Good morning everyone

With all the rain this week I stayed here at the house and getting some honey dos completed in between the rains. Going good so far. We did see a bear Saturday while the 3 year old great niece was here. It's not her first one but I don't think she remembers the others. I got to watch the little bear dig out a yellow jacket's nest about 75 yards from the house. It went at it hard until he didn't. It took off in a big hurry for some reason. lol Gas and match (well, not a match) worked great on them later that night.

My sister has a teenage S. Korean exchange student through 4-H at her house for a couple of weeks. I hope it's a good experience for her 3 adopted kids from there. I won't have a chance to get up to central KY to meet him.

It's still a few months til the Bball season gets going. I sure hope FB season gets here quick to fill in the gap.

At least I got in some visits to home, and to my kids in Texas and Kansas City. And we’ll hit the beach in Delaware for a long weekend before summer’s gone.

- Took our 2019 Nissan Rogue in for service yesterday at dealership. $496 = total bill. Rear brakes, oil and tire rotation. Vehicle only has 11,800 miles on it. Our 2013 Nissan Frontier shows 32,000 miles. We drive very little. May sell Frontier soon. Purchased both vehicles new.

- Reserved Thanksgiving flight on Lufthansa yesterday. Depart November 25 at 4 PM and arrive in Frankfurt Germany 26 Nov at 6:30 am local. Return December 5 at 10 am local. Flight cost = $1,015 round trip and is direct. Already contacted former sister in-law about purchasing a turkey. I'll send her Euros next month via Geld überweisen.

Good morning folks. Happy Friday.

Working from home today. It is sunny and hot in the east.

Slow weekend planned, which is fine. If I'm feeling like it, I may drive up to the passes of South Mountain and walk a few miles of the Appalachian Trial that follows roughly the Confederate lines during the battles in 1862 that led up to Antietam between Crampton's Gap and Fox and Turner's gaps. There are some really nice little towns scattered up through that part of western Maryland, West Virginia and VIrginia. I always seem to find some little cafe right out of Andy Griffith's Mayberry.

Gotta get some work done before then. Take care everyone.

Morning folks. It is cloudy and 70.7°F on our way to a muggy 88°F but only 4% chance of rain. We ended up with .89" the last two nights. That is good for my weeds.

Good morning folks. Hot and sunny in the east. Just back from my long Saturday run and am literally moaning with pleasure so loud my wife told me to knock it off as I demolish a huge center slice of perfectly sweet and crisp watermelon. You are, of course, supposed to stay hydrated during a run but I gave that up long ago, end my turns totally dehydrated, then can feel my cells plumping up from the melon juice.

Bert, I agree that it was good that the journalist got to come home. I had mixed feelings about it, considering the horrible people we had to let go. No good answer —I don’t agree with the premise that journalists should just stay out of places where they might get unfairly detained. That’s just allowing any asshole like Putin or Saddam or Muslim extremists to set the agenda and hide the truth by shutting down negative coverage.

I was in Baghdad in 1990 just a few months after the Iraqis hanged a British journalist —a UK citizen of Iranian ancestry, claiming he was a spy. The spying charges were bullshit. It was pure murder. And I had lunch with a small group of journalists in Islamabad which included Danny Pearl shortly before he was kidnapped and murdered. Tragic prices to pay to do a job they believed in.

I’m glad to be able to sit on the back porch and decimate a melon. Hope it’s a good day for you folks.

Took my wife out for breakfast to Golden Corral this morning since it is her Birthday (51) today. She took me to IHOP Thursday. Both were equally enjoyable but, as with most B-day celebrations, I always overeat. Feeling it right now. Daughter got wife a new hand mixer since hers went belly up so, she bought a cake for me the other day instead of making one. She could not find a carrot cake (my favorite) so she settled for a strawberry filled vanilla cake that we will eat for her B-day today. However, she has already said that tomorrow, she will make that carrot cake anyway now that she has a new mixer. Will probably eat more of the strawberry cake for dinner since she is making the other one tomorrow. Need to get rid of it.

Doing the couch potato thing watching a lot of Olympic events until I wear off breakfast. I did not realize until it was mentioned by the Olympic announcers that not one American male swimmer has won an individual gold so far and there is only one day of swimming left after today.

My wife was commenting on how she did not think it was right for other countries athletes to come here and train and then go back and compete against us. I told her that they do that in many sports because we have better facilities, and these universities give many of them scholarships to come and compete for their schools so... they (the schools) use them, and they (the athlete) use us.

Watched Olympics yesterday. Good performances except for US men in the pool. @MdWIldcat55 : Wow, had idea, but I believe Team USA will address this present ongoing debacle in future contests.

