Well after two years since our little hurricane took out the pier over at Bayport we finally have her back up. Ribbon cutting will take place on September 27. The pier reconstruction was delay because they found a Confederate ship sunk close to the channel and the U.S. government had to make special arrangements to make sure the ship was not damaged as its rests on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. One the red tape was taken care of they started reconstruction. I think it turned out nice for a secluded, rural spot on the Gulf. Great fishing off of that pier. The sunken ship is NW of the flag.

Bayport is one of the oldest spots in Florida and was a port used to ship cotton. Cotton was the major crop around here until the railroad came. Once they could ship fruit by rail, everything converted to citrus growing and of course cattle.

My aunt, Dad's sister, lived in Dover. A small city outside of Plant City. 75% of our vacations started there with a 2-3 day visit then branched out to various parts of Florida. The folks always tried to work The Kapok Tree in somehow regardless of where we traveled. Many fine memories.
I know where Dover is. My ancestry went through Plant City in the 1850's and drifted over to Clearwater to raise cotton and some cattle. Once the railroad came they switched to citrus like most everyone else. My grandmother was from Turkey Creek not far from Dover.

Small world. Aunt's house was tiny with a railroad track going through the backyard. No air conditioning other than the window units in the bedrooms. Of course I got stuck sleeping on the couch in the living room and sweating like a pig. Still wouldn't trade those memories.

Turkey Creek's approximate boundaries include Dover to the west, Sydney Road to the north, Mud Lake Road to the east and State Road 60 to the south. My grandmother taught school at Turkey Creek school. Grades 1-12 all in the same little school house.

Good morning from ATX. 76°F and partly cloudy is our current temperature. Today's high should reach around 92°F. Our rain chances have improved over the next few days. Stay tuned.

Well, that phone call finally came in. Reva passed away last night at age 92. It appears I'll return to Harrogate/Middlesboro area this weekend. I'm awaiting funeral details. Looking at a quick trip there and back.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

I'll bet our local Florida resident will recognize this place. Clearwater restaurant that was huge in the 60's and 70's. Loved going there during family vacations. Closed nearly 30 years ago.

Dined there once in '82 or '83 with my mother and step-father while in FL on leave. That place was huge. Haven't thought about it in years. I honestly can't remember anything about food quality.

Good morning salute to you Legionaires. May God bless you this morning and throughout your day . Going out shortly to chase the Large Mouthed Bass again. Today's high to reach only mid 80's so I should have an extended trip. Stay tuned.

Ordered a top sitting fishing kayak yesterday so I can get to some of the difficult spots in some of my ponds. Won't arrive until the first of October or so. Never had a kayak or ever been in one so will have to learn to use.

If I'm going to have a project delayed, I'd rather have it due to something like a historical piece such as a sunken Confederate ship...than a snail darter.

Good morning to the D

We have some light rain and 76° and will top out at 84° with probable thunderstorms on the way. Vicky, Teddy and Paulette are all brewing to the East of us and of the three only Teddy appears to be any kind of future threat. We will track him and see.

Austin sorry to hear about Reva. No matter what the age it is never easy to say good-bye to a loved one. Now you have the memories which remain with us until we depart. Have a safe trip.

Trust all have a great day

You will love the kayak. We have more kayaks around here than automobiles I would guess. Not trucks but automobiles. Behind my house is a perfect spot to kayak and fish. The tan one is a fishing kayak but I have not had the opportunity to use it much. I should be back by in her by November. Have fun.

The food was good, probably above average and not overpriced. Most people went for the "scenery". The restaurant was elaborate with Roman fountains, Greek statutes and of course well cared for gardens. Women loved it. When Mr Baumgardner died it started to decline.

The Five Star restaurant, Baumgardner's, was across the street. That is where you would find the Rolls Royces, Bentleys and Cadillacs in the parking lot. That was a fantastic dining experience but I only went one time. I was raising a family and could not splurge my money away.

This is the Kapok Tree. It was planted in 1870 and imported from India. These are very interesting trees and provide a source of food for monkeys. We don't have any monkeys around here but over in Ocala they do. They escaped when the movie Tarzan was being film at Silver Springs and now are wild all over that place.

Come on down and check us out, our hand is always extended to welcome a conservative who loves America. That is what you will find around here. It is a little different than the image of Florida with its crowded beaches and Disney World. We are the Nature Coast for a reason. The marshes leading out to the Gulf are perfect for kayaking and enjoying nature. Hunting and fishing are supreme

Thanks. Much appreciated. I await more info before heading up that way. 16-hour drive ain't much fun these days.

Man the wife and I sure do miss Bill Miller's. We loved that joint. It was right down the street from us in SA. (I-10 and De Zavala) When we went back to fix up our home to sell it after many years leased out we hit that place nearly every day. Like a whataburger now and again too. (I know OT on the subs but you got me thinking about the Texas food. There are a lot more but those two chains don't come this far.) Of course I lost about 50 pounds since leaving Texas too. Dang I looked like a little feller in Texas... ;)
Speaking of Texas beef, these guys are legit.

Makes perfect sense. I've driven through there 3x over the years. Stockyards all over Lubbock area. Between cow poop and oil wells, the smell in the air is nearly nauseating.

i understand I could not go to my MIL funeral in Kentucky and it is only about 12 1/2 hours. Had it not been for COVID-19 I may have but the Kentucky governor was not friendly to visitors from red states and we didn't want any issues. My wife and daughter snuck in and snuck out.

May God bring peace and comfort is my prayer

Really sorry Austin.

Well, I'm not driving out to SE KY/East TN. Viewing is tomorrow and funeral Thursday. Too doggone soon. I'd stress out driving. Hate missing the service, but I'll visit everybody in two months.

Anyway, just returned from Rudy's BBQ. 1/2 lb brisket, 1/4 lb moist brisket, 1/2 lb turkey, 2 pcs sausage, pint cole slaw, pint potato salad, pint cream corn, two banana puddings, two sweet teas + onions, pickles, sauce, 14 slices white bread = $50. Expensive. Tasty. Enough leftovers for tomorrow evening.

Da brudder weighs 500 pounds. Mercy... 😁

Fishing report: Hooked 5 landed four but, none were worth writing home about. The fish stopped biting after the explosions started. Fishing at Rattler where it is about 1000 meters or more from the grenade range. Have a video but it is too large to post here.

Have them throw one into the pond. Then you can dip net them out.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 78°F and partly cloudy. Possibility for showers. Our high today should reach 92°F. No rain from Hurricane Sally expected. Florida panhandle and Mobile area getting hammered. Cold front moves in tomorrow bringing us down into the 60s for lows and 80s for highs.

Happy Hump Day.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

Good morning from my house to yours,

Our weather is pretty much the same as yesterday. We are at 74° and expect afternoon showers. Our high will be 86°. We have 6 mph wind so nothing from Sister Sally.

Our local Forest Fire Fighters have left for California to assist out there. Maybe they will have time to teach a little forest management to those egg heads. If they do not handle their forest the way we do down South it will never change for them. Cut down your dead trees and underbrush. Understand how to isolate a fire in the early stages and just be smart. We have thousand and thousands of acres of forest and never experience anything like California. We have regular controlled burns that bring back fresh growth, nice and green and not as flammable. I know California is a desert and was never created to house 40 million humans but it can do better.

Trust all have a nice day
