D-League

  • Good Afternoon, All Wildcats.
  • 88º in Johns Creek. Hazy. Barely VFR if you don't fly too high. Watch it.
  • My physical was A-OK yesterday. 220 pounds, BP 138/74, Emory was crowded.
  • Gotta roll.
  • Be safe. Watch it out there.
  • The folks putting down our country need to spend about a year living in a cow-shit shack in Africa. They would kiss the first ground they could find in the USA.
  • As you were.
  • Carry on.

My A1c was high at 6.1 and he was not too happy about that. Wants it below 5.7 so he told me to quit eating white rice, potatoes and grits. Gonna be hard. I told him I would try but don't even think about telling to stop eating red meat and drinking caffeine coffee or ice tea. The day I get that word is the day I die.

Everything else turned out OK but I do need to drop a few pounds.
Okay, Sawnee Cat, I can tell you how to cheat.

Take metformin. My a1c is 3.9. Use splenda as a substitute. Don't eat grits except 1 day a week. Reduce your carbs. Eat all the red meat you desire.

If you need more details ask Ymmot. He is smarter than me.

Thanks Bert, my next visit is in 6 mos. and I hope to have it well below what it is today by then. He did give me a prescription for metformin. I am on my way. Rest of all labs are all good as is blood pressure. Just need to watch my sweet tooth and drop a few lbs. .

For those of you who don't visit the other forums, it appears UKGrad93 and his daughter need our prayers and good wishes more than ever. Since he has posted this himself on rafters I suppose he doesn't mind me sharing it here: Things are not looking hopeful at all for his daughter.

He posted this: "We are near the end. I’d appreciate continued prayers as she transitions from this world to the next."

Shattering news. Still hoping for a miracle -- or as much peace for the family as possible.

Oh man, this is heart breaking. Losing someone a generation or two above us is one thing. but facing this journey with your child is something I do not want to think about. I had a nephew die in childhood and my father went in to see him one last time. He left and said he would give his life to save that child and he meant it. A grandfather's love. I know all of us feel the same way, we would give our life for our child. May God be with this loving family as they face their darkest day.

That is just awful.

Sending thoughts and prayers to UKGrad93's family. May they find their miracle.

Having lost my grand son, I know the pain. (Well maybe not quite as bad, but it was bad.)

Happy pre- Independence Day from Washington D.C. I’m going to try to get out of work a bit early and make my way over to look at the heavy armor Trump has trucked into town. Haven't climbed on an Abrams M1A2 in a while. It'd be nice to see the new Marine Helicopter being used to ferry presidents about, and the fly-over sounds pretty amazing. Not sure how much I'll be able to take in. I'm way past fighting the crowds on the 4th to go downtown in DC. I did that madness a few times back when my kids were little, and never again.

Mostly I've been enjoying the hand wringing by the liberals where I work over Trump's parade plans. You'd think he planned to turn the tanks on Congress...Hey, now there's an idea...
The M1A2 was my training tank in my Armor training at Knox. My MOS is Armor. It was a lot of fun to drive those big boys. We would fire at night out on the tank range and our wives would drive out and set up a picnic lunch and watch. It would be like a 4th of July fireworks display with the tracer rounds flying through the air. Fun times.

We did some training at Knox one year, and after seeing an Abrams up close, it made me rethink my decision to become a Combat Engineer.

My MOS is 13B (Artillery) and we had M109's and M110A1's howitzers that were self propelled that were fun to drive as well. Drove an M60 tank once and is was fun as well.

During the Gulf War, after an all day barrage of fire from us and many other artillery units in to a pass that had the Iraqi Republican Guard bottled up by US tanks they, (our Tank units) waited until night to engage their tanks. We stopped firing on them to watch our tanks fight theirs. I sat on the deck plate of my M110A1 howitzer to watch the battle. There would be many rounds going into the pass from our tanks (it was constant) and an occasional round coming out from them. It was over quick as we had been pounding them all day and had destroyed much of their units and armor. All we could really see was the light from the rounds going in and coming out but, it was a sight to see. Here is the M548 ammo Carrier and an M110A1 Howitzer.. The round fired from the M110A1 weighed 208lbs.

