D-League

Kind of a funny story. We lived in a rural area, so it was awhile before we could pick up a signal from any TV stations. I remember we first got a TV maybe in the mid 50's. It was a great big old thing that got a prominent place in the living room. Soon after we got it, the preacher came over to visit. He was a strict fire and brimstone preacher and mentioned television as evil in some of his sermons. My folks rushed to turn the TV off before he got to the front door. As a kid, I'm thinking, "Do you really think he's not going to notice this big old TV?"
We lived with my grandparents till I was 4. The people M & D bought our first house, 4 rooms, from left behind their standup console combo radio with a ~10" diagonal TV also built in. Remember it being so cool to have a TV for the first time. Grandpa/ma didn't get one till '57. Anyway, the TV stopped receiving except for one channel - NBC. I was Ok with one channel. Beat nothing. M & D finally bought a real one receiving 3 stations again - !!! - after ~6 months - LOL.

Good morning D, read Matthew 25 this morning.
What a thunderstorm last night!!! Started about 11, don't know what time it ended, but we had 4-5" of rain, since last Saturday, parts of Muhlenberg Co. have had close to 10" of rain!!!

I hope the D has a great day and prayers!!! Bert, hope you're feeling better, I know you are probably sore from your fall!!!!

I see where Kentucky has had some high temperatures even higher than down here.

The heat and humidity mixture down here will take the vinegar out of you and unless you are use to it will drain you dry. I have been outside working for an hour or so and calling it a work day. I will clean up and meet my daughter who lives over in Ocala to see the new Elvis film.

There are mixed reviews about the film so we would like to see it ourselves. Elvis first hit the stage when I was 13 and my family knew several people personally who performed with him. Namely Donnie and J.D. Sumner. My mother knew the Sumners from Lakeland all of J.D.'s life. They were fine people and all very talented. Should be fun.

Trust all have a nice afternoon.

Good morning from Anneta, KY. Currently 66°F and clear. Nice.

Spoke with a gent yesterday in Louisville I had not seen in 41 years. Even though he'd aged, he seemed the same. Kind of an eerie feeling in some ways yet familiar in others. Enjoyed this visit, Stopped by Peddler's Mall in Hillview with cuz and picked up a large, used cabinet which he'll use for storage.

Cuz offered me a 10-month old Beagle hound and a carrier. Healthy dog. I'm very tempted.

Leaving out this morning hopefully around 7:30 am. Goal is arrive in ATX by 11:30 pm tonight. Plan on returning weekend before Thanksgiving.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Howdy folks. Beautiful day in the east. Cool, clear with a nice breeze.

On a long walk and listening to a podcast, which makes the miles go by. I like true mystery stories.
Today I’m listening to the disappearance of Louis LePrince. To set it up briefly, the guy who invented the moving picture camera and patented it was a guy named LePrince.
But just as he was about to display it at a grand premier in New York he gets on a train in front of many people —then disappears before the train reaches a station where people are waiting for him.

What happened? His wife hinted that Thomas Edison had him killed to steal his idea. That’s probably not true, but no one can really say. Strange stuff.

Here's another for you. It also involves a train.

That’s a wild story about Ed Delehanty, Bernie. I’d never heard that one. You’d think a lifetime .346 hitter wouldn’t have a care in the world.

Good afternoon. It is 82.5°F and sunny. We are to top out at 88°F. Thank goodness the 95-plus day are past for the time being.

I ended up with 1.63”, I am still confident that Cord is stealing my rain! All the facts presented on this board sort of prove it.

A trip to the doc is required for my leg. It is not any better 6 days later. I dread that. I may have to be whittled on. Dang.

I lost a good friend Friday. N.E. Reed. We met in high school. He married the prettiest girl in my church. Then when I came back home in 2000 and got into politics in 2005 we reconnected in spades as we were both on the BRADD executive committee. They did not come better than N.E. May God rest his soul.

