It is a cool 62.8°F but still 84% humidity.

Sorry for you loss Austin.

Happy Humpday D-Leaguers.

On forest management in California: I wish that they would control it. The haze has reached Kentucky. Along with controlled burns etc, why don't they get a bunch of goats and let them roam the rough parts and eat the hell out of the leaves near the ground. Start a new meat and milk industry. Goat ain't bad meat.

Well the expert weather forecasters blew it again. The past few days we have all been talking about Sally hitting New Orleans and what happens. It slams into Pensacola, FL and Gulf Shores, AL.

Bottom line Mother Nature does what Mother Nature wants to do. We can come up model after model but when the time comes, nature seldom follows man's models. This is a dangerous storm because of the amount of rain. Flooding is the worst part of a hurricane. The professional photographers focus on the wind or structural damage but anyone who has been through a hurricane knows to watch out for the rising water. It will kill you and a storm surge will flatten your house.

Prayers for those in Sally's path.

Lake Lanier is a very large lake NE of Atlanta. Corp of Engineer. The dam is very steep (as most dams are) and they had grass on part of it. They had a herd of goats that roamed it. Kept the growth down to where it looked like a golf course.

Right below that dam where the Chattahoochee River starts up again is some of the best trout fly fishing in the State of Georgia. It was a favorite spot of Junior Samples, Cummings most famous native son.

The dam's construction can be seen in the opening scene of Deliverance

True, but if you're fishing there you better run when you hear the horn/siren.

Remember when I first moved to Atlanta, my first time to Cumming it was a small, mountain town (late 70s).
Gas station was still there where Junior used to tell his tall tales. Don't know if it's still there or not.

wildcatdon should know. My wife worked at Lanier Tech and his nephew came in for a job interview for the janitor. He looked just like Junior including the bib overalls. They had to hire him on the spot.

Good morning D, we are having some fantastic weather here in the Berg!!! Cool temps 60, this morning, humidity is not bad but the dew point is low!!

I saw Yukon gold taters mentioned, I fix them by putting holes just in the top, put butter on the top of the tater, then wrapping it up with the butter on top and when it done, no need to add anymore butter to it. They are the best!!

Well tomorrow is the day, heading to Arkansas for our trout fishing trip, with a stop at Lambert's for an early lunch, then on to Norfork!!! I tested out my fishing gear yesterday, using a ultra-lite rod and reel with 4lb test line. I caught a 4lb Channel Cat, took me a bit to get him in, but it was a good battle!!!! I have been looking forward to going back every since I left there last year! I still hope GOD gives me a few more years to take this trip!!! I hope I get the slam this year, I caught a Brown, Rainbow and a Cutthroat last year, but no Brook Trout. I did catch a Golden Trout, it was the first one anybody in our group had ever caught, what a beautiful Trout!! Just praying for safe travels!!!

I hope the D has a great day, as always prayers for the D!!!!

USFS management is a mess having been neglected for a 100 years and needs to implement it's multiple use sustained yield management mandate. This should include development of a secondary forest product industry to remove the woody growth prior to prescribed burning to restore/maintain ecosystem health. A modified shelterwood system with sustained periodic (20yr) harvests in 120 year rotation (80%) without the final removal cut removing of old growth components with selected stringers of trees with interlocking canopies in an extended 240(?)yr rotation. The hardest thing I ever tried to do was explain forest ecosystem vegetative succession health & stream dynamics to foresters and biologists who far to often are merely government cows grazing at the public trough.

My brother lives in the Florida Panhandle and he told me a section of Three Mile Bridge is damaged. A barge apparently slammed into it. This little Cat II storm can do as much damage as a Cat 5 with all of the rain and rising water. I have been across this bridge many times and never thought I would see this.
Hunker down and stay safe.

Stay safe Cord, and good luck with the fishing. Great weather here, in suburban Ashland. Calls for sunny skies and mid to upper 70's for most of the next couple of weeks. It will get a little warmer, but just really nice weather. Going to get oui and enjoy it before old man winter comes calling. It will be before we realize it. Everyone have a blessed evening.

Thanks Rooster, I live a long way from Pensacola and my brother is safe and out of harms way. We got a little rain, nothing out of the ordinary and not enough wind to knock out fronds from my palm trees.

Actually I would welcome some high winds to clear out the trees. It would save me from having to trim them or hire it out. I have 35 palm trees and if I get someone to do it it costs about $15 per tree. That is not a bad price considering the height of the trees. You have to use a 40 foot ladder to reach them. My wife says my 40 foot ladder climbing days are over and I agree with her. I have had some very close calls with extension ladders in my life but never got hurt bad. No broken bones. I am not going to press my luck now.

Turned on the local TV channel and they are giving good coverage to Hurricane Sally. Lots of water.

I know most of the D League have had interesting careers and ran into a few things that stand out and you will remember forever. When I was a young man, just out of the Army I took a job working for a large insurance company handling automobile casualty claims.

One day I got a new loss involving our insured who had been rear ended on Dale Mabry Blvd in Tampa, FL. His car was a total loss and he got shook up pretty good. I interviewed him and he said the car that hit him was owned by a Santo Trafficante, Jr. Santo, Jr. was a mafia crime boss in Tampa and he had a ruthless reputation. I asked him if Trafficante was driving and said he really didn't know because he didn't know what he looked like. He called the police and the officer "took down a report". An ambulance was called and he was taken to Tampa General Hospital to get checked out.

So my next move was to go to the Tampa PD and get an accident report. These are prepared by the investigating officers. I drove down there and was advised the accident did not happen. Not that the report was not ready but "it did not happen son". I said my insured has a total loss to his car and hospital bills and the reply was "the accident did not happen son"

Well now what. My insured was mad as a hornet and went to see a lawyer. The lawyer told him to back off and forget it. My supervisor told me to keep digging and to keep my file open. So I canvassed the scene and had a half dozen people tell me they witnessed the accident. An accident that did not happen, did happen.

But the Good Lord was watching out for both of us. About two weeks later the insured received cash in an overnight (Fed Ex) type envelope. It contained cash for the car and a couple of thousand for the minor medical bills with a note "have a nice life".

If you are into the mobs read a little about The Trafficante Family of Tampa. They controlled the city with an iron fist. Tampa has always been a mob city and few people know it outside of the area.

Just saw where the panhandle and surrounding areas had +20" of rain. Hope you and your family are staying safe.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 79°F, partly cloudy and humid. There's a cold front due in which should bring our temperatures down a bit along with precious rain. Expecting 86°F for today's high. In fact, our daily highs should average in the 80s over the next 7 days. Love it.

Today marks 6 months that I've been working from home. Can't say I miss going into the office every day.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

Morning Legionaires: Hope the morning finds all healthy, wealthy, and wise. I will be going out again today for some fresh air and fresh fish. Wife's mother and brother are vegetarians and coming over this weekend (BIL's birthday) so, I need to get dinner caught.

Good morning D League

Coffee is extra good this morning, so was the sausage and eggs. The local weather is 74° at the present and we will hit 85° for today's high. Our winds will range between 15 and 25 mph throughout the day and there is a 50% chance of some rain. We will also get plenty of sunshine during the day. It is that time of year.

Good luck warrrior-cat versus the large mouth bass. Hope you bring home a mess of fish and don't forget to pick up some celery stalks for the MIL.

Time for another cup of coffee.

Hello Gents/ Ladies. My first venture into this thread. Been told this is the place to be.
A special welcome to you Cawood86. We are grateful you stopped by and want you to feel at home and part of the family. Folks who post on the D are some of the best folks on earth and when you visit with them you will not go home hungry. The D League knows how to cook and what to cook.
