Haha. I reckon so. I'd followed a girl down to Florida when I was 21. Her parents lived on the Coastal Waterway up in West Palm Beach. I can't imagine what that property would be worth today, with access to an inlet that led to the ocean.

Anyway, one of the first things I remember was going to visit her parents, and seeing some substantial gators lounging at the foot of their sloping yard. I learned that just a short time back, their next-door neighbor had lost a dog to the beasts.
Gators would follow my neighbors toy poodle when Joe would bring him out to do his business. They would start across the lake nearly every time.

It is 74.4°F and cloudy, on our way to 84. Only 20% chance of rain. So far we have 1.31" so far the last two days. I would welcome another inch or two.

No chicken wings for me today. This afternoon I am going to do some blackened catfish. It is hard work carrying around those danged cast iron skillets but it is worth it. I grill them outside to avoid the mess it makes in the kitchen.

Ah catfish, my favorite.

Good morning all,

Just able to use my phone. Been moving this morning. My Darling and I just had Bagels, cream cheese, and our selected coffee's.

Had a couple chance meetings earlier this morning that were very strategic due to my current situation. (Out of the blue.) Just amazes me how God guides my steps and places me at the perfect time where I need to be and where it is best for me to be. Submission is a hard thing to do but God's time is always the best time...

Just had to give a praise report though I didn't give specifics.

I will give more information later if the Lord doesn't take me home.

Have a great day. The wife and I plan to leave shortly for the commissary and then Walmart. Not yet sure in which order... 😉

I am back in the house for the day. I finished up my light yard work, cleaned up the area and put the trash in the big can to be hauled away. Our garbage pick up days are Tuesday and Friday. I pay $24.00 every 4 months. I could take it to the recycle center for free but I might as well let them do it for $6 a month or 8 pickups.

I think I have downed about 60 ozs of water this morning. It pours out of your skin in this weather. If you work outside down here you best have a water bucket nearby. It looks like taco salads are on the menu for our noon meal.

The pool looks inviting so I will relax in it this afternoon, if all goes as planned. It is turning into a nice Friday.

Sir, I pay $102.00 a month to my HOA for the same two day a week garbage service. They mow the common areas but that is about it for the dough...😡

The price you pay for living in the big city. Think of all the other amenities you get though. You don't have the threat of wild hogs rooting up your yard.

I am hitting the pool.

Sir, I'd trade "varmint's" in short order though I do live in a decent neighborhood. Every once in a while though, you get a roving mongrel or three...

Good Morning All,

I trust all are well and today will bring sunshine and smiles into your life and blessings. We have 72° at present and may get over that 90° mark this afternoon. The high could reach 91° with a 10% chance of rain. Sunshine will be the order of the day, There are no tropical disturbances off shore.

Yesterday was a big day for our Cadet at the USAFA. It was the last day of BCT and the day started off with a wake up at 4:30 AM and a two mile run. The remainder of the day consisted of "Heritage Day" activities where the cadets were met and escorted by the USAFA grads. They were presented with a better understanding of the career they will soon be entering, and what will be expected of them at the Academy and in the military. The graduates then welcomed each cadet into The Long Blue Line by escorting them over the Heritage Bridge. Dr. Max Miller, a 1959 graduate talked to them about the meaning behind the Challenge Bridge and led them across it. Then were escorted into Doolittle Hall where they learn in more detail the history and expectations of an USAFA Cadet. It was a good day and no doubt makes quite an impression on a young person and the mission they will be expected to carry out as an officer in the U.S.A.F and Academy grad.

Next week is ACCEPTANCE DAY and my son and his family will be flying out to Colorado for that. It is quite the show I undersand.

Good morning D-League. It's currently 65° and cloudy here in Eastern Kentucky. This afternoon will bring a mix of clouds and sun and a high of 83°.

I saw where the Reds traded Luis Castillo to the Mariners.. They get 2 highly rated infielders and 2 pitching prospects. If any of the 4 pan out, the Reds can just trade them for more prospects down the road.

One winning ticket in Illinois was sold on the Mega Millions.

Everyone stay safe on this Saturday.

Good morning folks. Back from a 3-hour hike I began near dawn. Felt great. There was even a cool breeze part of the way. Its a sunny, clear day here, and heading toward hot but not brutal.

I'm starting to get excited already about the Bahamas trip of the Cats. So many questions to answer about this team and that's when it begins.

Taking it easy today. Probably spend some hours strolling through the woods along a lake close to our house. Tomorrow, if things work out, going up into the Blue RIdge Mountains for a hike with my son.

Hope it is a good day for all of you.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 78°F and clear. Today's high expected around 103°F. Summer marches on.

No one here won the lottery? Bah! Went for a walk this morning before posting in this thread. Usual change finds. Watched some dog time a traffic light just right and avoided getting hit. Doubt it was by design, but ya never know.

35 more days until Kentucky FB.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Vacation cabins from a period long ago. This was before motels and high rise hotels. We called them tourist camps or cabins.

Sawnee, those places look to be about the size of my first rental apartment in Pompano Beach when I was 21. The rent was $25 a week in 1977. No kitchen, just a room with a bed and a tiny bathroom. Hell, I didn't know any better, I thought I was living like a king -- especially when I could coax a tall blonde I was seeing over for a visit. It didn't even bother me much that the place would get an inch or so of water on the floor when those sudden summer storms would hit. As for no kitchen, I'll admit to letting garbage from fast food meals accumulate a bit in the place, as a 21-year-old will do.

