have signed the #1 SG (huge need) and allow him to enroll early? (with no risk of losing another stud guard in doing so)

Diallo - Wouldn't do what he is doing right now?

So. We had available scholarships. Gave him one. He sat on the bench. Didn't take someone else's scholarship, didn't cost us a recruit. A total non-factor for 2016-2017. If there is any positive or negative, it's a slight positive - our guys got to practice against him.

For 2017-18, sure, we need him. But as with Teague, Orton, Dakari, etc. - what is Calipari supposed to do, hold him at gunpoint.

Would like to say I'm surprised at the sillly emotional venting, but I'm not. Mostly the trolls and never-happys. A few of them can make a lot of noise...

I bet that a month from now, UK will probably have Diallo and Bamba both locked up as part of their incoming roster.

We'll cite this thread for years to come when it comes to premature panic.

I guess people are up in arms over the broken So called "promise" Diallo made to return next year which is now in limbo.

I think it's 80%+ he gone. If he returns and has a mediocre year next year he can only enter the draft 1 more time (after entering now) between next year and his senior year. He won't have the opportunity to enter again and withdrawal. It will be a predicament for him with tough decision if he returns next year and isn't a stud

You thought he was going to UConn so you are definitely on the pulse of all things Diallo lol

Remember Kanter?? The NCAA didn't let him play, yet the BBN accepted him as a UK player. Diallo sounds like a very intelligent individual, finding out where he stands as a future NBA player...Nothing wrong with getting evaluated. I hope we have him on roster come Nov, but it never cost us anything as a team.
Diallo, wasn't able to play in McAA, or any high profile games for his Sr year, to go against the creme of the crop of 2017, this will be a learning experience for him.
Go Big Blue!!!

Really!?! Cal protects the kid by not playing him this year (why I have no idea) and now all of a sudden he's ready for the NBA? Now we aren't even getting to see kids play for UK after signing with them. I really hope this does not become some sort of a trend. 'One and done' is bad enough but '1/2 and none' is even worse. I guess that will be Cal's next 30 for 30.

Not sure about all of you but I am a fan of the University of Kentucky not the University of NBA draft picks....... I am more interested in UK winning titles not how many draft picks that we have in the league.........

I've said this exact same thing very politely numerous times and the majority of posters jump my ass like I stole something from them. I'm glad to see I'm not the Lone Ranger here. I like Cal but his 'players first', 'greatest day in UK basketball history' stuff is something I dislike a great deal. This crap is getting stupid. We have bench warmers declaring for the draft and now we've got this kid who's never played one second for us and some say he wouldn't even start next year.

We have to wait and see how it turns out.If he does leave my expectations for next season go way down.Green/Alexander/Baker are talented but I just don't see them as enough for a final 4 run.Knox seems unlikely and Mark Smith just doesn't seem ready yet to be a key player.Johnson could help but even with Bamba I don't think we are a championship team.It is what it is but we REALLY need Diallo to return.

Hope you're right. None of Cal's tweets sound too encouraging.

Cuts - you know I'm this stupid.

I get that UL not knowing the punishment yet is killing you, it will be ok.

You caring about college athletics and tax payers is comical.

P5 sports and fiscal responsibility.... ok.

So you would have told your #1 Guard recruit, the top SG in the class you cannot commit and enroll early?

His commitment did not cause us to lose anyone that we know of.

Again, only some of you fans would have told the #1SG we dont want you to commit.

I wish someone would just say exactly what Cal did wrong?

Our #1 recruit committed and joined the team early.

Cal told him that when he is ready to play he will play him.

The kid said multiple times I am coming back, yet everyone knew he would test the waters.

All of this blubber about Cal has some answering to do without any context or reasoning seems very shallow.
Come on Brian, you're a smart guy. Diallo was pretty clear about his plans before he got here. At best he was 50/50 to play next season. I actually think Cal got played with Diallo refusing to play this season. What we're told isn't necessarily the whole truth. He was too big a risk to leave in this draft to gamble with him. Cal decided to gamble and he's almost certain to get burnt. No, I would not have been interested in Diallo. The red flags were all around him.

His commitment put up an obstacle for Cal to recruit another top 2 guard. You know how it works. Once you have a top guy in a position, you rarely get a second guy. Getting Diallo may really hurt us in the long run, and again, the gamble was known.

This isn't really testing the waters. The NBA already knows all about him. If he can show he has improved in shooting and team play he WILL be a top 20 pick. The other thing everyone knew before he came to UK was that he said he will do what is best for his family. He is about to have 5-6 million guaranteed waived in front of him. Momma is gonna be taken care of.

Cal gambled and we all lost, Cal, the team, UK and the BBN. On the bright side, at least Diallo will come out of this a winner.

At least do your home work before making ridiculous conclusions. A player may withdraw his name multiple times without losing eligibility.
