Good morning all,

Getting out of my car heading inside. Must be global warming...66 degrees here this morning... Was cool yesterday though I only came outside once...

Have a great day...and a better one tomorrow...10/4....

Good morning all,

Been at my desk in DC for 90 minutes already, trying to earn (in my own mind) an early quit tomorrow when my son gets home from Texas.

I was talking to my in-laws last night, hardcore lefties but great people despite their politics, and they said they'd decided to do a write-in protest vote instead of voting for Biden. And they are serious -- they 'early vote' the second that is possible so I doubt they change their minds. If Mumbling Joe has lost them, he's in a big hole.

I hope you folks are sliding into a nice extended July 4 holiday. I'm looking forward to tomorrow evening and the day after with my family.

I saw your post in the other thread that led to posts about the David Allen Coe song You Never Even Call Me By My Name. As in the lyrics, it was written by Steve Goodman, but it was actually cowritten by John Prine. Prine did not want his name associated with the song as he was afraid the music powers in Nashville would be upset. Prine and Goodman were drunk when they wrote the song.

Bernie -- I've heard that story. I'm a big John Prine fan. His songwriting talent was other-worldy. I remember a story he told about getting up in a club on open mike night when he was just thinking about a music career and singing a couple of his songs. The club owner called him and invited him back for a paying gig. As he was driving back to the club he realized he didn't have enough songs he hadn't sang the other night to fill a set -- so he wrote a few in his head on the way. Some were classics that ended up on his terrific first two albums.

Here's one of his songs I played on my way back to Maryland after visiting home this weekend. Means more than ever now that I'm well into my 60s. The idea tat it was written by a guy in his early 20s blows my mind.

When I was in the Bug Business Sir. One of my customers was I think the name was LaBo's or something like that. A man named Bo Higdon owned it. (He has to be in at least his 70's or 80's now.

Anyway I took care of any issues he had in his place and we always did what we stated we'd do and that was good enough.

David Allen Coe came to his club (Jerry Clower would have called it a beer joint.) (I put a few away there myself back in the day.) once back then. Bo told me he got sick of the way Coe was acting while performing and he just paid him off and kicked him out...

We are talking Lebanon Junction mind you. Nothing like Vegas... Coe must be some kind of jerk for Bo to have done that... (Bo watched his dough...)

I like that song though. I have seen Coe in a couple of other type video's and I will pass...

Here it is though...

Along with the guy you mentioned...

I knew a little about Coe, but after your post, I did a search on him. He was sent to reform school at age 9 and was mostly in them till he was an adult. After he got out of prison, he was homeless and lived in a red hearse. He rode with the Outlaw Motorcycle club for awhile. He was probably Destined to be rough and crude from childhood.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 79°F and clear. Excessive heat warning in effect. Today's high may top 100°F.

Leaving out around 6:15 am. Plan on visiting my friend, Sonny, who works at nearby car lot on way to bus stop. Gent is 69 years-young and can do 80 pushups non-stop. Ride bus 801 downtown. Change at UT West Mall for bus 20 to ABIA. Flight departs at 12:45 pm. Arrive 2:50 pm. Pick up rental around 3:30 pm. Drive out to Sparta, TN for quick side-trip with cousin Bob. He was discharged just yesterday from hospital. Plan on staying an hour then on to SE KY/East TN. Daughter really wants a visit together on morning of 4th.

Leave SE KY area Thurs about 1 pm EST and drive out to Nolin Lake. Stay with other cuz overnight. Leave 4:30 am on July 5, bound for Nashville airport. Depart Nashville at 10 am for Boston. Stay overnight with another Army buddy. Fly out next day around noon for Keflavik, Iceland.

Whew! Enough about my upcoming travels.

Wishing y'all a Happy Hump Day.

Good morning folks. Early start to work today, and I hope an early quit.

My son is flying in from Austin. And my daughter who lives locally is coming over for a small cookout. Dogs, brats and burgers. Looking forward to it.

Hope it’s the beginning of a wonderful 4th for everyone.

Fine area of the country. I am close to being a Green River boy. My Elmore grand parents lived on it. I learned to swim in the Green river.

You all have a good day and safe travels @AustinTXCat.

It is already 80°F here on our way to 92°F. There are clouds but the weather forecast only show a 2°F chance of rain today.

BWI, thank goodness. Of DC's three airports, I'd rank them, in order of annoying arrivals or departures, 1. Reagan is best. 2. BWI is fine for us because we live off a connecting highway to the southern end of the Baltimore Metro area. 3. Dulles has always sucked. With the subway spur open all the way to the airport, it sucks less. But it is still a mess.

Reagan National rocks. Cool art-deco styling. Convenient mass transit options. Flew into/out for State Dept. interview back in 2013.

I had a minute and had to turn on my computer anyway...

These are rice cakes made with pure rice flour and mugwart My Darling picks out in the woods we hike. The sprinkled topping? Black-eyed Peas that have been crumbled up...

Take care, I dread this drive...

Good morning folks. Happy 4th of July, and happy birthday America. Having traveled to 80-some countries, I have no hesitation in saying it is the best place to be, and probably the best place that has ever been, whatever our temporary problems.

We had a terrific cookout last night. My son flew in from Texas and my daughter came over, along with the in-laws. My son then hooked up with a buddy to drive to the Delaware coast where they knew a couple young women who had invited them to share a beach house owned by one of the girls' parents. Damn, the life of a young, handsome, straight single guy these days...But then, young and single wasn't so bad in the 70s either.

No big plans today. No way I'm fighting the masses to go down on the DC Mall for the fireworks. Been there and done that, most comfortably during the dozen years I had a White House pass and could watch from a birds-eye seat on the back lawn, with free Dove Bars and lemonade. There may be some local fireworks near by, or maybe I'll just have a few beers and sit out on the back deck with my wife.

Whatever your plans, I hope you all have a wonderful 4th.

80 some countries. That beats me by a lot, but I wish all these America haters could see other parts of the world, and not just the touristy places.

@Bert Higginbotha : Stopped at new Buc-ee's around 4 pm. Tried calling my cuz and service kept disconnecting. Went over to liquor store. Talked to gal in there who said cell service is horrible since it opened.

Buc-ee's fudge is best I've every had.

Plan on driving past there at 4:00 am tomorrow morning for gas..

Good morning folks. Back to work, but the shortest week imaginable -- it's already Friday! That's not to say some people still won't find ways to aggravate me, as has already happened this morning. Ah well. Roughly one more year...

I had a quiet 4th. Or I should say, I stayed in my house reading, hearing everyone else have a noisy 4th, but not feeling the need to drive to the sound of fireworks this year. We have plans for a nice dinner at a favorite steakhouse Saturday, so looking forward to that.

I hope you all have a great weekend ahead.
