D-League

Good morning D, read Mark 2 this morning.

Bert and all the D, I hope y'all get to feeling better!!! Praying for you!!!

Had a great day with my son and daughter-in-law Tuesday, we went blackberry picking, we got 2 gallons of berries. He has a place that he picks that he can just pull his golf cart up to and start picking, he also has it set up where he can fold a back seat out and stand on it and get the high ones!!!

We went arrowhead hunting yesterday, it will probably be the last time until they harvest their crops, just too high, may have to hit a creek on their property.

I hope the D, has a great day, I think I am going to work on glass today!

Thanks for the reminder Sir. My Darling and I have a spot where we have been able to pick a good amount of Blackberry's the last couple years. We plan to do that later today.

BBUK, he's really lucky, these are the tame blackberries, large ones!!!

Sir, these are some we picked last year from the spot we will check later today.

Morning folks. Another sunny day here in Smith Grove. It is 75.7°F and is supposed to get to 89° which is a degree higher than yesterday. My electricity bill will be nice this month, plus I have company this weekend so the guest room and upstairs will have to be put at comfortable temps.

41102 & MD Wildcat, good luck is whupping Covid.

AWF, I look forward to see your birds.

Sawnee and BBUK, I understand the stairs. Sherry and I have had one one house (out of 10) that was on one level. We like the two stories and we had a few with three levels. Now that I have gotten old and ran out of good knees, ankles and hips it is hard.

You all have a good Friday Eve.

When I saw the picture on the rope over water the Jaws theme came into my head.
Several years ago we were camping on the Suwanee River and a bunch of young boys no older than 10, probably 8 or 9, had tied a rope over a tree limb and were swinging over the river. They would drop and swim back.

The boys had long knives on a belt around their waist so I asked them why? One of the boys told me they had a bunch of gators come at them and they were ready this time. I SMH and said "go boy gig him". These boys were raised in the back woods and you could tell it.

It looked something like this. Oh to be young again

HA HA, HA HA...

I found one. This is Ole BBUK in his "prime"... I was pimping and profiling, also about two inches taller. Ye Ole walk down the stairs after receiving the sheepskin (Panther skin)...

Sad thing though as I found out later...... John Wayne died that day... The day this picture was taken in 1979...

I remember the day John Wayne died. I knew he had lung cancer but it was still a shock.

Here he is in a Camel commercial.

I was going to tease you about looking like a real gentleman, but I guess I won't. I'll be 75 soon and I've never owned a real suit in my life I think I want to be buried in blue jeans and a T shirt, but my mom is 95 now and I've been thinking about whether I should buy a suit to wear when we have to bury her. My sister will probably be upset with me if I don't.

Howdy folks. Just catching up. Great photos of your granddaughter Sawnee. Man, you must be so proud of her.

Not too much progress to report in my so-far one sided fight with COVID. Spasmodic coughing is the worst of it right now, along with about every other symptom of the flu. Not in any way dangerously sick. But still sick.

My wife said something interesting to me today. We met in 1985, and have been paired up for nearly 30 years. And she said, “This is the first time I’ve ever seen you sick.”

Its true. The only times I remember being sick since high school were 1990 in Baghdad, 92-93 in Somalia, 94 in Rwanda and the same year in Haiti and 01 in Afghanistan. And I had always recovered by the time I made it home.
Pisses me off to lose that home winning streak to this Chinese gunk.

I am not the guy to advise you on this but I would buy a suit.

However, this advise if from a man that had to wear a suit ever day of my working carrier.

I need teasing. I bought that near leisure suit (I call it near due to the "near" bell bottoms.) at a second hand store though at the time I had worked for two years at Whitehead and Kales in River Rouge welding on boxcars. I was making $11.42 an hour and was rolling. (I think minimum wage back then was $2.90 or something like that.) I remember having about $300.00 in my pocket then and what happened to it that weekend I do not remember but it was gone. I barely was able to pay my rent that month. (Had money back then but no sense except cents in my pocket.) Where it went no one knows, not even me... I am thankful...

Well, Blue has been adopted. Step-son came by and picked him up in a Tesla. Took him to a pet store and purchased a new leash. Lady out by Lampasas adopted him. They live on 10 acres. Hard letting him go, but too much friction here.

Here he is after making a mess of my office. Typical Kentucky hell-raiser, right?

Good morning from ATX. Currently 75°F and partly cloudy. Storms hit west and north of Austin yesterday cooling us slightly. Today's high predicted around 97°F, ending 13 straight, triple-digit days.

Miss my little buddy, but it's for the best. He certainly created an exciting climate within our family.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Morning Legionnaires!

100 plus degrees again today (repetitive, I know) and will be that way according to the weather experts for the next 10 days or more.

Getting blood work done this morning for my next doctor's appointment on 2 August. Both my wife and I are getting it done. Have not had it done since 13 Feb. 2018. Have to monitor blood pressure for the doc as well. Last night 141/82 and Wednesday was 131/72 (am testing). A bit high I guess but we will see how the other days go until the next visit.

It has to be tough being away from your wife for so long and then when she gets home come down with the China Flu. We are pulling and praying for you to get back 100% and continue to share your great collection of photos from around the world. You are a valued poster on the D League.

