D-League

You have an uncommon last name. i had a sergeant in usaf basic training back in the 60s whose last name was higginbotham.
English/Scot. The earliest in my ancestry that I can trace came from Scotland then England then Barbados then Virginia then Kentucky. A bunch are in Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Florida, Tennessee. My direct ancestors until my father/prohibition always made whiskey or rum. That was the family business.

Yep, been up in two of those types of helicopters shown many times. The CH 57 Chinook and the UH 60 Blackhawks. Also pictured there is the AH 64 Apache and the OH 58 Kiowa. Spent a little over 4 years at FT. Campbell.

Those Chinooks are amazing. Where I live, it's common to see them(and other aircraft) doing maneuvers out of Ft. Campbell. I was backing out of my driveway a couple years ago when I thought I was being attacked, lol! Got out of the truck to see 4-5 Chinooks just cruising by. They weren't even that low, but the noise they made was impressive. I love that stuff!

That's also old Division HQ. Photo taken around 1980 or 1981. During a reunion 5 years ago, I saw the new DIV HQ and it's really something.

I see Detroit has pulled out of the game on Dec 15 and we are without an opponent. WKU has volunteered to play in Rupp as a fill in opponent. I am all for it Coach Cal. Let's play them. What have we got to lose?

The game, and prestige. I think this bunch needs the three a day practice sessions worse than the game. jmo.

That's what I've heard. New OC search underway. Eddie was fantastic last two seasons, in my opinion. Seems he slacked off this season.

I thought he did a great job, when all he had was a wr to run the offense. I honestly think that Stoops has a little to do with the old Woody Hayes offense that we run, and I'm not sure that a change of OC will help, unless he makes a total commitment to stay out of the play calling and let the OC actually run the offense.

ATXC, I liked the old Hal Mummy offence!!!!
Yeah, good old Air Raid. Developed by Hal Mumme and Mike Leach. The offense works great with the right personnel, but as witnessed earlier this season, not so good when timing is way off. Anyway, Mike Leach was our OC for two seasons. It was a lot of fun.

I think so, too, and agree about Woody ("Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad.") Hayes style offense . Coach Stoops seems more committed to ball control. Fans would certainly welcome a change.

Iowa Wesleyan, Mt. Pleasant Iowa. No a little bit about that town, We had two sons born there. They don't like to be reminded about it though! They bleed Blue!

I talked with some one in the know and the word is Stoops will look first to the NFL for an OC and open up the offense. If he can get a solid NFL mind he should be able to stay out of the way and allow the OC build an exciting, scoring offense.

Who know how this will turn out but it sounds like Stoops is aiming for more than a retread or assistant to an OC. We know he has a least $1,000,000 to spend and probably much more for the right man.

The only trouble I had with the Air Raid offense was that Mumme became obsessed with how many TD's they passed for. Don't know how many times we would have 1st and Goal at the 2 or 3 yd line, and he would pass 3 straight downs, instead of just running the darn thing in. If we can balance it with some decent running, I am all for it.

I guess my question is, how much do NFL OC's make? Why would they leave the NFL to come to UK, unless they are on the hot seat? And, if they are on the hot seat, do we want to hire an under performer just so we can say he came from the NFL? Maybe a QB coach might be more reasonable.

I didn't get the impression they were taking a look at the NFL just to say we got someone from the NFL. The person would have to be proven not on the hot seat. The Cats need someone who can run an offense that opens things up and can score with other teams in the SEC. If you can't pass you can not win with the top teams in today's SEC

I trust Stoops wants the best he can find for $1 million give or take. He has some good contacts in the league. Who ever we get, college or pro, he has to be more innovative than Gran was. We have to be able to score with a minute to go before half time. Gran would run three plays and head to the tunnel. Alabama, Georgia and Florida look to score and put more points on the board before half time. That is who we must be.

I look at this as an opportunity to improve the team. If we can't get anyone better than Eddie Gran, I don't know where to go from there.

I hear you and agree. Need balance.

1998 was the best season for UK Air Raid. Seems like wheels began coming off during 1999 season after Leach joined Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. Mumme thought he could play HC and OC full time. At least Cats went to Music City Bowl that year. 2000 was a disaster.

I totally agree about him needing to let the new OC do their job. The fact that Stoops has had 3 different offensive coordinators, and the offense has remained pretty much the same, says a lot.

Sawnee, that was kind of what I was getting at. If they are unproven, or not on the hot seat, would they want to leave their current situation, uproot their family, and come to UK, for the kind of money that UK will offer? I just don't know the salary range of NFL offensive coordinators. I would think it is as much, or at least close, to what UK will offer. Would they leave a successful situation for not much more, or the same, money? I am skeptical.

Two names to watch out for with Stoops connections, Ken Dorsey(Bills QB coach) and Deland McCullough(Chiefs Rb's coach). Stoops was defensive backs coach at Miami when Dorsey played, and McCullough is an Youngstown native like Stoops and Marrow. Link

Not sure I want a RB coach, to change our offense to more pass oriented.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 45°F, clear and calm. We're looking again at low 80s today. Beautiful. Downside: we're facing record drought.

Watched an ESPN 30 for 30 episode last night called "Survive and Advance" about NC State's 1982-83 championship run with Jimmy V. Although the documentary kept me up way past my bedtime by 3 hours, I really enjoyed it.

Wishing happiness and health for all our fellow D-League members.
