D-League

Evening D, if you like grapes, go to Kroger and get some Moon Drop grapes, sweetest grapes I've ever had, kinda pricey, but great!! We need your prayers again, I told y'all we were great grandparents, both are still in the hospital, our great granddaughter wad moved out of PICU today, but will still be in there for couple more weeks! Our granddaughter had to have spine surgery this morning because she developed an abscess where she got an epidural! They said they got just about all of it, but please pray for her! Thanks D!!!

Morning Legionnaires!

60° this morning with a high of 90° expected.

Missed the game yesterday and did not know we had won until I received a text from a friend while I was still at the ballpark in Ardmore OK. Great game, I have 2 games in our league today at 1 and 3 so, maybe the Bengals will win if I am not watching. Made the drive home more enjoyable as we lost all 3 games yesterday in a 3-game guaranteed tournament. I played the worst set of games I think I ever played in my life yesterday. Was not my normal team, I was invited by another team to join. To be fair though, that team sucked. It was a mishmash of players that about half had never played together before this tournament.

One side note, there was a play at the plate that I covered in the first game where a woman (late 20's early 30's) about 5'7" 150/160lbs or so was barreling down on the plate. The throw home was low, so I went down to scoop it when she just put her knee into my left chest/shoulder area (collisions normally not allowed). Rocked me back a little as she tumbled across the plate grabbing her knee and rolling around on the ground. I went back to see if she was all right, but she just blew me off and hobbled away to the dugout angry. Found out later that her and her husband do that kind of stuff in the league they play in to get interference calls. I guess she figured the "old man" (a reference to me from their dugout earlier in the game) was going to be an easy target. At 5'9" and 200lbs or so she found out about the strength of old men (heh heh heh). She did not play the rest of that game and did not play in their next game I watched.

Sorry for the long post folks, a lot to say.

Enjoy the day and God Bless.

Sorry to hear. Wishing a speedy recovery.

I can think of worse things than getting a couple of tits in the face unexpectedly.

It was closer to a knee in the face as I had knelt down to snag the throw that was in the dirt.
The best team I ever played on had a 1B everyone called "step and a half". He had played SS for U of Missouri till an jnjury. He said the surgeon who worked on him was drunk. Even with the injury, he was one of the best I ever saw. With a good leg, I think he would have been an MLB star.

Good morning folks. Cloudy and cool in the east.

Still psyched about the Cats' win. I watched the whole game until the last second Ole Miss FG try. I turned the TV off, Slowly counted to 60 and tried to will my BP and pulse rate lower. Then I turned the TV back on, figuring I'd either catch the coin flip for OT or the end of the interview with Stoops. Thank goodness it was the latter.

Watching Lane Kiffin's teams lose is always fun. When he said after halftime something like, "We've just got to execute, stop making mistakes and just put them away," I really felt he was letting his mouth overload his ass, as he has a history of doing.

Hope it is a good day for everyone.

Got back home at about 6:30 after playing 2 co-ed games which we won. Had a much better day than yesterday. I was really bad yesterday.

Well, for the second time in two days when I don't watch my two football teams (UK and the Bengals) they both win. Maybe I should plan more outings during game times.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 70°F and clear. Today's high expected around 95°F. We'll take it.

Got another pup yesterday. Fostering now, but looks as if we will adopt her. Pictures coming Wednesday.

Monday, Monday...... Wishing y'all a great start to your week.

I had to cancel my trip to Mount Mitchell, NC for my B-day. The owner of the cabin I had booked said they had 9" of rain already by this morning and expected about 10" more. The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed for the entire length of N. Carolina....about 250 miles. I believe I'll just stay put.
I thought of this post Saturday night when we got a phone call from my daughter. My daughter and her husband are trapped in their RV in the Western Carolina mountains. They are in the Pisgah Forest in North Carolina. All the roads are closed and they cannot get out.

Most RV folks are handy with their hands and the 15 trapped RV had used their generators to reestablish their water supply with their generators and are pooling food and eating like kings. So it could be a great adventure. When life gives you lemons make lemonade.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing good. The pictures/videos of the mountains in W. North Carolina and East Tennessee are just horrible. I am thankful that I didn't get stubborn and go anyway. I had planned this trip for a couple of years (wanted to be on "top of the world" for my 60th). I would have been caught right in the flood waters while driving down.

*****************

Now that I'm 60 I feel like I can be more of a real member of this thread. lol Awesome game Saturday. I watched the first 3 quarters and then listened to the end of the game while driving on the way out to eat for my BD. Kinda glad I wasn't watching when we let them make that 4th and long and the penalty that hurt us. The announcers sure weren't pleased.

Not much planned for today...at least until my wife tells me different.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning guys.

Thirty years ago today (I remember the exact day because it was my birthday) was one of the more grim days of my overseas reporting career. I was in Haiti covering a march in Port Au Prince of supporters of deposed President Jean Bertrand Aristide. We were packed in an area where two boulevards come together -- a typical intersection -- when some gunmen from the junta that had overthrown Aristide charged into our midst with WW2 surplus M1 Garands and just started gunning down people at point blank range. In a couple of minutes about 8-10 had been killed, all within a few yards of where I was standing with a handful of other American and European journalists.

Myself and a few other guys tried to help some of those shot, as you can see in this photo (that's me with the tan vest on the right) but this guy and several others were too badly wounded and died before we could get them to an aid station. Tough day, and all these years later it is still the first thing I think of on my birthday.

Happy birthday and sad times. It is hard not to think about things like that. BTW, we carried M-1's in Turkey. They were saving the M-16's for Viet Nam.

Bernie, I've seen surplus Garands all over the third world, supplementing the ubiquitous AK-47s that all guerrilla armies favor.

During that same stretch in Haiti I had a TonTon Macoute as they called the bad guys -- (Creole for bogeyman) point one at me at the range of a couple feet. His pupils were gigantic, telling me he was clearly on some crazy stimulant. The barrel of the M1 seemed big enough to pass a golf ball. He just sneered and walked away. Asshole.

I had one of our own guys (a dog handler) act like he was going to put his dog on me "for fun". The dog was straining on it's leash inches from me. I pulled my 38 S@W(standard issue in the day) and told him I'd kill his dog. He backed off, but it really hacked me off.

I tried to emulate his game but never could. I played a lot like him in some ways but he was such a bull in a china shop with finesse. I really loved how he played.

Pete Rose, Hank Aaron, Dave Kingman, Al Kaline, Ken Griffey Jr., Tony Conigliaro (Don't ask me why), Craig Nettles, Denny McClain (Yeah), John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, Ozzie Smith..... Many more but these came to mind first.... Yep, baseball players...