Headed out for a hike in a few. Toss-up between Bamberg and Pilsen, CZ for Thanksgiving weekend short, side trip. Both destinations include 9 breweries. Pilsen lodging so cheap, it's nearly criminal. Bamberg also includes nice inexpensive rooms downtown.

Good morning all,

Sitting in my church parking lot drinking coffee. (No Yuengling ) Just dropped My Darling at choir practice.

Rained a little last night.

Had our arbitration visit by the head builder that stated he should have visited before this process. A snide (guess that's how you spell it.) fellow but I didn't like him and neither did My Darling. (That says a lot to me right there.)

It didn't end amicable so we shall see what happens.

It ended with; "Are you expecting perfection"? versus a stout; "No, but a WHOLE lot better than what we received."....

Just angering to me and my reasoning of their intentions. After building four homes and owning ten or so others, I have never been to this point in 63 years. (Never been in any litigation other than as an expert witness a few times.) No excuse for not pleasing me or My Darling. We are not that hard to please.

Cloudy day in the east.

Taking it easy today after finishing a run. We went out to dinner last night at a local Thai restaurant. A nice change from our normal rotation. I like the spicy soup and fat noodles.

Not much else going on. I hope its a good day for everyone.

I have raised/had probably thousands of animals in my life.......it's what I do.......strange thing is I never really had any pets......I took better care of them than most people.......when I was working I would come home in the evening and head straight out back to take care of the animals.......it didn't matter if it was raining, freezing or what.....I took care of them before coming into the house........almost six yrs ago I got two GoldenDoodles........they changed my life......I had become sedentary and was heading downhill health wise. I started moving around and got back in shape.....walking 3-5 miles a day will do that to you.....then over time they became our lives.....our daughter lives in Lexington and we don't see her much......they have a gang of kids and they are all active in school things so time is limited........in April my dog Daisy was diagnosed with Uevodermatalogical Syndrome......it is an auto immune problem........her body is attacking the melanin .........Thursday I noticed that she wasn't seeing very well.......by Saturday she was nearly blind........if not totally.......I know she has no vision within about three feet. I'm telling you folks.......seeing my dog bump into things and feeling for the steps is killing me........it didn't hurt this bad when they gave me away..........I thought I had grown a pretty tough skin over the years........this has proven that wrong........

Fink just won America's first individual gold medal in men's swimming on the final event. WR in the men's 1500m. Maybe I should have started complaining days earlier.

That's a bit of a relief, but still a mediocre showing for USA men's swimming team. I note the team coach is from University of Florida. No good ever came of having a Gator in charge.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 77°F and partly cloudy. Excessive heat warning in effect. Received some intense rainfall yesterday around 1 pm for about 2 hours. 98°F may be our high today.

- Actually went cycling yesterday morning. Rode up and down the street, perhaps 1/4 mile. Huge win for me because of neurological issues. Experienced balance problems while walking since December, 2022. Not so while riding. Plan on cycling more often, weather permitting.

- Made oyster stew. Simple recipe. Got something like 75 cans oysters in pantry. New Sunday staple. Great Omega-3 source.

- Watched Olympics coverage. Admirable performances. Happy for Team USA.

Monday morning and hard at work. I figure about 45 more of these -- minus days like Labor Day and Memorial Day and other Monday holidays plus a couple vacation Mondays -- until I retire. IT's the worst day on my job, lots of weekly meetings, busy work and so on. Ah well.

It was a nice weekend. Fairly low key but spent some time in teh woods and had a nice dinner at a Thai restaurant we like.

It is sunny and hot in the east. Still getting hydrated after my morning run.

We wee setup to do the Worlds Longest Yardsale . it stretches from Alabama to Michiigan. People do vacations to travel US 127 for the sale and Jan likes to sell her craft shades at the sale. A big rain and wind storm came and both of us are standing in it trying to hold down tents. We had five tents and four were destroyed. We werent set up totally yet so we only lost 60 or 80 shades. A couple of years ago, we lost about five grand at the same spot to similar storms. You cant leave your trash for the owner of the site, so with a mangled tent frame, you have to take it apart to have room to haul it off. If we do it again, I think we are going to look for indoor venues.

Besides the storms, it is a lot of work for oldsters setting up and tearing down in 90 degree plus heat. Glad to be home dry and in air conditioning.

Probably not. My wife was born and spent her early years in Manhattan, then moved with her family from NYC to DC, which is the only other place she has lived. While she loves Silver Grove and visiting my family I'm probably not going to persuade her to move there any time soon, just like she is not talking me into moving to NYC where she has family.

All reservations made for upcoming Scotland visit. 7 flights and 2 floats on the agenda.

Can hardly believe how cheap rooms are next to Frankfurt Flughafen. Like $80 per night. Plan on renting a room Dec 4 rather than burden my former in-laws with driving me to FRA at O dark thirty. They live around 130 km from airport. Flight departs at 10 am on Dec 5.
