D-League

I have to have both hips replaced.

It is already 89.6°F on our way to possibly 95°F. Humidity is down to 35% but it is HOT.

The Cats suck at football.

I have to have both hips replaced. Yuk. I am awaiting the verdict on when the first one will happen.

Holy crap, Bert. I'm sorry to hear that. I'll be coming back up that way end of November. Hope you're better before then.

Good morning D-League.

I guess i can confess that the football losses never really hit me nearly as hard as the basketball losses. I started following the Cats —at least my earliest memories — in 1966. My dad and uncles were all good to very good basketball players from high schools too small for football. They were fanatics about Rupp’s Runts. The Cats football team was never very good and i have few memories of watching them play.

I feel for you D-Leaguers who suffered through last night. I feel that way after a hoops loss.

I got up early with a clear head and shuffled through a six mile run in spectacular weather, thoughts of Big Blue Madness in my head. ,

I am the same way. I want UK to win in every sport, including baseball, softball, golf, etc., but I live and die with the basketball team. I think part of it is that UK has been bad in football for most of my life, and I really don't have too high expectations. With basketball, they have always been a standard of excellencee

Hate that for you, Bert, but you will be glad you did, once it is over. Hips are way easier than knees, and I have had both of mine replaced. Now, I go to the ortho guy on the 11th to see about having my left hip replaced. The way I look at it, the darned thing hurts so badly, that whatever the discomfort is associated with the surgery, it will be worth it.

As a UK sports fan, I agree . . . Make sure your mechanic is well certified. When I got my TKR I asked my cranky old jewish Dr. who was going to do his.
Love that Dr. & my knee replacement.

I suppose this leaves me with something to look forward to in life. I am 76 and no joints replaced. So far I can move by myself and maybe the good Lord will take me home before I need this. But as they say if a man lives long enough he will have prostate trouble and I guess sore joints as well

I am still smarting over the game last night. I go out to eat with friends and family after church. We had a Gator fan, my cousin and a Georgia fan and an Auburn fan at our table. All were very nice to me and felt for UK, especially the Gator fan. He said when they played us we were a solid team. Where I live you will find very few basketball fans. Football rules here so this may be why I want so bad to be good in football. Not just good every 20 years but be consistent. I had hopes this would be the year we could have back to back double digit win seasons... But that is now out of the window.

We have a couple of weeks to get the ship back on course and the coaches need to step up and earn those million dollar salaries.

One of the most famous catches in MLB history happened 65 years ago today.

An iconic moment in MLB history. That fly ball would be deep enough to easily be a homerun in most of today's ball parks.

On a side, but related MLB note, our local Atlanta Braves coverage recently mentioned an interesting stat about Henry Aaron, who was a peer of the great Willie Mays. They mentioned that Hank Aaron, being 3rd all time in hits, even if he had never hit one single homerun.....he would still have well over 3000 hits.

Here is another World Series catch that gets little recognition today and it literally saved a Prefect Game for Don Larsen in 1956. Few centerfielders could have caught up to the ball but Mantle was at his peak then and made the catch. Centerfield was 457 to home plate.
I love Mickey Mantle! He could do everything a ballplayer needed to do; he could hit, hit for power, a great fielder, strong arm, and a really fast base runner when he had the opportunity to run. It’s a shame that his life was so out of control . He had a very solid career, but still he leaves me wondering what could have been had he remained injury free and not had all of his personal issues.

We spent countless hours as kids in the backyard trying to recreate that catch.
Willie had the "basket catch" and you are right we tried to imitate it. Another player who died much to young was Roberto Clemente and he caught the ball similar to Willie. He also had an arm like a canon. Died in a plane crash.

He and Pete were the two best switch hitters of all time.

Good Blue Monday D League

Currently 70° with a high nearing 88°. Clear skies and no rain in the forecast. The radio man is saying this is the time of year to prune bushes and trees. Now I have something to add to my "to do list". Seems like listening to the radio justs makes me work.

The coffee is extra good this blue Monday and I am pouring another cup. I sure hope our football team can figure out what to do the rest of this year during this week off. We have got to turn this around.

hey D-League, what's going on this morning? Me? I'm just sitting here getting ready to into a meeting, drinking some black coffee.

Another hot one today and through this week, highs forecasted to be 93-96. Crazy hot for going into October. I'm enjoying these baseball postings from you all; fun to look back on the all time greats and to talk about today's stars who are headed for Hall of Fame careers.

I also saw that Clemente had 4 times led the league in batting and had several seasons with over 200 hits.
Morning D-League. Trying to make the most of my birthday falling on Monday this year.

My dad loved Clemente, which was good because dad was up to go to Crosley anytime one of his favorites came through -- Aaron, Mays, Clemente.

Just typing this about Reds and Pirates brought back a great memory -- my eighth birthday, 9/30 1964.

Reds versus Pirates at Crosley Field.

Jim Maloney versus Bob Veale. Game went something like 17 scoreless innings. My uncle, who was a big overgrown kid in those days muscled the little kids out of the way and got TWO foul balls during BP down the left field line -- and gave them to me as a birthday gift. I was such a nerd kid as the game went well past midnight all I could worry about was that I might miss school. LOL. I think the Pirates won on a squeeze bunt.

It's funny how clear that day 55 years ago is to me, but if someone asked me about any day in the past ten years I couldn't conjure anything like that level of memory.