Thank you for the compliment of my granddaughter. She seems to be enjoying the hell she is going through and it is making her stronger. I am anxious to get a report from her when the family can talk to her again. Our prayers continue

Good morning all,

Our typical summer pattern continues with today's forecast much like yesterday, last week and the weeks to come.

At present it is 72° and our high should reach 87° The humidity is high and chances of rain late this afternoon are 50%. Last night at around dark we had a nice lightning and thunderstorm that was still going on when I drifted off to sleep. My wife loves that kind of weather. Probably the reason her favorite Waylon song is "Storms Never Last"

I trust all are well and those with COVID continue to improve and those with aching bones like Bert mend so a point they can run the marathon. God bless you today.

Thanks for that concern Sawnee. It is greatly appreciated. And I really enjoy the fellowship with you and the other D-League regulars.

I can report I feel much stronger today. Close to being back to 100 percent.

I hope all the D-League is doing well. Starting to get excited about developments with the Cats (basketball.) And the football season is starting to feel right around the corner. Crazy.

Have a great day folks.

I am not a doctor but as a man who suffers from blood pressure problems and heart surgery 12 years ago: For me your pressure is good. The diastolic (bottom number) 72 is good. The 82 is not too bad but it depends on how relaxed you may have been when you took it.

My doctor does not want my diastolic over 90 and he get worried when my systolic get to 150.

Morning to the good folks of the D-League. It is sunny and a warm 79.9°F on our way to 92°.

Good progress on the leg yesterday and today. I was able to sleep in the bed last night and I took a shower this morning instead of a sponge bath. (Thank goodness for a shower!).

I am hoping the doctor tells me monday that it is all muscle damage instead of bone. If so, I should be back at it in a week or so.

Thanks for all the well wishes. My son is coming down this weekend probably only because I hurt myself. I am going to have him mow the yard. But he will expect a good steak!

Sawnee on your grand daughter actually liking the torture she is going through, my son when through basic, officers school and AIT and enjoyed every bit of it. He always said that they are going to make you do push ups whether you are perfect or not so take the extra minute rest and enjoy it, it will help you do more pushups.

Enjoy your Friday, guys.

I had two special treats when I was growing up. One was sugar cane I got out of grandpa's cane field and the second one was an RC and Moon Pie that grandpa kept in the kitchen.

This is a new bottle of RC

Sir,
I've had the pleasure of gnawing on sugar cane a few times. Indescribable other than sweet but different and pleasing. Also, even today if I see an RC I will usually buy one, I drink very little pop but if I had my preference it would ALWAYS be an RC or a Vernor's Ginger Ale...

I see sugar cane sticks when visiting Asian markets at times. When my grand babies grow just a little more I plan to buy a piece just so they can experience gnawing on it. (I will have to as well to ensure my memories are correct.) ;)

I will tell you a story from childhood about sugar cane. My grandfather raised about 5 acres of it and when it was sugar cane cutting time, big trucks would load up and haul it off to the sugar cane mill for squeezing. There was a little ditch out of the field onto the road and an overloaded truck would often drop of few stalks. We would grab them, get out our pocket knives and enjoy. Sucking on that pulp was as you said indescribable.

One hot day we were sweating profusely with dirt streaming down our face, no shoes and bib overalls. A lady in a Cadillac saw us and pulled over. She approached with this sad look on her face and reached out to give us each a dime. I remember her saying "you poor boys, starving to death and nothing to eat but corn stalks". We looked at her license plate and it read New York. As she drove away he said to me, "stupid Yankee". And we laughed til our bellies hurt.

We were having the time of our life like two Southern boys do and she thought we were dirt poor with nothing to eat. Now we may have been dirt poor but we sure had some good stuff to eat. Here I am with my buddy.

Both my mom and dad's families were large. I spent a lot of time one summer at mom's parents' house. They still had 5 or 6 kids at home in a rural area. There was a "roach coach" that came by daily. All the kid's would meet it and get an RC and a moon pie.

I still have moon pies in my kitchen to eat when I want one. Unfortunately, no RC's but I also enjoyed them when I was a child. @SawneeCat Do you remember the criteria for you to be considered a doper in the Army?

Drinking Grape Nehi's, smoking Kools, and eating moon pies.

Speaking of Nehi, Peach is probably my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

I vote for peach too. Nehi made the best of any company. IMO

When I was growing up a soft drink was a treat. My parents did not buy a six pack or carton and bring them home. If I earned a nickle I would go buy one at the Gulf station where they were kept in a large ice chest outside. Big blocks of ice were used to cool the drinks and there was nothing like reaching your arm down in that melted ice water to pull out your favorite drink. It was 95° but your arm would freeze when it hit that water.

Ice cold for sure. Here is a picture of an old one that is an antique now. I have a wooden Coca Cola ice chest by my pool. When we have a get together I fill it up and ice them down. Just like the old days.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 76°F and mostly cloudy. Today's high expected around 99°F.

Stepson decided on adopting Blue. His 6 year-old daughter fell in love with the pup and renamed him Oliver. Got his shots yesterday.

Must take our pup to vet later today for blood test and consultation. She threw up last night. Always something with our furry friends.

49 days until Kentucky football.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.
