D-League

Do any of you remember this:

I am an American Soldier. I am a warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values. I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself. I am an expert and I am a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. I am an American Soldier.

How about this one:

I am an Army civilian – a member of the Army team. I am dedicated to our Army, Soldiers, and civilians. I will always support the mission. I provide leadership, stability, and continuity during war and peace. I support and defend the Constitution of the United States and consider it an honor to serve our Nation and our Army. I live the Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. I am an Army civilian.

Here is another one:

Good Thursday Morning

Sunshine and 62° with a 12% chance of rain late this afternoon. The high will be 83°. The Gulf waters are starting to warm a little and by March we should see the last of any cold snap.

A little sore from a nice workout yesterday. These bones, these bones. But all is good. I trust all are well and your faith is strong. I see Tennessee blew one against Vandy last night. Low basketball IQ caused that. Don't ever pass up a dunk boys.

Take care,

iu

Good morning from ATX. Currently 40°F and clear. Today's high projected around 72°. Chilly start, but gorgeous finish.

One week after ice storm, 300 customers remain without power. Crazy.

After first day of chemo, my voracious appetite remains intact -- so far. Huge reason was 10 mg steroids though port yesterday. Feeling great this morning. Today is another day. Must report to Texas Oncology clinic by 1 pm today for more chemo. Stay tuned.

I had a freaking blast in the TX Oncology parking garage yesterday morning before upstairs facility opened. For 20 minutes, wearing my +25 year-old BDU Gortex jacket, boonie hat and carrying walking stick, I circled parking garage singing Panzerlied or German Tank Crewmen's song in German.

I was 33 years old again, enjoying camaraderie and fellowship with German Bundeswehr Panzertruppen out at Grafenwöhr range complex. Tripped a few folks out who waited in their cars and SUVs for facility opening. Heh. So what the heck.

Loss to Arkansas at Rupp night before last still smarts. Ouch.

Gotta run and harass/pester couple folks up in Political thread before I start work. Y'all behave and have an awesome day.

You got this Austin. Positive thoughts and encouragement going your way. A lot of people are joining me in prayer.

I understand. Many people in America who come to Florida fly down to Orlando, go to Disney World and then fly back home. Everything they see is man made fantasy land.

Others fly to South Florida to the Miami and Ft Lauderdale area and all they experience is New York South and crowds of people wandering around. City people enjoy that.

The picture below is about 6 miles from my house and it is very wooded with no habitation.

Caladesi and Honeymoon Island are off the beaten path and you can lay back without the crowds and commercialism. No building is allowed on these islands. Florida has 1,350 miles of coast.

That looks beautiful. Much more peaceful looking than miles of condos and hotels.

Good morning from windy, gusts to over 40 mph, Smiths Grove. It is 65.0°F and going to top out at 64°. How do you like that?

I still can't talk about the last two basketball games. Folks Oscar got 1 free throw in the two games. Someone needs to explain to me how that is possible when he gets fouled on every damned possession. The SEC refs are crooks.

I really liked Red Skelton too Sir. I remember how he always ended his shows...

He was great. My family never missed a show. That was the Golden Age of Comedy and it will never return. Our society is too divided now and there is too much hate in America to ever have comedy everyone would enjoy. 75% of Americans probably couldn't relate to a Red Skelton. His act would go completely over their head.

If comedy had remained non political and not so filthy it would be a pleasure to watch but in today's world it is impossible. What responsible parent would turn on today's comedians in the family room with their children?

Yes Sir,

Pure FILTH is passed on as "comedy" now.

A complete travesty as America goes.

Bill Cosby cut me to the quick as I held him in such high regard for his "clean" comedy. Then to find out his "escapades"...

At least Richard Pryor was honest as a comedian (Still couldn't stomach his filth.) but DARN where it went from there...

Checking in a bit later than usual today. Crazy busy at work.

Hard to believe we are a few days out from the Super Bowl. It may be because my Bengals fell short when it felt like it might be their year, but I can't feel any enthusiasm for the game. Don't like either franchise but can't muster a lot of energy to root AGAINST either team. It seems like "Super Bowl Week" used to be a much bigger deal, but then that's true of all the big sports events. Maybe its just me.

In any case. I hope all of you are having a good day.

This is where I am. No enthusiasm. No dog in the fight.

Detroit City by Bobby Bare. my dad was one of the hillbillys that went to Detroit to work on the cars after the war. He was also one of the ones who got homesick and went home. When I was in DaNang, Armed Forces Radio was playing that a lot. They had a radio in the guard house at the bomb dump ECP. I'd sit there at night sometimes and they would be playing that song. A few hills away there would be choppers or spookies with mini guns firing at charlie. You could only see the tracers, so there might be 12 or 15 solid lines of red coming down out of the sky. I always think of dad and those mini guns when I hear that song.

My Dad did the same. Dad couldn't hack factory work but he worked other ways...

During college I worked the summers for North American Van Lines and Detroit City by Bobby Bare was at the Top of the Charts. Every trucker on the highway would tune in all night 50,000 watt radio stations and they played music that appealed to the truckers. Our favorites were out of Louisville, Cincinnati, Nashville, Memphis, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Atlanta and West of the Mississippi River, Shrevport, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, etc. Fun times and it sure passed the night away as we were moving folks long distances..

My Pike Co., KY kin also made the journey to Detroit where they made the cars and worked for Ford Motor, Chrysler and GM. Some tried the coal mines but most went up North. A lot of the mountain boys learned to play the system. They would work for awhile in the car factory, then get laid off and head back to the hills. They seemed to always be laid off during Christmas and hunting season. Then the unemployment checks would run out and off they would go back to a factory job. When I was a boy I would wonder how you could get a check in the mail for not working. I thought that was strange. Being around agriculture work in Florida that was something unheard of. You worked for your pay and when work run out you found something else to make a little money. Then back to the groves. My grandfather raised citrus and when the crops were picked he would go down to the packing house and prepare the fruit for shipping. Always working.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 49°F, cloudy with a 12 mph wind out of the northwest. Today's high expected around 54°F. Bah.

Still feeling good and eating well. MRI scheduled at ARA Manor this morning. Facility lies 10 miles east of here. Another round of chemo scheduled for noon. I worked yesterday during treatment sessions. Director not happy about my working during chemo treatments, but he's not yet forbade my efforts.

Going out with former colleagues from Conexant/NXP design center this evening. Mark picking me up around 5:45 pm today.

Game tomorrow at UGA Bulldogs, 11 am CST. Dawgs looking for some payback. Go Cats!

Happy Friday, y'all. Wishing all a safe and wonderful day.

Good morning folks. Glad to are feeling pretty good and eating well during your treatments Austin.

I have my last physical therapy session this morning at 7:30 am. I'm ready to move past this stage. My hip feels perfect and my leg mucles feel strong and pain free. Now, my LEFT knee, that's another story. One step at a time.

I need to get on the road to make the session so I'll wish you all well and check in later.

Good Morning D

It is Friday and Cracker Barrel is having a special on catfish. I know where I am headed. The weather today will be pleasant, 67° and the high should reach 82°. We have a better chance for rain today than yesterday, 15%.

Thankful for the good report from Austin. He is a fighter and fighters win. I will do some tweaking on my sprinkler system today. I am not getting enough pressure to the sprinkler heads. Should be an easy fix.

Take care all,

iu