My birthday was June 13, 1946 and his birthday was June 14, 1947. So every year I would get a phone call from N.E. and we would wish each other a happy birthday and then discuss family, our good lives etc. He is one that I will miss.

You all have a good day.

So sorry for the loss of your close friend Bert. Prayers for those who survive and may God bring peace and comfort to them.

Bert we have been getting more than our share of rain down here. It lasts about 30 minutes and then the clouds roll on by and sun comes out again. I wish I could pipe some up to you but that Biden guy doesn't allow pipelines and it cost too much to send a truck up.

So to solve the problem I will have Cord do a rain dance and I will pray. Meanwhile I am listening to the rain.

Afternoon Legionnaires!

Hope the day finds everyone well. Bert, here's to hoping your leg is just bruised with no serious damage.

Heat wave continues here. Triple or near to triple digits everyday now. Supposed to drop to 98° by Wed for a day and then back up. Not much time in the day for fishing but, I got out this morning so...Here's the fishing report:

Many strikes again this morning (common theme these days) with 10 hooks and 4 landed (Bass won that round). One was over 4lbs and another just under 4. Ran into another guy out there who was in a kayak (I was in waders) and he landed about 10-12 bass. He was using a smaller bait than me and his biggest was near 2 lbs but, he was pulling them in hand over fist.

What makes the probability higher that it's not true?

Hello all, I hope you all are well.

I do realize some have had some health issues and injuries. (I have kept you in prayer.) I have been here everyday and have kept up. I just decided it was time for me to take a sabbatical from posting. (I can do most anything I set my mind to doing except brain surgery but, I cannot leave this place (The D-League) I have taken to my heart.)

I have had a lot of changes occur recently and had to focus on myself work-wise and my family. (I still have un-finished business...) I will expound further in future posts IF the Lord doesn't take me home. Please understand I will at least be viewing this thread/ home, that I care about deeply.

A couple/ few of you know nearly exactly how much I care.

May this Lord's day bring you all the peace and rest you desire and need. I KNOW God WILL provide your needs IF you trust and ask God to provide, and you SUBMIT to God. Have faith, God IS still in control.

Bless you all...

That's some serious tonnage....(The fish...) 🤤(Those are trophy-worthy.)

Good morning from Shawanee, TN. It's abut 70°F here.

US mail truck crashed near Claiborne Co/Union Co line early this morning. I got held up for 1.5 hours, said screw it, and took a helluva shortcut to get here. @starchief5 may know the area (Sharp's Chapel). Crazy stuff.

Gonna get some sleep soon and go grocery shopping with daughter.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Disappointed I missed national beer run day.

Reminds of a friend whose father was wounded in Vietnam. Shot in the ass while on a beer run at night past enemy territory. Never told his children, but the officiant at his final services was given the green light to tell the story.

God bless the D-LEAGUE! May He grant that the sick and wounded see a speedy recovery and no long term, ill effects

Good morning from ATX. Currently 87°F and clear. Today's high predicted around 106°F. Huge change from yesterday on Nolin Lake.

Well, I brought a 10-month old beagle hound with me from KY. Named him "Blue". Possible massive mistake. Summer already snapped at Blue when I introduced both. Blue is outside right now. Stickers all over him. Gotta clean him up. Wife asleep. Lots of work ahead with these two. Must turn in rental car by 9 am.

Drove the 945 mile trip from Bee Spring restaurant to our front door in 15 hours, 25 minutes. Cuz loaned me a wire dog crate. Blue was upset at first; he howled when leaving his litter, but seems okay thereafter.

I'll check back later. Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Good Morning all,

Fast at it this morning. Much to do...MAN if you could only see what I sat out for "me" to do.... Work too... I guess I can but I don't do much whistling... Take care...

(I remember this song... Whistle while you work, you stupid little jerk..." Yeah, I am... at times for sure...)

Morning Legionnaires!

