D-League

Cal brought this on himself and may end up a mighty lonely man. I never saw a coach alienate a fan base like he has. And for what? Why would he even entertain doing such a thing. What was he thinking?

I guess if you think cynically about it...and since he has that life-time contract... he may be thinking of taking some dough and running. He made some kind of comment less than a year after being here that this was a ten year job at max. (I know, he changed that later on but I guess he really didn't change it after all...) He may have already had his foot out the door and is just trying to get some sort of lump sum before he leaves.

(Yeah, just some random thinking but I cannot think of how Cal overcomes what he has already done here and ever gets things back to how he started here. (Just in the last 6 to eight months))

Cals buyout is 60 million dollars! I about died when I read that, so I looked it up and it’s a fact.

Morning D Legionnaires!

Fruit cake yes, I am what I eat. Orange cake? Never had one.

Lonesome Dove? Nope. Never seen it.

Wife and daughter have been "hounding" me for another mutt. Have four already but 2 are on their last legs and they wanted one in the same or close to the same lineage as the big one we have that is getting on in age. I have been saying no for about a year now but, she showed me a picture of a litter of 8 (6 weeks old) that will be either killed by the farmer who does not want them or taken to the nearest shelter. The mother's face looks just like our big girl and is a Pyrenees. Our old girl is a Pyrenees mixed with a tank. She is muscular all over and stands like she is ready to take you on (95 lbs). Apparently these will be too because, they are mixed with a big boxer. The Shar Pei mix we have will probably have to be put down soon. Having many complications including we now think cancer so, I gave in. Got the mutt on Friday night while a few other people came in to take some of the other 8. Now the training begins.

Oh sleepless nights.
We currently have one dog. Back in 2013, we had three. Two since passed away. It rips your heart out when they go.

How STUPID can a university be.... Maybe they can use some kind of morals clause as he sure is morally bankrupt after that blm fiasco... One can only hope...
Cal would have to be caught sleeping with the UK President's wife or involved in some financial wrong doing to get fired by UK. So IMO this is going to have to play out. Cal's physical appearance tells me he is a whipped man and his actions during the game show a beaten down man. He yells and curses non stop. I think it is so bad the TV turns down the sound to screen his foul words out.

And on top of that he is losing long time hard core fans. I talked to some this weekend. It is shocking.

Cal will bolt and run imo. Fans are fixing to come down hard. It’s bad now, but he ain’t seen nothing yet. It’s not gonna be pretty, and the program will suffer for a year or two probably. But to quote Cal himself, if you can’t get it done, I can’t hide you, next man up.

Seriously someone needs to get in his ear and tell him he is losing fans every passing day. He may think he is immune because he is Calipari. But he would be fooling himself.

If he loses his team and fans he is going to be all alone. Well except for his family.

Do you remember this? It made he best grilled cheese sandwiches under the sun. When I was about 10 years old my Kentucky grandfather retired from the mines and he started getting commodities for some reason or another. No one thought he was poor because he had a large farm for the mountains and raised some nice horses. But he was eligible for commodity cheese and we sure enjoyed it. You couldn't buy it in the store. I would love to have a box of this today

My maternal Grandmother got that, also. It was good cheese.

The one thing he can not have or allow is for the inmates to run the insane isylum. The boss runs the place. What he says goes whether it is good, bad, or indifferent. If some want to leave then fine. Don‘t let the door hit you in the a** on the way out. That is main lesson these young ones need to learn quickly.

This will work it’s way out internally.

The clouds broke for about 10-15 minutes and I was able to see the 'Christmas Star'. Not as bright as I thought it would be, but the sun was not all the way down. Have a pretty good pair of binoculars so was able to see clearly the two different planets. Cool considering it was a once in a 800 year event. The Mrs was on her phone while we were outside calling all kinds of people to go outside and take a look.

@_Rooster thanks for the link. I'll still check that out here in an hour or so.
Did some reading on that observatory. Pretty interesting. Of course like a lot of SE and SW cities, the city has grown out to that mesa where it's at, so I wonder how much actual research they can still do? Building, subdivisions, street lights, etc. Or is the telescope equipment so much different these days that they can override that?

It would be best for the program if Cal works out his issues. No program can afford that buyout. Not everything the guy does is bad by any means but he’s put himself in a bad situation.

If Cal rectifies this situation I will be flabbergasted and much willing to admit I was wrong. I don't see his character overcoming the adversity HE has created. Not sure how you correct giving the entire fan base the finger. (Rick did it.... Cal just used a different …gesture...)