The rosy glow started to fade one night when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom after too many beers. I walked into the bathroom in the dark, ignoring a soft whispery noise. When I turned on the light I saw in the open medicine cabinet these fat palmetto bugs flattening themselves to squirm out of the little slot cabinets used to have to discard used double-edge razor blades. I turned back toward the bedroom and in the light noted there were large roaches distributed around the walls and floor. It was all a bit much for a boy who'd never lived out of Kentucky, and mostly in my family's bug-free home. I was bailed out when I got a job and the blonde invited me to move in and share the rent in her much nicer place in a complex with a pool.

As an aside: that last picture with the newspaper caption: "TOKYO BOMBED JAPS SAY: ADMIT DAMAGE IS HEAVY". Sherry's uncle, Bob Bardin (will turn 97 years old August 11) was the belly gunner on the first B-29 over Tokyo. Of course he served when the Air Force was part of the Army.

Sherry baked one yesterday afternoon to go with our blackened catfish. What timing.

Good morning all,

First day I've slept in since I can remember. Ready for biscuits and coffee. Wanted some sausage but will settle for some ham and eggs with a little shredded sharp cheddar cheese. I am thankful, have a great day. (Have to get up and cook what I just described...;))

Light cloudy and 73.0°F on our way to a nice 82°. No rain yesterday and 0% chance today. Those poor folks in Eastern Kentucky got dumped on. Fox News said 26 are dead and many are unaccounted for. Prays for those folks. Kentucky has over 90,000 miles of stream so we are susceptible to such things in big storms.

I have the first two basketball games set to record. Can't wait.

I had my sausage and grits around 6:30. I had biscuits too. Not from scratch but the frozen, I like Mary B's buttermilk biscuits we bake if we don't have time to roll them out from scratch. We buy Tennessee Pride locally because it is whole hog and very good. They sell Old Folks too but it is not as good as it is in Kentucky. When I go to Kentucky I always bring back about 20 to 25 rolls (lbs) of it and freeze it. These two brands are the only ones locally I care for. Both are whole hog.

Those Eastern Kentucky floods have been some of the worst in history. I remember 1958 when it hit Floyd County hard. Shortly after the flood daddy drove us up from Florida to visit my grandparents and he stopped at the point the school bus went into the Big Sandy River and we paused for a moment. I was 13 year old kid and it made an impression on me. It was a terrible and tragic thing.

My grandpa built his house way up on the hillside. It was a pain climbing up there but the bottom would flood often, especially in the Spring and it made good common sense to build high. He climbed that hill every day until he died at age 86. He thought nothing of it. God Bless those good folks.

I pray the death toll does not increase but I would imagine some got swept away and it may take days to discover them. If ever.

Bert, that is amazing. I am thankful you shared that with us. A true WWII hero and a very special, brave young man in 1945.

My sister in law lived in Palm Bay. Cocoa Beach is in the same county as is NASA. That is the Space Coast.
Patrick Air Force Base, just below Cape Canaveral, is also near where he lives.
My first cousin Jerry lives in Titusville. After a career in the Air Force he worked on the Space Shuttle and has never left Titusville. His son lives in Carrollton, KY and his daughter lives in the Mountains of North Georgia.

Jerry and I share the same birthday June 13th. He is 30 minutes older than me and about 8" taller.

Good Sunday Morning,

Headed out to church. We will visit my cousins' church in Indian Rocks Beach as he is taking an executive position with the church headquarters and will be leaving his current post. They have been trying to get him to take the position for a few years now but he was in the process of a very large multi-million building addition to the church and would not leave until it was completed and completely paid for. The church he pastors has never been in debt and always had the money before they laid the first foundation.

Now that it is complete and paid for he feels he can move on and the new pastor will not be left with a financial burden. God bless him. More later, have a good day all.

Morning Legionnaires!

Back to triple digits today as the last two days were in the low 90's. Fishing happened yesterday 🥳and the new go to pond (Bald) did not produce so, I went to the old (Rattler) go to which had not done so well this year and had several strikes hooking 4 and landing three. The biggest being about two pounds but, at least I caught some. Ahhhhhhhh, needed that fix.

Got back just in time for my wife to talk me into going with them to meet her sister and her kids, her mother, and her cousins for lunch at Asian Buffet for about an hour or so. We (my wife and I) then took the kids to a local roller skate/game play establishment while the others went back to cleaning out the burned house. Her sister and kids were supposed to leave today but, they finished what they were supposed to do late, so they are leaving tomorrow morning coming over here today to celebrate my birthday (65 tomorrow) and my wife's (49 on Wednesday).

Good news about the house is the owners are going to doze it down so, my MIL will stop paying rent on it. Bad news is she still wants to stay here after her son moves to Florida.

Good morning folks. Just heading out the door to drive up to South Mountain on the Maryland/WVA border to take a short hike along the Appalachian trail with my son.

Saw the Reds offloaded Castillo yesterday. You always get these wildly optimistic reports on how the minor leaguers the Reds get in these deals for stars are going to set the league on fire in a couple years. Then it seems like you never hear of them again. I'm sure there are exceptions, I just don't follow the team closely enough these days to remember any.

Hope its a good day for all of you.
