D-League

Read up on Michael Flatley. Decided I'm going to become a professional dancer since I'm retired...

'In 2001, Flatley purchased Castlehyde, the house originally owned by Douglas Hyde, the first president of Ireland, near Fermoy in north-east Cork, then in a derelict condition, for €3 million. Flatley spent €27 million renovating the mansion and another €20 million furnishing it with artwork and antiques. In 2015, Flatley purchased a mansion in Belgravia, just off Eaton Square, for €28 million and listed Castlehyde for sale for €20 million.[45]

In addition to Castlehyde and his London mansion, Flatley owns valuable properties in the Caribbean, New York, Beverly Hills, and Villefranche-sur-Mer. He has invested a significant portion of his wealth in Berkshire Hathaway.[46]'

...but maybe not....
'In May 2015, Flatley revealed that much of his vertebral column was irreparably damaged and that he had a damaged left knee, a torn right calf/triceps surae muscle, two ruptured Achilles tendons, a fractured rib, and a recurring broken bone in his foot.[32]'

....but, he must be a great guy....

'In January 2017, Flatley introduced his troupe for a performance at the inauguration of Donald Trump. Flatley called it "a great honour".'

I just turned 67.....I have been the patriarch of my family for 12 yrs.....we are lucky to have veterans of Vietnam still living......

I announced to my family a couple of years ago that I was resigning from my patriarchal position. Told them I was worn out. Turned it over to my 30 year-old grandson. Call him with your problems I said.

Sitting here watching Riverdance 1995 on YouTube. Haven''t seen it for years. Not into dancing at all but dang....those kids (young adults) can dance. None hardly ever miss a beat. And I love the Irish music.

Wonder why something that was such a huge hit suddenly disappeared? I know he (Michael Flatley) came back with another production a few years later...but then it went away as well.

Reminds of when I first moved to Georgia. Had never heard of, let alone saw clogging. Learned to love it...especially going to N. Georgia fairs/festivals in the mountains in the Fall.

This jig was unscripted in that scene from Deliverance. Most of the peripheral people in that movie were locals, not actors.

Again, not looking to debate the issue. I agree that many policy positions at AARP are liberal -- much more so than I am.

But to clear up one misconception: The organization cannot and never has donated any money to a candidate or a political party. It would violate its tax status as a non-partisan, non-profit and all hell would break loose. Believe me, if Big Drug Companies -- one of AARP's biggest enemies -- could prove the place gave one dollar to the DNC, they'd file the largest lawsuit in history and use political puppets to attack its tax exempt status.Big Pharma hates the efforts by AARP to bring down drug prices.

So, I hope we can move on. I never intended to trigger a quarrel by posting some stuff about D-Day.

You gotta tip your hat to AARP for their efforts in that area.

In my opinion It is disgraceful that the Republican party does not support allowing Medicare to negotiate the horrific prescription drug prices.

My feet used to get happy when I heard bluegrass music........dare I say.......Jesco White-ish.......not so much anymore since my arthritis got bad......

Good morning from ATX. Currently 79°F and cloudy. Clearing later with expected high around 92°F.

AARP: wife and I were members until around 2014 or so. Wife decided on ending membership for some reason. Can't really recall why. We may rejoin.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.

Aaagghhhhhhmmm, Donuts.

Morning all. Another nice morning in the Buckeye State. High today will be around 80 with a chance of showers.
Need to get over to the garden to see how it's doing with all this rain. I'm sure it's a 100 yard dash between the veggies and the weeds.

Not much on the docket today. Could mow....don't feel like it. The Mrs is doing a late Spring housecleaning. The whole house room by room....so she'll probably want me to move a few things here and there. Her daughter and the two 'rug rats' are coming in next month for a 4-5 week stay. Oh joy.

As usual, my timing is a day off. Stopped at a donut shop yesterday. No jelly...although I thought about it long and hard....went with cinnamon glaze twist/pretzels.
Side note....is it doughnut or donut? I see more and more donut...but it always comes up as wrong on spellcheck.

@warrior-cat ... unless I missed it, did you have any more damage from the hail storm? Think you posted one window was broke and you were a bit worried about the truck. Hope not.

Y'all have a good day.

I am looking for a new weather or rain gauge. Any suggestions? I know several who post here use them. Thanks all
SwaneeCat on the rain gauge, here is the one that I bought last year:

I love Irish and Scottish music and dancing. This is where Appalachian roots are. Some of the old country songs were brought over from Ulster, Ireland and the Scottish lowlands.

My family came over from the area in the 1700's and landed in Pennsylvania but only stayed there for a short period because they were Presbyterian and Pennsylvania was Quaker country and Presbyterians were not welcome. So they drifted on down to Upstate South Carolina were they made their homestead. From there they went to Western Virginia and crossed the river into Pike County, KY

One of the most famous Ulster Scott ballads was Barbara Allen. It has been recorded by just about everybody from Dolly Parton to Joan Baez and on and on. One of my favorites is Emmy Lou Harris. I heard my grandparents play this song on their front porch with fiddles and guitars a playing. Oh how I love that music.