Good morning and Happy 4th of July

BBN ours hearts are heavy this morning with the news of the passing of Jared Lorenzen and sorrow of the family of UKGread93. Our prayers are with all.

We are expecting a typical "Hotter than the 4th of July". High expected of 92º and it iis currently checking in at 74º. Lots of sunshine and the beaches will be crowded. I will turn it over to them today and go in a different direction. Our local "machine gun" range will have an open house demonstration so I might drop by and watch a machine gun in action. You don't get to see that everyday.

Well today I will fly the colors and my colors on the 4th are the Betsy Ross. I don't care if Nike hates it or disrespects it and the next time I worry about Kapernick will be the first time. I am proud of our Founding Fathers. I am proud they had wisdom and God's grace to create a free nation. No amount of criticism or mockery will ever turn me on those brave men who signed our Declaration of Independence. They put their lives in danger, put their fortunes on the line and their faith in the Almighty that we, their sons and daughters may be free. This flag will fly in front of my house as I celebrate and honor my ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War. They were the original Rebels. God Bless America.

Nike and Kapernick may hate our Founding Fathers but I honor them and in the Spirit of July 4th I honor my 4th g-grandfather, John Alderman who moved to North Carolina from New Jersey shortly after birth and fought for the North Carolina Militia against the British and King Edward's crown. If there weren't for men like him we would not be free. Thank you sir and we will be eternally grateful for your service to your "new country".

My father always told me we did own much except our history. Here are the vets of Revolutionary War with a direct lineage to either Sherry or me:

Byrd Prewitt (1753-1833) (Sherry’s 5th Great Grandfather on her mother’s side of the family) served in the Virginia militia during the Revolutionary War. He was born in Bedford, Virginia; died 1833 in Jessamine Co., KY.

Jacob Falconberry, born in Wadesboro, Anson, NC and died in Decatur, IN 2-14-1757 to 11-2-1844 (Bert’s 5th great-grandfather) Virginia Militia Revolutionary War.

Benjamin Aimsley Higginbotham (Abt 1723-1791) was born in Goochland, VA and died in Elbert, GA (Bert’s 4th great-grandfather) He served in the Revolutionary war in Captain William Tucker’s Company of the Amherst County Virginia Militia.

Benjamin Higginbotham Jr (1757-1810) was born Amherst, VA and died in Elbert County, GA. He served in the Revolutionary war in Virginia and North Carolina. (Bert’s 3th great-grandfather)

Larkin Gatewood (1736-1805) was born in King Queen County Virginia and died in Elbert County, Georgia. He served in the Revolutionary war in Virginia as a Sergeant in the Militia. (Bert’s 4th great-grandfather)

John Elmore (1758-1836) born in Lunenburg, VA and died in Barren County, KY. He served in the North Carolina Militia in the Revolutionary War. (Bert’s 4th great-grandfather)

William Davis born in Virginia 1753 and buried 1848) in Maynards Cove, Jackson, AL (Bert’s 5th great-grandfather) Served as a private in the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War.

William Marshall born 1750 at Lyons Creek, Calvert, MD and died 1822 at Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle, VA. (Bert’s 4th great-grandfather) private in Virginia Line in the Revolutionary War.

Happy 4th!!! My flag is flying and I'm proudly wearing my USA t-shirt.

A few years back the neighborhood stopped putting small flags in everyone's yard for the 4th. Too bad because it was the patriotic thing to do. I can almost guarantee someone complained so that ended the tradition. Bastards!

These men are the reason you and I are free. Without them we would never have built this great country. We may and would have eventually broke away from the British but our nation would not have had the influence of many of our Founding Fathers as many were aging at the time of the Revolution.

Bert are you a member of the Sons of The American Revolution? It is a fine organization and we need good people in it. I was a charter member of a camp in Cumming, Georgia and transferred my membership to Florida when I came back home. Great people.