102° on tap for today with the next 2 days going down to 98° and then back up to 100-105 projected for the next 10 days. Next Friday-Sunday (22-24 July) is the OK State softball tournament and projected temp being 102-104°. No rain in sight, hope that changes.

Going doctor shopping today and the rest of this week except Wednesday, (going fishing) if I don't find what I like today. Will visit my wife's doctor's office this morning. Have not had a checkup in a few years and it is about time. The last checkup I did have was just a token one done by a PA at RACH (Reynolds Army Community Hospital). Really need to find one who will actually give me a work over, so I know where I stand in my overall health.

For those hurting I pray God sends you relief.
For those working he sends you energy and strength.
For those traveling he sends you protection from harm.
But most of all, he keeps you safe and happy in his arms.

Was thinking about my Dad. I was angry about an issue that came up with work. (I was mad.)

When I stated I was mad, Dad always told me, "Rub your mad spot.".... Settled me down...
When my daughter was mad at her mother, I used to ask her if she wanted me to pick up the refrigerator and throw it at her mother. She would start laughing and the mad would be over.

Good morning D League

@warrior-cat. It sure does get hot in Oklahoma. Mercy.

We have 76° at present and will hit 85° this afternoon. We should get our routine afternoon rain shower around 3:00 PM and the rest of the day will be sunny. It might be sunny during the rain shower. It often is.

I had an uneventful weekend, just getting ready for some football. Practice starts down here in a few weeks and football is in the air. My granddaughter marched to Jacks Valley, a 3 hour march from her dorms or barracks (I am not sure what the Air Force Academy calls them) to set up a gruesome camp which will involve the second part of basic cadet training (BCT). Once the basic cadets arrive they set up a tent encampment and prepare for 2 weeks of physically intensive military training.

Here is a little video of what the next few weeks will be like at Jacks Valley

I'd fall off that telephone pole walk in about two steps. Balance is shot.

I was just heading out the door to work in the yard when down came the rain in buckets. So I will wait for it to pass. . . . .
Until you live in Florida you do not know what a frog strangler rain is. It can come down by the bucket loads. :)

Then the sun comes back out in a few minutes and the humidity goes to 99%! Okay maybe only 90% but it will feel like it is 190%.😁

Good afternoon D-League. I woke up feeling like hell today, fever, headache, sore throat, cough, sick stomach. I was sure I had COVID, but I took one of those home tests and it came back negative.

Feeling a little better as the day wears on. But just really low energy. Work is a true chore.

But it is a beautiful day here, sunny and not too hot. So maybe I can rally enough to take a walk after a get through a run of work meetings.

Hope it is a good day for all of you.

John would do this to a child or young person...

He'd do this to that vermin...

I bet the sweetie would prefer this... (But he wouldn't get it...)

I learned how to swim by being thrown in the lake by my older cousin. We were at Lake Wimauma on the pier. I was 5 or 6. He asked me if I could swim and I answered maybe, I never tried and he picked my up and slung me as far as he could. I hit the bottom and came up and splashed around until I got to the shore.

Everybody laughed. That is the way we use to do it.

Well I am still batching it for a few more weeks so I get to pick what I want to cook for supper. Tonight it will be liver and onions. My wife will not touch it and I love it so I am headed outside and frying me some liver.

That is what you do when you are in charge. I will cook about every thing I love that she doesn't while I have the chance. She always wants me to cook outside when I fry up things like that so I will honor her request. I am going to have a feast.

I am a simple man with simple tastes.

I wasn't thrown or pushed Sir, I jumped in willingly thinking since everyone else could do it, so could I, (I was in a swimming pool at my friends pool party when we were young.) Another kid who lived there ended up pushing me to the side after I swallowed a half gallon or so, sunk like a rock I did but I have since learned some common sense or at least caution. I was a reckless mug... A stunt like that will "Wise you up" as my Dad used to say. (Just remembered that.) ;)
