This mail stuff that is going on, when I was helping my friend with the roof Wednesday, he was telling me about a book he ordered for his wife. He started reading the shipping route for the book, which took 2 weeks to get from Las Vegas to Greenville, Ky. It started in Vegas went to Colorado, then to Illinois, back to Colorado, back to Illinois, to Ohio, to Nashville, then back and forth to Ohio and Nashville 3 more times, then from Nashville to his home town of Greenville, then back to Nashville. One more trip to Ohio, back to Nashville and finally to Greenville where it set for 2 days, then it was delivered. So we know mail is delivered on time!!!

I have a recipe I would like to share with the D, you may already fix pork chops this way, this was my mom's! I use chops with the bone in.

1- In a bowl or container, put all purpose flour and season it the way you want, I Angelo's

2- Coat pork chops completely with the flour

3- In a hot cast iron skillet with butter fry the chops until brown, then place them in a baking dish, I just use a cake pan.

4- While skillet is hot, pour plenty of water in the skillet getting all the flour and drippings stirred up good, then pour all of that into the pan with the chops.

5- Cover the pan with foil, sealing it good and tight, then bake at 300 for a couple hours. These will melt in your mouth tender!!!!

Be sure and fix you some biscuits, because the gravy is delicious!!!!

Just about the way I make baked steak. Sometimes I use Kitchen Bouquet for my gravy, as well.

My daughter waited a week and a half on a package to get here from Indianapolis. She followed it on tracking like your friend did and it would do the same exact thing. It even passed by our exit from Lexington to Charleston, WVa.

Good morning from ATX. We received some precious, cooling, beautiful rain earlier this morning. Current temperature is 69°F and cloudy. Our high today should reach 100°F.

After a morning walk, I'm heading to Walmart for a few things. Working on that bicycle I found later. Hope it sells for $25 or so.

Wishing all our fellow D-League members continued happiness and good health.

Just watched Deliverance for the 4th or 5th time. I lived years in that part of the country and knew plenty "Mountain Men". I never, EVER, heard anything even remotely resembling that rape scene between Ned Beatty and that so-called "mountain man". All them old boys I knew, and still know, wanted nothing but women.
When I lived in Cumming, GA a bunch of us would go up to Dillard, GA, rent a cabin and run the river. We would get in Friday afternoon, eat at the Dillard House, and get up early to go rafting down the Chattooga River where the movie was filmed. We started in South Carolina and ended up in Georgia. The river guides were coeds from nearby Clemson University and UGA. They would point areas of interest from the movie, for example: "there is where the hand came out of the water", "there is where Ned Beatty got his" "there is the bridge where the banjo picker did his scene".

Interesting things we learned about the movie. The opening scene is the actual footage of Buford Dam being built for Lake Lanier. i.e 1956. The scene at the end of the film showed an old lady at the head of the table as the characters were being fed. The lady was Mrs.Dillard whose family owned the Dillard House.

Oh and I too can say that living in the North Georgia Mts for over 20 years I never heard of or met a Mountain Man who wanted anything to do with raping another man. That was a typical stereotype used by Hollywood and does not reflect the culture of the Appalachia Mountains I know. A great film.

Oh and for the banjo picker. He was a local from Rabun County, GA and as of about 10 years ago you could find him working at Walmart. That is where I met him during a Bluegrass jam session in their parking lot.

Good morning from Down Yonder.

We have our eyes on the Gulf this morning and will track a couple of tropical storms. Laura and Marco are taking similar paths and there is talk of them merging as they become hurricanes out in the Gulf. That would be a rare occurence. It looks like Laura may head to Texas or Lousiana or if it makes a hard right, Mississippi. Marco is on track for Texas. But it is early so the models may be changed as things develop.

We have 74° and it is sunny but we have a greater than 50% chance of rain this afternoon. Our high today will be 85°.

Folks around here are counting down for football to start. The local talk shows are begging for football and not political statements from the players and coaches. People seem to be getting sick of that.

Morning folks. It is 70.5°F and raining. I was planning on mowing yesterday, but the rain started and has not stopped yet. We are up to 1.21" so far. I doubt that I will mow today and maybe not tomorrow. If that is the case I will need to roll hay.

Had company last night, the same two as every Friday night. We talk or watch a movie and drink a lot of coffee. Last night the talk was flowing too good to insert a movie. The subject was based on high school and how many of us are dead! Old folks think about things like that.

The Derby is September 5. That is strange. Football to follow.

  • Good. Afternoon, D-Leagueanites and Lurkers.
  • Rain last night. Everything was wet when I first got out this morning. A little work with the towels fixed it.
  • Our yard looks like a nice fairway.
  • Talked to FCC the other day. He still does not have his money from GoFundMe. His ex is giving him a hard time. He still has not seen his children. Feel very sorry for him.
  • Talked to #3. He has not started Ranger School yet. He has been in Quarentine for 2 weeks. He begins the training Monday, then Dahlonega, then Florida, ....... He's not worried about it.
  • Hungry to see the GGSon.
  • All you old folks take care.
  • Rave on!!!

Well, not having much luck lately. Darn that Covid-19. Most of the bass are tele biting. Today's score Warrior-cat 1----Largemouth Bass 1. The one I caught was barely bigger than a bluegill. My lure was big so I was surprised at the strike.

Come on November so we can get the election over with and this Covid scare gets swept under the rug like everything else.
