We have enough problems and don't need that dancing skunk weasel back.

Good Monday Morning D

It is 58°F and sunny, we will see a high of 68°. Chances of rain are 2% on this the shortest day of the year

After reading through the comments I am in the mood for a liverwurst sandwich with some strong mustard on it. I might even buy a loaf of light bread. For some reason it tastes better on light bread to me. Maybe a pickle or two or some cherry peppers on the side. Even a pickled green tomato.

I trust all have a nice day

When I looked up Lonesome Dove to see when the mini-series was first aired, I found this on Wiki. Had never heard of it and wondered if you had....

'Larry McMurtry's original novel was based upon a screenplay that he had co-written with Peter Bogdanovich for a movie that was intended to star John Wayne as Call, James Stewart as Gus, and Henry Fonda as Jake Spoon, but the project collapsed when John Ford advised Wayne to reject the script '
Wow, i can’t imagine that wouldn’t have been a blockbuster.

Upcoming football game against NC State looking good.

I like the fact none are opting out. That is a phrase that is foreign to me, quitting before a big game to keep from being injured. I will never accept anyone doing that if you are an important part of a team. I know the money, the money, the money. I just can't relate to it.

The Gator Bowl is a lot of fun. The stadium is really nice and located near the St Johns River. The river front has a lot of nice things to do and the fireworks over the St Johns is entertaining. I went to the last one.

Phil Mickleson throws a ball with his RH, and writes that way. The only think he does LH is play golf. They say he is a scratch golfer from the right side. Not professional good, but scratch.
I have the same thing in common with phil except the scratch thingy—from either side. i also swing baseball bat left handed. my dad was ambidextrous. i guess i inherited some from him. weird.

With this season not counting against eligibility, I hope that means we get 2-3 of those guys back.

My father was like this. Batted left handed and threw right handed. He was a pretty good semi-pro in his day. Actually played against Stan Musial in Williamson, WVA

Good morning D, looks like a white CHRISTMAS is off for us in the Berg, could change again, after all it's Kentucky!

It's going to be a busy day for me, first I have to finish up on 4 glass ornaments I have made, then to church to try to find 4 property pins, then finish the day by going out to sky event tonight. I sold my 8" telescope a few years ago to a friend of ours, he's going to set it up for viewing tonight. I am going to take my 10x50 binoculars , they are on a tripod. 10x50 are good binoculars but you have to have a steady hand or brace your self on something to steady them.

Day 8 of two day priority mail!!!!

We got 7 of the 10 Orange Juice Cakes delivered yesterday, still got 3 in the freezer, may just be two in there after today, they are really good!!!!

I hope the D had a great day and always prayers are going out for the D! Bev you are still being prayed for!!!!
Day 8 for a 70-mile trip? Unreal.

I may get my binos out tonight and take a look.

I am experiencing frustration also. I always order Claxton, GA fruit cakes through Amazon every year. I give away a bunch of them and freeze a bunch for later in the year. I ordered them over 10 days ago and even received an email they were being delivered on Dec 11. Still not here and today I call Amazon to see if the driver ate them.

Orange Juice Cakes
Orange Juice Cakes...can't say as I've even had it...or heard of it. Sounds good, I'll look them up today.

A good Christmas week to all in the D. If you're like me, it'll be quiet and laid back. We've got everything done other than to 'go Krogering' tomorrow and buy for Christmas dinner. I like Kroger less and less, but it comes in handy this time of year. Use the Kroger Mastercard all year...pile up the Kroger points...get Kroger checks every quarter...use them this time of year for holiday groceries, etc...no $$$ out the pocket. So that's a plus, considering our house is what I call the 'family community house' where everybody goes to every holiday for Christmas, Easter dinner and cookouts in the Summer. And who pays for all these family dinners and get togethers? You guessed it. But not complaining....this way I get to stay home.

Count me (belatedly) among those who consider Lonesome Dove the best western ever. My first reaction to reading of this proposed movie is that it would have been an amazing epic.

But I've kinda cooled on that idea. Is there any chance anyone could have nailed the part of Gus as well as Robert Duvall? He was born to play that part. And Tommy Lee Jones was nearly as good as Call. Even Henry Fonda as Jake Spoon feels a little off. You needed a younger guy who could play a bit of a rogue and rake.

By the way, the book is a great work of literature. I came across it cold when it first came out, and just devoured it -- one of those books that kept me up until I couldn't hold my eyes open. That was easier 30-odd years ago than it would be now, but I'm tempted to try it again.

We get Claxton every year as well. But we normally get them at Kroger or Sams Club. Got them about two weeks ago at Sams. I hate fruit cakes....but love Claxton. They are really good. My brother makes 3 or 4 fruit cakes every year from an old down home Ky recipe....but Claxton is much better.

Drove thru Claxton, Ga. many years ago. Can't remember why in that it's out there by itself....sure I was on the way to somewhere but don't remember. Claxton Fruitcake Co is right on the main drag, pretty much in the middle of town. The smell was incredible.

I highly recommend Orange Cakes. My mother made them homemade from fresh squeezed orange juice from the grove. Most citrus ripens during the Christmas season so it is a good time to make them fresh from scratch. The icing was to die for. I tried to find a picture of one like she made but this was as close as I could get. Mom's cake was layered but her fluffy icing was special and this picture is not what she put on it.

The closer we get to Christmas the more food. In January we will be posting diet plans to drop that extra weight LOL

OC, Mrs M makes the most incredible OJ cake you could ever eat!!!! She has a trick that she does, that makes like that. She has people asking her what she does, but they still can't make them like her! I would mail you one but you probably wouldn't get it before it turned green!!!!! I will add to this, when she gets done with the juice before she pours it over the cake it's like a orange syrup, very smooth!!!! All others I have eat, they have a sugary, grainy taste, not hers!!!!!

Don't ask me where cause I'm not sure, but my mom would order fruit cakes from the monks somewhere here in Louisville. They were kinda costly. I loved that fruitcake. I shoulda been more precise in where she ordered them from but the only answer I ever got when I would ask where she got the fruitcakes was "the monks"

I'll bet it's Gethsemani Farms made by the monks of Gethsemani. Trappist, Kentucky.

Welcome back Murphy Call.

It is a cool 42.1°F and overcast. I hope to mow leaves this afternoon if it is dry enough and the mower will start.

You all have a wonderful Monday.
I hope the sun comes out for you, otherwise you better have your long johns on. It’s now 42 here, but feels much colder. I couldn’t take riding a mower today.

Morning D Legionnaires!

Fruit cake yes, I am what I eat. Orange cake? Never had one.

Lonesome Dove? Nope. Never seen it.

Wife and daughter have been "hounding" me for another mutt. Have four already but 2 are on their last legs and they wanted one in the same or close to the same lineage as the big one we have that is getting on in age. I have been saying no for about a year now but, she showed me a picture of a litter of 8 (6 weeks old) that will be either killed by the farmer who does not want them or taken to the nearest shelter. The mother's face looks just like our big girl and is a Pyrenees. Our old girl is a Pyrenees mixed with a tank. She is muscular all over and stands like she is ready to take you on (95 lbs). Apparently these will be too because, they are mixed with a big boxer. The Shar Pei mix we have will probably have to be put down soon. Having many complications including we now think cancer so, I gave in. Got the mutt on Friday night while a few other people came in to take some of the other 8. Now the training begins.

Oh sleepless nights.