I'm running of ideas for keeping our dog from getting under our deck. He pulled down the lattice yesterday. Wall blocks will work but they look awful, Uncle Eddie remedy. I might have to completely seal it off with wood. Love my little Houdini but damn what a pain he's become.

He more then likely won’t change.

May invest in a few boxes of mothballs. (Spread'em around liberally under your deck but heavier in the entrance areas if the entrance areas are not everywhere.) May have to replace them regularly but I don't think dogs will eat those and they will definitely not sniff around them long. I know for sure I used to use those to keep snakes out of areas. The dogs sense of smell is acute and those might work. (If they don't, it was an inexpensive way to try.) They should last a month or two with each application depending on the moisture. May be a training tool that won't need repeating... Who knows at that point...it should work though.

Don't they have DIY electric fence kits that you could put around the deck? Of course some people don't like to use those thinking that it may hurt the dog....but I don't know.

Thanks! I'm a little leery of using moth balls. Marty would probably go against the odds and eat them. The boy is head strong.

Thanks, I still own my home in Summerville. may decide to retire there if we don't retire to Florida. SC has the nicest people in general I have ever met.

Summerville is a nice area. Everything around Charleston is growing quickly. The traffic down that way...oh my. Mt Pleasant has exploded over the last few years. Of course that seems to be way everywhere around here.

Good idea but he'd have to wear the collar receiver all the time. He's chipped so no collar around the house. Now I do put the collar on during our daily walks.

An electric fence will solve the problem. Wear gloves when installing so the dog doesn't associate the mild shock with you. Canines are smart when they want to be. Dogs will touch the fence only once! It doesn't hurt them. You've been shocked. Did you forget, No. Did it hurt, not really. You understand what's going on. The dogs don't. They do have excellent memories. No way will they come back for more. Disconnect and put away unless there's other varmints you're concerned about. You can leave wire as a reminder.

I caught a decent glimpse here before high clouds moved in and obstructed the view. May try again in a few.

So true about dogs being smart and associating smell. When I was young, we had an old mixed breed collie. My dad was going around our electric fence trimming weeds and the dog was following along. The dog decided to go under the wire for some reason, and bumped the fence with his back. He turned on my dad and almost bit him. He obviously thought my dad was the source of the shock.

I'd hate for Marty to wear the receiver collar and I have no doubt he'd go back under the deck once I disconnect, regardless of the shock. He's killed a lot of varmints and many under the deck. The boy has a good memory. Such a change from Chloe (my Avatar). A lot of people say he's got American Dingo/Carolina Breed in him.

Sounds like you are sol.... ;)

No collar involved with the battery powered fence. If Marty touches wire he's the electric pulse receiver. I'd worry more about an anthropomorphic paradigm confusion.

Sounds like a Foster Brooks type drunk....
Which, maybe, ain’t so bad? I mean, at least he was a dedicated drunk. Dedicate your life to something, right? “John Eubanks was a great American . He was a professional tree climber. Didn’t believe in shooting no coon outta no tree. Either cut the tree down, or make the coon jump out amongst 20 dogs, give everything a sporting chance”. That’s dedication.

We had a male Boxer that knew he was going to get the shock, but he would go through it anyway. He would yelp and snap at the invisible culprit that was creating the shock, and then go on. He was smart enough to know that if he endured the couple of seconds of pain, he would be free, and he was willing to pay the price. The actual fence would have worked with him.

And I think this is the problem. He has always been able to get these HS stars to come in and play as a team. This bunch wants to be selfish and play for themselves. When this happens, you get a 1-5 start. I think that's why Cal looks so bad.

The young cats do not appear to have trusted leadership. The key to leadership is caring. Folks do not give a hoot what you know until they know how much you care. They haven't been around long enough to know what they need or what to expect. Without stable experienced upper classmen, expect the alpha dogs to fight. You probably wouldn't push Nick Richards, PJ Washington, Chuck Hayes or Winston Bennett more than once.

GP, in addition, having confidence is key but you have to have confidence due to your core. You must be grounded. It is sad seeing what I once thought was a moral high ground turn into placation. How does that happen? In this instance I think what was once leadership turned into feeding the ego. It is a fine line but a line you cannot cross and stay true. I will stay general in what I stated but somewhere, Cal has changed and morphed into a caricature of himself. That never works out. Had he just stayed the course and not tried to take it up another notch UK may not be going through what UK is going through... It is a sad sad spectacle...