Good Tuesday Morning

Currently 71° and the sun he is arising. We will hit 85° with plenty of sun with a 25% chance of thunderstorms. We had a taste of it last night.

Cord, I read Jerimiah 3. Thanks Bert for the rain gauge tip. I am ordering one this morning.

The deer feasted on my wife's roses last night so I am going to try to salvage what is left by nursing them behind a screen out by the pool. It worked for her hibiscus so maybe there is a chance. You just can't grow anything when you live next to a "wildlife preserve" or as we once called them a swamp. Enough of that.

Put pressure on your state legislature and governor to pass it. Our governor signed a law allowing the importation of Canadian drug and International drugs to by-pass the higher prices paid by Americans. I have not paid a penny for prescription drugs in a long time. Not even a co-pay. I get them shipped to me by Humana

If you have an innovative local and state government you can get things done.

https://flgov.com/2019/06/11/govern...hb-19-prescription-drug-importation-programs/

The Villages, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed CS/HB 19: Prescription Drug Importation Programs, delivering on his promise to find innovative solutions to the rising health care costs plaguing Floridians. The bill establishes two programs – the Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program (CPDI Program) and the International Prescription Drug Importation Program (IPDI Program) – to safely import federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved prescription drugs into the state for the benefit of consumers and public programs.

Good morning D-League. Thanks for that link to Emmylou's 'Barbara Allen' Sawnee. My wife loves that song. I've been listening steadily to Emmylou's early duets with Gram Parsons. Man, what a loss that those two didn't get to make music for decades.

Living the life of a modern dad/husband today -- My son drove back to Lexington to see friends, my wife is visiting her college room mate in Atlanta, and my daughters remain in Kansas City and Austin. But we can all chat on a text thread as if we were conversing at the supper table. Still, the house feels lonely here by myself.

I hope it is a good day for all.

When I want to relax and enjoy pure music my go to is Gram Parsons and Emmylou. They may be my all time favorite duet. Perfect blend of voices.

Some dents in the truck and the warning lights above the back window of the cab was busted. Plus, a windshield wiper was knocked off but, I could and did put it back on. Gutters on house took a pounding. Most houses gutters in neighborhood did. Neighbors had new windows (10 at $25k total cost) put on last week and only had their bathroom (thick plastic blurred type) busted.

I was thinking.

When I was born into this great country men and women fought for our freedoms to guarantee them. Now the government seem hell bent on taking them away.

I hope I do not leave this world knowing the men and women who died for this country died in vain. If we go full socialist it will have been in vain. Think when you vote.

Bless you Sir! God Bless you...

Oh, may all your days today be good to where you can give thanks.
(Hint; Give thanks in all circumstances as God will make your way if you trust him.)

Take it as you can brother. Solitude is a good thing in moderation. I relish my times alone. I am not complaining but my times alone are not many. (Again, not complaining but when I get some solitude I try using it to the full extent possible.)(I guess I am thankful in all circumstances.)

That's a good attitude BBUK. Yeah, I too enjoy those first 24 hours or so of being alone. It's been a fairly uncommon experience in my life for decades. I wonder how long it'd be before I got really lonely. That hasn't been tested at least since I became a father for the first time more than 35 years ago. That's probably a lucky thing.

An example of government efficiency....
Got the mail earlier. Envelope from Medicare. That's interesting in that I haven't had Medicare for a few years.
Opened it up and it's one of those Summary Notices....thought, do I get these for my 'advantage' plan?
Looked down page 1....date was fairly current. Then below it is the 'Your Deductible Status' box....."You have now met your $183.00 deductible for 2018." !!!???
Then on page 3...Your Claims for Part B....was the services, billing code, approval, amount charged, Medicare approved amount...etc. For...........a procedure I had done in October of 2018.

Just another fine example of how we need the Federal Gov't to not only run our health care system, but everything else.

Having Scottish ancestry, I also love the music. Not many people like hearing bagpipes, but I love hearing them. This woman is really good at playing them.

During the filming of The Passion of the Christ, Jim Caviezel (playing Jesus) lost 45 pounds, was struck by lightning, accidentally scourged with a whip twice, leaving a 14-inch scar, had his shoulder dislocated, and suffered from pneumonia and hypothermia from hanging mostly naked on a cross for several hours outside. His body was so stressed and exhausted from playing the role that he had to have 2 open heart surgeries after the production! The crucifixion scene alone took 5 weeks of the 2-month filming time.
The Passion of the Christ is the highest-grossing rated-R movie in the US, of all time, at $370.8M! Worldwide it grossed $611M. Most importantly, it reached many souls around the world. Mel Gibson paid $30M out of his own pocket for the production because no studio would take on the project, and Jim Caviezel was warned not to take the role of Jesus because it would ruin his career.
Today is Jim Caviezel’s birthday, and he’s 51 years old. He proudly proclaims his faith in Christ amidst the godlessness of Hollywood.
Thank God for people like him who will step out to do what might not sound “fun”, but it gets out the Word of God and the story of His salvation of mankind. Happy birthday, Jim Caviezel!
