D-League

So we’re in Puerto Arenas, Chile today walking the streets and hear this loud screaching noise. It’s four Chile low flying fighter jets in diamond formation. What a noise. Question is, who knew they had four fighter jets? And I’d guess a lot more elsewhere.

Sir,

I love old people and children. I'd do most anything for them. Just irks me to no end seeing an able-bodied man begging. I have no tolerance....
Begging is not just a big city problem anymore. It is all over the country now and I see it on corners in the areas and towns I live nearby. Walmart and other large stores have them in the parking lots too.

I was sitting in a McDonalds a year or so ago eating lunch with my daughter in Lawton Oklahoma when two people (man and woman) came in, looked around (scouting to see who an easy mark was I guess) and saw me with my daughter. They passed by other patrons and headed for us. They ask for money for lunch, and I told them that I would not give them money, but if they were hungry, I would pay for it. They looked at each other and then said yeah, alright so, I did. They took the food and then walked out. I have no problem with helping people who are actually hungry, but those who just want money?...No.

Sounds like a great trip. And I always wanted to see four F-86 Sabres in flight. Or were they MiG 15s? I lose track of who backed who in the 1950s.

Good morning folks. Another Monday. But still on a bit of a high from the basketball weekend. It is good to get to the Selection Sunday week and feel a bit of optimism.

Sunny and cold and very, very windy in the east. Had to chase down my garbage cans this morning. Hope it is nice wherever you are.

Cold and clear in Smiths Grove. I woke up to 24°F this morning. Heavy frost.

We moved to Lorton, VA in February of 2017. We noticed a beggar at the corner of a large intersection. We noticed how consistent he was to be at that corner mostly all day nearly every day.

Darn if my wife and I drove by that intersection this past weekend and there he stood, giving everyone that passed a thumbs up and begging his heart out. He has worked that intersection for I guess at least six and maybe seven YEARS. Places all around him have help wanted signs out. A BK, a gas station, an apartment buidling.

I guess it's his life calling as he looks to be in his early 40's at most. he does seem a little mentally touched but darn he shows up day after day. That alone should get some wanting to hire him.... (I think someone may be "putting" him to work though on that corner...

One lady where we live now begs on a large intersection just down from our house. She has been begging there at least six months. She seems in her 30's... Chipper about it too...

Many, many more...

Somebody else that saw them recognized them as old F5’s. I wouldn’t know them from a Wright Flyer.

And I in my Cap and Mama in her kerchief are just settling down from me working at my daughters since I got off of "work"... (Almost got a lot finished.) (My other daughter tomorrow...) Who knows after that but I got to work on them taxes too....

Merry SEC tournament to all and to all a good night... (As soon as I hit the shower...) ;) (HEY, I love Christmas...)

Good morning from ATX. Currently 56°F and cloudy. Expect 78°F for today's high.

Received good results early yesterday morning. Key statements underlined:

"CT CHEST, ABDOMEN AND PELVIS WITH CONTRAST: 3/6/2024

IMPRESSION:
1. Mild linear scarring in the right upper lobe, unchanged.
2. Otherwise, no mass or adenopathy seen in the chest, abdomen or pelvis.

MRI BRAIN WITH AND WITHOUT CONTRAST - TUMOR PROTOCOL: 3/6/2024

IMPRESSION:
1. Stable posttreatment appearance of the brain. No evidence for residual/recurrent disease.
2. Cystic encephalomalacia in the left frontoparietal vertex, unchanged.
3. No acute intracranial process."

I may live long enough to see UK Football play here in Austin this coming October. Fingers crossed. Stay tuned.

- Packed suitcase last night. Taking few things to relatives and old friends.

- Hiked 2 hours total yesterday. Felt good.

- Chemo tomorrow.

Wishing y'all a great day.

Good morning folks.

Thats great news Austin on your health tests.

I’m still peeing blood from my procedure ten days ago. Nothing to worry about. But I’m ready for normalcy.

The time switch almost never bothers me but it has this year. Somehow I’m up EARLIER than I should be instead of later, and can’t go back to sleep. So I’m in DC a full hour too early. You want to see bums, BB, come around the Penn Quarter early. Or up around the MLK library. Some city-subsidized group hands out thermal sleeping bags and there are mobile homeless kitchens. But still a tough way to live. A real advertisement for staying off drugs and keeping booze to an occasional indulgence.

Back to work for me. You all have a good day.

Morning Legionnaires!

49° this morning with moderate winds. High today near 80°. Tomorrow will be mid 80's with moderate winds as well. Fishing will be the order of the day.

Going to the heart doctor this morning (follow up from last year this time). Had those chest pains last March when blood pressure was 212/90. Routine follow up so...hopefully in and out.

Good to hear Austin, keep on fighting and safe travels for your upcoming vacation and God's speed.

Be safe out there grinders and God Bless.

I don't like Cow tongue much.... Sir.... 😁
Me neither......I wouldn't be disrespectful to Mr. Bert by any means.......this is the downside of this type of communications.............If'n I was looking him in the eye he would have not take my statement the wrong way......I was just relating.........hoof in mouth............

The ACC Conference Tournament is being held directly across the street from my office, at the Verizon Center in DC...(I think it has another corporate sponsor now, but Verizon Center to me.)

It is a beautiful day so I took a stroll at lunch around the couple blocks nearby. Restaurants and sports bars are packed with fans who bought the ticket packages -- Duke seems to be the majority, North Carolina next, then a smattering of fans from the teams playing today like Notre Dame and Georgia Tech and NC State...So far I haven't seen one Louisville fan...Sad because ten years ago, maybe even five, they'd have been out in force.

Can there be too few LV fans?

I did not take it the wrong way. I just responded.

You should not worry. I worked at the railroad for 32 years (railroad men teach sailors how to cuss) and then I held elective office for ten years. I can take it. My skin is an inch thick.

Good morning folks. Heading into DC in the dark. A cool, clear day in the east.

On the edge of college hoops craziness. Great times.

Thanks for that link on Odie Smith Bernie. I was too young to remember him at Kentucky, but saw him play many times for the Cincinnati Royals along side Oscar Robertson. Man, he could really shoot.

I hope you all have a good day.

Must be 30 years ago, he was back in the area and attended a local high school game. they introduced him at half time, and he got a standing ovation. I liked the part where he learned to shoot with a homemade basketball of sorts.

I knew two different guys that worked laying tracks........one drank a fifth of bourbon every day the other could cut through metal with his language.........used more cuss words per 1,000 than anyone I have ever met...........

Good morning folks. Beautiful, cool clear day on the east.

I had a shock yesterday. As I entered the building where I work I bumped into a supervisor who looked ashen. He told me a woman I work with closely, and had spent a lot of time with late last week plotting out a project, had died overnight. No details yet, except it’s apparently natural causes, not foul play or self harm. A real blow. She was about my age -mid to late 60s —and had a long career working in DC. I guess we’re at the age that these things are going to happen.

And life goes on. As cold as it sounds, I had to hire a contractor yesterday to help with some work. Deadlines don’t change no matter what.

Sorry to share a sad tale. I hope all is well with you folks.

So sorry to hear that brother MdW... I only know how I felt. I think I shared this when it happened about a year ago...

This guy was 53 or 54 and in good shape. I received this text... I think it was about 6 or 7PM that night I got a call from Louise... Patrick did not live to see another day. I am not haunted by this but I sure remember it vividly reminding me, we are not promised tomorrow, we are not promised the next minute. Be thankful in all circumstances....

Take care, God Bless you and sorry again for your loss and how you had to go through it...
