D-League

It has been over 10 years since I had thanksgiving dinner with my mother but the memories are ever present. My mother was very creative and an excellent seamstress. She loved making holiday spirit clothing for me and to my embarrassment sending me off to school. When I was in the first grade she dressed me up as a "pilgrim" and sent me off to school with a few of my buddies. I felt like crawling into a hole. But this is what mother's did in 1949.

My mother passed in 2012 but I remember one very important Thanksgiving dinner more than others. While deployed in the gulf awaiting the ground war in Saudi, we (our unit) had Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings however, making sure my troops and the others ate first, the only thing left over when I got to the field mess hall was hamburgers and hot dogs. The same happened with Christmas dinner and New Years. After the war was over, we returned in April 1991 to Ft. Sill OK. and were granted a few weeks leave. Coming back to Kentucky was a surprise for me. My mother had remembered my letters of missing my favorite Holiday meal and had it prepared when I got home with a lot of family members in attendance. The best ever no matter the time of year, I miss her.

Typing this was hard....tears followed.

I understand and when God created mothers it was well done. You life changes forever once you lose a parent, especially a mother. This is the time of year I miss mine the most and I miss her every day.

  • Good Wednesday Morning, D-League
  • The thermometer outside says it is 57º and looking up at the sky I sees clear skies. I expect a sunny sky and the about the same as yesterday in the mid 70's.
  • On my second cup of coffee and it is especially good.
  • Busy day for the wife, making sure all is ready for Thanksgiving dinner. Lots of baking and last minute trips to Publix for this or that.
  • The Mermaid Show at Weeki Wachee is closing for a few months as they install a new underwater stage.
  • The Cats have an opportunity to smash UL this weekend. I hope Gran has the offense ready and up to the challenge.
  • Have a great day all

Good morning from Shawanee, TN. Currently a crisp and clear 28°F. We should warm to 50°F or so.

Happy Turkey Eve. Happy Hump Day. Plan on hiking over to 90 years-young former mother in-law's place, drink some coffee and visiting granddaughter.

Cats and Eagles at 1 PM. Gonna watch it. No beer drinking until tonight.

I'll check back later. Y'all behave.

Good morning. I woke up early today. More specifically, my wife woke me up early today. Out of a dead sleep she wanted to know if it was ok for her to drive her car to work with 25 lbs of air in a rear tire. I said yes. If everything goes according to plan today that will be the most difficult question I face.

Can't say what time I'll get started Sunday. Depends on the football game Saturday night.

So now it's all Cal's fault that Wiseman chose to stay where he lives and play in front of friends and family. He chose to play for Penny, NBA star and coach of his AAU team. That's Cal's fault. It's amazing that some of our fans can find their way out of bed to type this drivel on my interweb.

We've seen the texts, we know for a fact that Zion was asking Kansas for 150K for his services for one year. Then he suddenly chooses Duke. Hmmm...and guess what? That's Cal's fault too.

Got a friend coming over today and the plan was to go out to the shop and drink beer and listen to tunes while we clean the place up a little. I forgot all about the game being at 1300. Now we're going to have to stay in my comfortable living room and drink beer while watching the game. It's a sacrifice, but I'm willing to make it.

Happy day before Thanksgiving. I am wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving a little early because tomorrow I will probably not be near a computer. The picture below was taken on Thanksgiving Day 1949. Mom made my little pilgrim costume out of black scraps of cloth and cardboard. The hat and buckles were cardboard and buckles were wrapped with aluminum foil. The white trim was a cloth she had on the coffee table. We didn't have much money in those days but we sure had fun. To be honest I didn't want to smile for that picture because my school friends had been teasing me about being a Pilgrim and living on a wooden boat. But I survived.

When I was that age there is no way, not none, that my mother would have let me hold a turkey that she had cooked and intended on feeding to people. She would have said something like "why don't I just take it and roll it around in the dirt myself?"

Hello all, Beautiful day here in sunny SWFL. High of 80 and a gentle breeze.

Have to take the wife to the airport today, she's going back to Kentucky for Thanksgiving, this guy isn't going. Me and the dog will hold down the fort while watching BB and FB all weekend

I'm going to eat tomorrow with friends and will watch some ball games with them for a bit. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving! will check in later

Been listening to the Jones show and pregame. I'm ready for basketball action now. I do not want to hear Rex talk about anything. Nothing. I especially don't require his insight into the psyche of an 18 year old. I was an 18 year old just as long as he was.

Tom Payne was paroled yesterday from prison, again. Why don't we bring him in to do commentary and tell us the finer points of playing college basketball in 2018.

Don't wanna be the fifth wheel...but just out of curiosity how far a drive from Evansville is it?

Guess I'll watch the game while I'm working...if I get the opportunity of course.

HaHa, you won't be the fifth wheel, that's Bert's job.

Speaking of fifth wheels...yesterday on my way to get Dad I saw my nephew's car on the side of the road with a flat tire. I stopped to see if he was in the car and noticed the tire that was flat was leaned up against the car with the naked wheel setting on the ground. The flat tire was the emergency spare and it was worn down to the threads. Totally bald.

He and his father pulled up while I was there. I didn't stick around long because I did really good not telling them what I thought about the situation, but I'm only human. His father was laughing about the worn out spare and everything was like normal procedure for those two. Blows my mind. Too bad BIL didn't have a father like I have. Too bad his son doesn't either.

Did not listen to Jones or pre-game but I am ready. I have my corn chips and salsa and a few other snacks laid out. My wife is at Publix so I have the house to myself. I can crank up the sound and rattle the windows. Life is good

Went out with Dad today. Last Tuesday he dropped his lower denture and broke it in half. We were at VA on Wednesday and I took it around to dental and they repaired it while we went to his appointment. Called me yesterday and he had broke it again. Took it back there today but the guy who does that stuff is off for the week. I ended up super gluing it together. I guess it worked out because we tested it with a brisket sammich from Arby's and it held together.

I'll send VA an invoice.

Supposed to be around 40° Saturday night for the game with light wind and a small chance of rain. Not too bad. If we're kicking ass at halftime then I'll stay and watch it happen, but if we're up by 3 or 6, then I'm outta there at the half.

Get some of these and attach them to his dentures.Thank me later.
