D-League

Good morning from ATX. Currently 79°F, partly cloudy and humid. There's a cold front due in which should bring our temperatures down a bit along with precious rain. Expecting 86°F for today's high. In fact, our daily highs should average in the 80s over the next 7 days. Love it.

Today marks 6 months that I've been working from home. Can't say I miss going into the office every day.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

Hello Gents/ Ladies. My first venture into this thread. Been told this is the place to be.

It is. You heard correctly, and you are most welcome here. Lot's of fellowship, shared experiences, swapped recipes, information on fishing lures, weather updates from around the country, and prayers for the hurting and afflicted. If you come in friendship, you will not find a better bunch of people. Plus, we all love the Cats.

Welcome Cawood86. The D-League are in a League of our own.

It is a nice 67.5°F on its way to 83°. Fall is to get here this weekend.

The yard needs mowing. Any volunteers?

Bert, I wished I lived closer, because I would gladly do it. I have a 27 hp, commercial Cub, and one of my escapes is to put on my radio headphones, and cut grass. Mine takes about 2 1/2 hours to cut, but unless it is 95 degrees, I actually enjoy it. As a matter of fact, I am going to cut mine today, also.

[laughing]

Mowed ours last weekend. Now I must get rid of some pesky weeds.
Mine is now mowed. When it rains I can not go longer than 5 days or it is massive. I cut back and mowed over the peonies as they were already drying up for the winter.

On weeds, I have brown spots in my yard when I am killing the burmuda that came back from last years killing and Falcon IV seeding. Burmuda is hard stuff to kill.

Don't believe the fishing lure stuff. I am the only person here with the best lure for fish. Dynamite. It works even when the fish are full.

Thanks Ben. I understand the job of mowing as I love mowing grass. I have a cub cadet and I think it is 18 or 19 hp tractor. I don't like the zero turn, plus I only mow a half acre. But it is my half acre!

The Indians had a master plan to catch fish for the village. They built fish traps across their rivers and trapped fish by the thousands. A good sharp spear and dinner is served

Hello all,

I have a pesky dog you can get rid of for me. (My youngest daughters dog that she doesn't have time for now with her child and will not let me give it away.) It causes me too much work that I never signed on for. Somethings got to give. (Yeah, i thought of it but...)

Nice, I think you once mentioned you lived in the Charleston area out near the island? (It's been a while.)

Well here it is folks, the fishing report. Went to a pond that I tried many years ago and did not do well then. Went several times and only caught a couple. Decided to try it again today since others had been saying it has gotten better plus, my go to's were locked down for hunting. It started a little slow until I found a sweet spot. Caught a couple in one area early on in about an hour and a half of fishing. Then, switched to the sweet spot and that's when they hit. It was just about a hit every 4th or 5th cast. Had many hits, hooked 11 and landed 9. Kept 5 for my in laws (vegetarians) dinner on Saturday. The kept 5 are below:

And oh yeah Bert. 7 1/8th" stickworms have done wonders for me.

I actually know a guy who used to take dry ice in a cooler, and put it in a mason jar. He would then duct tape a rock to it, and toss it in the water. Once the dry ice begins to evaporate, it blows up the jar, and the concussion stuns the fish. He thin dips out the ones he wants. A real sportsman.

Mine is a zero turn, with a steering wheel, since I have some hilly areas. You have your lawn looking nice. 👍

Yeah, I'd put some salad dressing on those veggies....

A true fisherman.:)

Yeah, I don't understand why they will eat fish because to me it too is a form of meat but, there are several types of vegetarians (7 I think, not sure) but some allow eating fish.
As an omnivore you are like a clumper. Much like the bear, whatever is in greatest abundance will work. Myself, I too, am fine with most any digestible carbon-based life form preferring the second or third trophic levels. Now the in-laws may be persnickety splitters. In this case you can be PC to politely refer to them as Pescatarians.

No, I think their baptist. [winking]

You do and you clean it up....

Lots of big words there about the subject of grub. I looked a few of them up and feel smarter all of a sudden.

My eating habits are simple and were given to me in childhood. Mama and daddy insisted if I was served something to eat, I eat it. Daddy would say if someone is kind enough to cook something they raised with the sweat of their brow and serve it to you eat it. And if you don't eat it will be served to you the next day or the day after until you get hungry enough to eat it. And you will get hungry son, I promise you that.

Daddy didn't mess around with a picky eater. I guess growing up in the Depression would cause a man to appreciate good food

Good lessons there. I see you were privileged with knowing the truth and blessings of discipline and respect. I believe one of my next was like "If you see family toiling in the field, you don't need an invitation." Another was "If you don't work, you don't eat and have nothing to share".

Pretty much the same here. Only of what your Dad said mine was more 'there are starving kids in India'.
But like yours, mine was pretty much the same in that you ate what was put in your plate and you didn't leave the table until you did. Can remember plenty of breakfasts where I would slowly gag down a bowl of oatmeal.
Now I love the stuff. Go figure.
Same with my parents and the Depression. Although my Grandpa was pretty well off, my Dad still learned the value of a dollar due to all that was around them. My Dad (gone many years now) would often talk about how many times a stranger or two would come to the back door and Grandpa would never turn them away and would ask them in and feed them.
